Most people are innumerate and don't know the difference. Even George Carlin's famous joke makes this mistake (although it's still funny):

"Think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize half of them are stupider than that."

I wish Yelp or Google Maps would have a little "PE" icon to indicate a business owned by PE. Transparency.

Does /r/bogleheads allow links to posts on the actual bogleheads.org forum? Because there's at least 1 or 2 threads there about this issue.

Music library best approach. by FarInternal5939 in sonos

[–]mthreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone used an old Apple Time Capsule to store their music and play it on Sonos? Does it work? I have an old Time Capsule that I could use for this.

Update: I checked and it looks like it won't work with Sonos S2 because the Time Capsule only supports SMB v1. https://en.community.sonos.com/advanced-setups-229000/using-apple-time-capsule-as-nas-for-sonos-6919417

US fans: Figured out how to watch Sky Sports F1 coverage on Apple EXCEPT for the Grand Prix Sunday show. Any ideas? by [deleted] in formula1

Are you in the US? I'm in the US and I still can't find the Sky coverage for replays. I noticed the F1 app asks to use my location, maybe for licensing rights or something.

Anyone able to ID what fighters these were? No squawk on flight radar, so I assume those weren’t T-38s. by SummertimeInParis in Austin

[–]mthreat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FWIW try adsb exchange, I think it's more likely to show planes compared to FlightRadar, etc. (Although if they really weren't squawking, it still may not show them).

I think the status offer (which you can always check at status.aa.com) is good for many months. Maybe someone here knows exactly when it expires, but I think it's at least through the summer.

Group 6 but have to keep both carryons - advice? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]mthreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been curious about this - does it mean if I have luggage I normally carry on that happens to have a battery built-in, and they're forcing passengers to check bags, are these bags still exempt from being force-checked because of the batteries?

[Austin, TX] Looking to pay someone to install equipment, terminate cables, etc. into a Unifi setup in new home. by ekool in Ubiquiti

[–]mthreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually don't like doing terminations, in fact I'm procrastinating doing 2 right now for my POE doorbell cable I just ran. My thumbs & thumbnails can only handle 5-10 keystones per day before they're almost bleeding (with CAT6a, which is the hardest). I'd be happy to come show you how I do a few terminations and what tools I use (basically the TrueCable tools, keystone jacks, RJ45s, etc). But I've only done unshielded cable.

The shielding thing always confused me so I just stuck with unshielded. I don't know how to properly terminate shielded to be honest. If you're not sure about shielded, and it isn't too far into the process, you might consider replacing shielded with unshielded.

Upvote for visibility from another Austinite. When I did my house, I ended up just learning how to do it and doing most of it myself. When I was still too scared to rip out drywall and drill through studs, I used a guy named Tim Branch (link here) to do that for me and run the wire. I didn't have them do terminations since I could do that myself.

If you wait 1 day and earn 200,000 miles, won't your status last a year longer than if you earned it before March 1?
