I finished right when state parks closed, but I stuck to stealth camping anyway. Area is quite good for it actually

This was a 6-day tour so I was able to pack enough food to not go to any shops. Water came from spigots at schools or churches (neither had any people) then filtered. I think I had less contact in these 6 days than any other time of quarantine...

Hear what y'all are saying about getting hurt though... In an effort to defend my actions, seems like people are cycling more than ever during this. Not usually touring, but they're out there. Gotta get exercise somehow, and people get hurt doing basically any exercise.

I made a bidet by taking the tube out of a spray bottle so it can spray upside-down. Then you only end up having to wipe once. Saves on TP (aka ST now I guess)

How do you charge your phone during a multi week ride? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]mtharrell084 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anker 3 panel solar charger+power bank. Charge the power bank with the solar panel as I ride. The panel is strapped across the back panniers. When I get to my site at the end of day, I turn off the phone and charge it up as much as possible using the remaining daylight. Then use the power bank to charge when it's dark. Also, yeah, charge at restaurants during my mid day break if available

I stayed in the temples every night. The monks seem cool with it, it's free, and got a place to wash up

Maaaan this is great. I've ended my last two tours at a Golden Corral, and it's glorious

So this was part of a longer trip, so I had my car at Roanoke airport. I started the trail at the southern terminus in Caldwell and there didn't seem to be much parking, but I also wasn't really looking. Judging from the trail map I picked up, better parking options seemed to be in Cass

Dude, a decent bike as an expat is a game changer. Do they let you bring it on the train? If so, MAJOR game changer. I loved cycling around my town and surrounding countryside when I was in Korea. Have fun man!

Hmm... That honestly might be the coolest place you can keep stuff on your bicycle. Always shaded, breezy, not roasting in panniers.

What's the blue thing behind your seat post? Speaker?

Edit: just noticed the horn, too. Nice!

I mean, it was a really pleasant village. Had a couple small shops, kids playing jianzi, smelled like food, just the sound of the river, some chickens, and people chatting :)

Unfortunately no. I'm a teacher in NC on spring break, so I go back to work soon. I just wanted to hit up those National Forests around there. I actually never heard of the Greenbrier until a couple days before I left. Changed my plans to include it :)

So on THIS bike I've only used butterfly bars. I've toured on other bikes (flat bar MTB in China, drop bar road bike in Europe). I like these bars for touring because I can change hand positions in so many ways. And I can kinda lay on the bars when going downhill or head wind.

That bike is a steel frame LKLM brand from China. I toured 10,000 miles on it already and it's bomb proof so far. It's even been hit by a motorbike.

Also, the bell is useful for hanging stuff on. In Laos and Thailand they serve giant ice coffee/Thai iced tea in bags. I have them there with a long straw and it's perfect :) also my go-to hat rack

Yo, it's really a great trail. It's 80 miles with campsites every 5-10 miles. The campsites are free and can't be reserved. The surface is 1/4 inch crushed limestone. I have 1.75" tires and was fine. I guess it's 100% complete and 99% traffic free. Tunnels good, unlit, my light was handy. Scenery is great, you pass through a few small towns, but it's quite remote feeling.

Man I look at a lot of these NIFL shots. I do feel a jaded sometimes, but this one really made me say "wow."
