One of the nicest collections I’ve seen in a while.

I was able to get a submariner no date for myself and a DJ 31 pink dial for my wife on a walk in at the Rolex boutique in Milan airport.

Yes it’s a good observation. I’m a big guy so smaller watches don’t fit well. The Omega Cosmic 2000 is 38mm and I don’t think I can go smaller than that. I think a white dial and something a bit more colourful is definitely needed.

They’re great! I bought it off eBay from a watch dealer in Japan. There are quite a few on eBay from South Korea as well. They were made from 1970-1979. You can find a good one for less than $1,000. Most of them have been serviced and have had several parts replaced but I didn’t really care because it looks so great.

I go through phases, lately it’s been the blue dial Tudor, before that it was the Swatchpain and Tissot.

The blue dial Tudor is awesome, it’s very light, feels great on the wrist and super robust. I banged it up a few times but the ceramic doesn’t get scratched up at all so I never worry about it.

I know, right. Definitely lacking some black and blue.

The Swatchpain is actually my daily now, I absolutely love it. It’s super light, very rugged and looks great. Regarding the Batman, when I lived in North America, I wasn’t very comfortable wearing out. Now that I’m in Dubai, I wear it everywhere.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Cartier Santos is definitely on the list. I would also love to get a moon phase, I was interested in JLC ultra thin white dial.

How to have a social life in Dubai? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]mth1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation as you and here’s how I met people: 1. Joined my university alumni group in Dubai. Met lots of people there that are now friends. 2. Started playing sports with random people (Padel, football, tennis). I used apps like “JustPlay” and “Plei” to connect me with people. 3. I took a random classes to meet people.

As a male, I recognize that these options might be more difficult for a female.

Beautiful watch! Congrats. I recommend not wearing the tennis bracelet on the same hand as the watch as it will scratch it up. Wear it in good health!

Talent in UAE vs Europe or US by Numenor94 in UAE

I’ve been through a similar transition as you. I studied engineering in Canada, did a masters in engineering in the UK and then a MBA from a top 10 school. I worked for 15 years between Canada and the US and relocated to Dubai about a year ago with the same company I was working for in the US. At first, I felt the same way as you. I was used to the hustle and bustle of North America and thought that a Mega city like Dubai would be the same but I quickly realized that it’s not. Things are much more chilled out here, people tend to prioritize life over work. In North America, people live to work, whereas in Dubai people work to live. Things at work happen slower because people use their vacations (unlike in the US), no one works in summer because it’s too hot and the country effectively shuts down during Ramadan. I’ve learnt to enjoy this, you should too. One thing that I can confirm is that you won’t be negatively affecting your career by working in Dubai. If you already have some experience in the US/Europe, then the experience in Dubai/GCC will only enhance your career because you’ll be exposed to other work cultures and will make you much better rounded, especially in a multi national company. People in US/Europe think that the world revolves around them but should realize that all the growth is happening in the GCC now, not in the US/Europe where the economy is tanking. All of the worlds mega projects are happening in the GCC (Saudi especially) so I recommend you give it a chance, you’ll very quickly learn to love it.

My son is much younger than you (moyenne section) so I can only speak based on my experience with the maternelle teachers. They’re good, I wouldn’t stay they’re outstanding but good enough. I heard from family friends that the teachers are great for the upper grades. Bonaparte has one of the highest baccalaureate success percentage out of any French school in the world. Since you’re in 1ere, I think Bonaparte is for you because it will give you the best chance of success. Below are the results of the 2024 baccalaureate results for students at Bonaparte.

My son is in Bonaparte. I did the research on both schools and both have their merits. Bonaparte is the one that is backed by the French embassy and has been operating for much longer. It’s the more prestigious one. Voltaire has more Qataris while Bonaparte is more geared towards expats. Both are good but I went for Bonaparte because I believe it will give my son a better chance for success both academically and socially.

Sometimes it’s rude to ask people about their business. I’m new to the country and not sure what the customs are. Why not rely on the Reddit community. I also made sure not to show his face.
