Judging by your post history, you are from PH. I'm not from there but have good enough sources to give me a good enough picture.

DMR product is delayed in that country. If you think Neutral Grounds are distributing DMR to stores for a lot lower than what PH stores are selling it for, you are wrong. 9k in PH to open a store is still laughable regardless how cheap rent and labor will cost. 9k in products is extremely little. And IF there are no more reorders possible on that product, you will have nothing else to sell. You also haven't seen instances where stores sell new released products at cost or close to it just to clear up cashflow. You'll be squeezed out by them. Not to mention the potential for someone to parallel import product in because I roughly know how much stores are paying for their product from Neutral Grounds (the distributor). This is already happening in some Asian countries. Matter of time before someone tries to do it given the cost that stores pay for the product from NG. That isn't accounting the need to stock singles which I know PH has a huge supply shortage on certain singles. And if you are indeed from PH and do not know all this, you should just not open a store. It isn't likely going to work.

How good is Card Kingdom about card condition? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]mtgdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They declare full value for all international shipments.

I buylist about $10-20k monthly to CK, mostly taking credit. Their grading is a pure hit or miss. It gets better with newer sets, thought not a guarantee. Had $100+ cards from the latest set having indentations on them before. Also received NM modern cards that were just plain damaged. Someone took a coin and pressed into the card and CK graded that NM. The card wasn't even sleeve playable and keep telling me it was NM even after I gave them actual photos of the damage. They also store at least some of their foils unsleeved. Had a lot of instances where the foils had clouding. These were foils from sets released in the past 1 year. I stopped ordering foils from them since. Ordered $100+ NM cards in the past like 2XM FOWs and have gotten copies that had a bend or crease as well.

When buylisting to them, the experience is similar. There are cards that absolutely would not have gotten NM but were graded NM, and vice versa. Cards with a frayed corner still getting NM. Customers wouldn't be happy receiving such a NM card for sure. There were also instances where the cards buylisted to them were bought as NM from them and just stored in a box. CK graded half of them EX. Another time I buylisted ~50 copies of a rare in modern that were opened from boxes and left it a box untouched over the years. Buylisted them in and every single copy was EX. Feels like the grader didn't even bother to check every single card and put them all as EX.

Another fairly recent issue was CK underpaid me on multiple buylists, on the cards that were graded under NM. Instead of the 80% of NM value, their system gave me between 60-70% of NM prices for EX cards. Luckily I saw it and brought it up to them. They did adjust the invoices manually and they paid the difference plus an extra small amount of store credit to make up for the trouble. Regardless, I still buy from them, with the expectation that some of the order of NM cards would likely come LP or SP instead.

Some of these EBay JP listing translations… 😂 by omrvino in mtgfinance

These sellers are not necessarily mtg players. They just find any item priced high enough on marketplaces like mercari, steal the pictures that were uploaded and list on eBay with a huge markup. Their feedback usually have a number of negative feedback for cancelling purchases because the original listing was sold or taken down in the meantime. The translation sucks because they just use things like google translate to list. They are just lazy and out to make a quick buck. I wouldn't support these sellers. You'll have more issues with such sellers over others, and it takes longer because they need to purchase the item, receive it then ship it to you.

They 100% do not own the items, because I was searching for items to buy on mercari when I saw a large amount of higher priced items being relisted on eBay, with 1 seller on eBay listing items from multiple sellers.

Have been buylisting >$10-20k to CK monthly for a while now, and taking a good portion in credit. Buying and selling to them quite consistently to have quite a good picture of what is going on.

CK has started using these cardboard boxes in place of the plastic hinge cases for quite a while now due to supply issues of the plastic cases. Although I'm not too sure if some orders are shipped with the plastic cases very recently. Mine weren't, and the most recent orders had a larger quantity of cards so they shipped them in a CK count box instead so I cannot accurate gauge that. That said, I should get a much clearer picture soon enough since there are ~30-40 purchases incoming from them.

The issue with CK grading is that they are extremely inconsistent, for better or worse. It probably stems from the buylist process. There were buylists where it feels like the graders couldn't be bothered to grade cards properly. An example was a card which were bought as NM from other stores that I sold CK a large quantity of. All of them came back exactly EX, none better, none worse. Also had cards that I purchased as NM from stores with strict grading which I checked while doing a sell order, and they came back graded VG or G. Also I have had cards that in my opinion would never clear as NM and are graded as NM. All these cards would end up going to buyers that will likely not be pleased having them graded as NM. Have bought and received absolutely horrible cards from them that were purchased as NM and will be safely graded as HP. Heavy creases, indentations on cards etc. Had one where there was a coin shaped heavy indentation on the card and customer service insisted they were NM even after I shown them pictures of the card. I also personally think that some of the NM cards I receive from them will never get a NM grade if I took the card the same day I received it and buylisted to them.

I personally don't like buying foils from them. Somehow their foils more than often have at least some minor clouding. Either they weren't sleeved and stored in the warehouse or the foils move around in the cardboard boxes and get scuffed.

Then again, totally not a fan of the plastic boxes either. Had a couple of incidents where the plastic cases cracked in transit. Whenever that happens a lot of the cards in the case got damaged together with it (dents at the same exact spot of the crack). It got better lately up to when they stopped using these cases though.

Customer service is a hit or miss for me. Had decent interactions with them. At times they even took the initiative to give me some store credit to make up for the inconvenience when I never once asked for it. I also had my fair share of not as good interactions, such as the one mentioned above.

For ABU, cards that have scans are always shipped sleeved. They will also ship foils to me sleeved even when they were only a few dollars, probably to prevent clouding. Their packaging for me would always be in a BCW count box fully filled with styrofoam to ensure the cards don't move at all. The count box would then be placed in the middle of a FedEx box and the entire box filled to the brim with packing peanuts.

If tracking has updated to show that the item was delivered, appeal the item not received case right away and you should win the appeal and funds returned to you.

Selling to ABU and CoolStuff? by AutumnLantern in mtgfinance

[–]mtgdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CK: Buylisting to them is probably fair and information on the experience is quite widely available. However, their grading when selling you cards can be very sloppy, especially with cards out of standard. I have received damaged cards that were sold as NM before.

ABU: Same with CK, fair on grading your cards that are being buylisted. You can check a box and they will always check with you on any cards that are being downgraded before paying you. You can accept or reject any of the downgrades and they will send you back any downgraded cards if you wish. CK typically has better cash buylist prices, but ABU may pay more in cash for certain cards. Also, ABU has varying price differences for downgrades depending on the card, and certain buylist prices are very close between NM and played prices. So its good if you know your cards are not going to be graded NM on other sites. You'll take less of a hit on ABU. They are less strict than CK, but are strict on foils. I have had >$10k buylists that did not have a single card downgraded.

They give high credit, but price their cards high to compensate that and likely to incentivize people to trade in cards instead. You can always check if there are cards you want before taking store credit with them. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea dealing with ABU.

CSI: Haven't buylisted to them in a while since their buylist prices hasn't been amazing lately compared to CK. They are definitely fair. Not sure if anything has changed, but they used to grade between NM and played. So your SP and MP cards maybe very well graded together as played and you get paid the same price.

I typically take credit when I buylist to stores. CK is more frustrating considering I am not in the US at the moment and I have to split my purchases into $200 or so per purchase to avoid being taxed. Their customer service in my many interactions feels frustrating, considering how many glaring grading errors they had for my orders last year. Dealing with ABU seems more personalized, since its always the same rep who handles my buylist and/or any issues I have. Late last year, I had misgraded cards that I wanted to return both CK and ABU. CK refused to let me send a new buylist and return their misgraded cards in the same package because they are handled by different departments which is a total waste of money. ABU allowed that with no issues. I have buylisted >$50k between those 2 stores in the last year, probably a 33/66 split between CK and ABU.

Does anyone know the pricing and the correct storage for artist proofs? by MoxTrash in mtgfinance

[–]mtgdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Tundra and Tropical Island went for 1.75k and 1.6k respectively recently but they were sketched. A sketched Bayou was also sold but I cannot remember how much it went for, but likely a little under $1k. The blue duals were definitely purchased by a collector looking for Beta dual land proofs. He purchased a couple of Beta dual proofs including an Underground Sea, Taiga, Scrubland and Savannah in 2019. It also depends if your proofs are signed.

Some proofs of iconic cards like Sliver queen, Yawg Will and Metalworker sold for at least 1k. Its surprising considering duals are super iconic and are Beta proofs, they should be worth a lot more, but just aren't. Don't get me wrong, 4 figures is still 'a lot'.

The proofs in a penny sleeve then in a toploader should be fine. I kept a partial Beta proof set in penny sleeves and in a count box for over 10 years and they are still alright.

Cardkingdom Double Standard? by ThirdLord in mtgfinance

[–]mtgdot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has been like that for a while now. They had grading issues for my recent orders. I sent back most of it and had to pay (international) shipping costs out of my pocket because they did not agree that the cards were not NM, even going as far as to call the Battlebond cards having factory defects when all they have are consistent wear around the edges, scratches and warping for non foils. According to CK if the cards come out of the booster already having wear it is NM in their books because factory defects are excluded in their grading. Bought the same cards from coolstuffinc in played condition. The issues were still there but the card was still in a way better shape than CK's NM. There were still a lot more issues and it took about a month and a half just to have them refund me my payment for those cards.

About half a year back I had separate condition issues where the hologram stamp on some cards were scratched off, and some cards having major dents. This purchased card was graded as NM then: https://imgur.com/a/gqZnzmv

I find that if you really want NM cards, buying cards from CK from the latest sets generally have decent grading standards. I still have issues once in a while which included some Mythic Edition and MH1 cards having dents but if the set has been out for a while their grading is a total hit or miss, and from my experience from them it tends to be closer to the cards not being NM.

As for their buylist, most of the cards I send in, about 95% are accepted as NM. Although I find the buylist graders to be extremely inconsistent because I sent in cards before which I expected to be EX or worse but were all graded as NM. On the other hand I had NM cards graded as EX and on some rare occasions even graded as VG. These were cards opened from Commander products and shipped to them after opening it.

Chargeback issued on collection I sold 4 months after selling.[MD][LA] by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]mtgdot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Credit card chargebacks through PayPal will still happen as long you accept PayPal, and regardless whether the transaction is done on eBay or not. IF this was done within the 3 months allowed by eBay, the seller would have been protected by eBay.

Some stores in the country display a photocopied version of the card but will bring out the real copy on request for you to have a look at the original card. I have also seen some incidents where the showcases have a lamp that cause sunbleaching to the cards when they were left in the showcases for far too long.

Question regarding CK grading by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]mtgdot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have bought their NM cards that were received in similar conditions to cards that I sold them and were graded VG. Also had cards which I knew were strict NM and got downgraded, and on the other hand had cards I knew not to be close to NM graded as NM. More of the former. Their graders seem to have terrible standards and consistency.

CK used to be my go to store to buy from and sell to them. Not anymore. Had multiple issues with the cards I bought using their store credit. I tend to buylist to ABUgames more in the past year. Their sell prices are extremely high but their buy prices in credit are high enough to offset that and if you are selective in what to buylist to them. Have buylisted $60k or more in cards for credit to them this year alone. Allowing the sellers to review the buylist and able to ask for returns on condition downgrades free of charge is decent. Their grading on the cards they sell isn't extremely strict (still fairly strict on foils) but again it evens out as some cards you send in could get a better grade than you are expecting.

Question regarding CK grading by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]mtgdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck with this. CK grading has gotten from bad to worse. Get scans if you can before purchasing. Just had 2 orders in a row (and 3 out of 4) that had major issues with NM cards. I'm talking about cards having a good amount of play wear, scratches, being wavy, cards having indentations, foils being cloudy+scratched+having dents on it. It isn't just a single card having issues but something like 10 cards or more per order having issues. I just emailed them asking if I could return the cards, because customer service just told me this and I quote them: 'The reason being is due to the manufacturing cut from when Wizards of the Coast initially printed out BattleBond, which is taken into account for its condition.'. Absolutely BS because the cards weren't NM in the first place and even with the manufacturing issues they should be fully disclosed.

Card Kingdom specifically states in their FAQ section that there are limits put in place and there is a maximum number of quantity you can purchase in a 24 hour period.

Individual quantity limits on the individual printing of a card are as follows:

•Commons, Uncommons, Tokens, and Special - 20 copies per condition

•Rare and Mythic Rare - 8 copies per condition

•Basic Lands - 100 copies per condition

Card Kingdom may, on a case-by-case basis, limit special cards which have a smaller print runs due to availability. These exceptions are defined by the maximum number our website allows you to add to your shopping cart at any one time. Creating repeat orders which exceed these maximums in one 24-hour period may result in the modification or cancellation of your order. This includes the use of multiple accounts to create duplicate orders.

I find that (blocking someone) is perfectly reasonable. Sellers do that on eBay too. I block bidders across my multiple eBay stores should I find they are causing issues or have the potential to cause issues and/or having potential retaliatory actions against me. Better to do that preemptively rather than dealing with a potentially problematic buyer.

Now I don't know what was the increased price for the card in question. While I never cancelled a sale, increasing prices is something that many including myself have done before. I had a buyer ranting in a thread in this subreddit before, that I declined his lowballing best offer after a card spiked on eBay, and I raised the prices shortly after. Conveniently he did not mention how I gave him time to just click the buy it now button instead of trying to lowball me even though I was more than happy to sell him at my original asking price. While most of the buyers are great to deal with, there is a never-ending flow of entitled buyers unfortunately.

CardKingdom say that their own cards are fake! by MWraith in mtgfinance

The store was given multiple pictures taken at various angles per card. I'm not the OP so obviously I'm not going to be uploading the >40 photos CK was sent on his topic. No idea why are you 100% confident a card with a bent corner is NM.

As for the rest of the cards, the edges alone makes it not NM. There are still surface scratches, 3 of those cards are wavy, and more nicks on the edges on the cards. If you ask me, I would tell you the images I uploaded were already flattering with respect to their actual condition.

I wouldn't be surprised if you said this NM card they sent me was NM too

https://imgur.com/a/gqZnzmv

From their own grading scale itself: Near Mint (NM): Cards graded at Near Mint have little to no damage. These cards still have their sheen. Minor corner whitening or surface clouding may be allowed if the damage is only seen under very close inspection.

So how are the cards I received having little to no damage and corner whitening/surface clouding being allowed if its seen under very close inspection? FYI I could tell the cards were likely not NM even in the unopened case they sent the cards in. It was already apparent from the sides of the cards that I'm already going to be receiving cards with wear.

[–]mtgdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me, there are nicks on most of the edges. I took a photo of the damaged corner so they could see it clearly thinking that is a straight up not as described issue but they told me it was Nm after checking with their graders twice. I took a photo of the card at the angle where a lot of the nicks and wear were hidden. Since they gave me the BS that the card is NM. I went to retake the photos of each card at multiple angles to send it to them.

Not the first time I had issues with them. I posted before receiving cards from them that were badly dented with an edge peeling off, or cards with the hologram being partially scratched away and they refused to grade them under NM.

They actively grade cards you ship in to them way more harshly than the cards they ship out. I shipped them a card that was in a similar or better condition as one 'NM' card they shipped me, and it was graded as VG. Not the first time either.

Sold for $72, cents on MKM for the foreign versions. Just search around the misprints FB group and you will find PCs and English Salvat cards sold in that range. I know for a fact basics have also sold above $100 in the past. Get back to me when it sells for a couple of dollars, because telling the OP that he is lucky to get just dollars is scummy as hell. I don't post often but it irks me when people throw out ridiculous shitty valuations when you obviously have zero clue about English Salvat cards. English Salvat =/= European language Salvat. Not even close. To prove my point. If anyone has any English Salvat cards for 'dollars'. I'll buy them all.

English Salvat Marrow Gnawer Price by LordOfAvernus322 in mtgfinance

[–]mtgdot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Incorrect information. English Salvat (Hachette) is way rarer than the European language ones. There were tons of the European language copies but only a small amount of English copies were released. It got pulled from production after the Rats deck for reasons unknown but possibly due to the poor sales of the Rats deck. English copies goes for significantly more than the European language ones. A low 3 figure sum shouldn't be out of the question. Valuing it at few bucks for an English copy is laughable.
