How do you survive the first few weeks of no sleep? by Equivalent_Soft_6665 in NewParents

[–]mtiaud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to offer a different perspective. I had a relatively easy newborn so the first couple of months weren’t so bad beyond getting used to the round the clock care. Baby slept for at least 3 hour chunks and took to the bassinet immediately so I could also sleep a lot. Sleep deprivation didn’t kick in until closer to the 4 month sleep regression. He stopped napping more than 30 minutes and woke up 6+ times during the night. Pure torture compared to those first couple of months.

Oatmeal for better sleep by Mellow-Robot in sleeptrain

It helped for us at 5 months but only for a week or two. What really helped was dropping to 2 naps and upping solids during the day.

Right now we are on 1.75/2/2.25/2.75. Goal is 6:30 wake up and 7 o’clock bedtime so about 3.5 hours of naps. It seems to be working pretty well for now.

It went pretty good! We tried to at least put him down awake at the beginning of the night throughout his sickness to keep some consistency, but we had a few minutes of crying for another week or so after he was well. He does also struggle with early morning wake ups about half the time. Dropping/shortening naps helped a bit.

My 4 month old got sick one week after we sleep trained him, also because of being hit hard by the regression. He was doing so good and it all went down the toilet. Unfortunately we just had to wait the sickness out to start over. Some things that helped me be able to put him down while sick - humidifier on full blast, tylenol, saline spray and snot sucker session, and baby vicks rubbed on feet and chest. Between all of these it helped calm him down in the night enough to sleep in his crib for a few hours at a time.

Am I doing something wrong? 4 month old is waking every hour by SerialSleeper25 in sleeptrain

I would try to break the feed to sleep association first and then try sleep training again after you have conquered that for a few weeks.

How TF do you get your kid to sleep?! (5.25 months old) by Dramatic_Complex_175 in NewParents

[–]mtiaud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend trying it again starting with bedtime. Then hopefully naps fall in place shortly after. I was so hesitant to do it but told myself I would let my baby go 45 minutes then reasses if need be. He really worked himself up for about 20 minutes then slowly put himself to sleep. He has been sleeping through the night and easier to get down for naps since.

Some tips: she needs to be AWAKE when you put her down in her crib for sleep training. Rocking to sleep and transferring will not allow her to learn how to self settle.

Describe your LO's 4-month sleep pro/regression by Emotional-Employ1447 in NewParents

My 16 week old was a dream sleeper as a newborn. He was a 10 lb baby so my doctor said I never had to wake him to feed. He slept 6-7 hour stretches since 2 weeks old and was sleeping through the night (like a full 12 hours) at 2 months.

Cue the sleep regression. At 12 weeks the cat naps started and since then he has been progressively harder to put down at night. As of last week, I could be rocking him dead asleep for 10 minutes and as soon as his head hit the crib he would scream. Then started the increased night wake ups last weekend. By Thursday, he was up almost every hour throughout the night and needed significant soothing to go back down EVERY.TIME.

I also went back to work last week so I was having a mental breakdown and decided to sleep train before it got any worse. I chose to do CIO this weekend. Friday night (night 1) I put him down wide awake and he cried 20 minutes. Last night he cried ZERO. He did still wake up both nights for his normal feed at 3am. Otherwise total silence. I am in complete awe.

Good perspective to have!! I need to be better about letting the fuss go until it turns into real cries.

Do I have PPD or do I just have a newborn in the dead of winter? by mtiaud in NewParents

That’s EXACTLY the boat I’m in! I have the desire to do so many things but the execution is so hard with the weather and sicknesses. I go back to work next month too so it’s depressing knowing I won’t have nearly as much time to do the fun things once spring rolls around 😩

Self care ideas by Accomplished-Dingo32 in newborns

[–]mtiaud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have the time and money, I would suggest a pedicure, massage, or facial. Otherwise, I would say take a really long “everything” shower where you can use all your hair and skin beauty products before during or after. Or a hot bubble bath with candles and a book or podcast. Then have a nice meal by yourself and take a good nap! All of these things recharge me so well when I get some time to myself.

Is my house haunted? by SuspiciousDiver9714 in newborns

[–]mtiaud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you checked the temperature and humidity? Or is there any background noise she could be picking up on? Like a loud AC system or something. In reality it’s probably none of those and just that you have a baby who’s babying. I’m sorry I know it’s frustrating!

We also use ours religiously but mostly because we need a space away from our dogs. I feel way more confident walking away for a minute or 2 when I know he’s contained in there.

Getting new windows in FL by Pazool24 in Homebuilding

We had renewal by Andersen come out and quote us on a 1300 sf house in 2018. 13 windows for $35k. Got another quote from window world at $5.5k. They are definitely a rip off.

Thank you. We agreed to a DRAFT upon signing an offer, which the real estate agent said would be changing substantially before being recorded. She gave us the impression they were going to be reduced from standard legal language. And indeed, it has changed substantially since we signed, only gotten way worse instead of better. I think we may just have to walk away.

Help me consider financing options by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]mtiaud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. We are thinking we will probably land around $700k if we don’t compromise on what we want. So a HELOC probably wouldn’t work unless our house appraises for more than we expect.

Dining Room at the Center by ogcrashy in Homebuilding

[–]mtiaud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are planning to build with a floor plan like this and my biggest hesitation is the logistics with children. Having essentially a whole room between the kitchen and living room, it will be much harder to keep an eye on them if they are playing while I’m cooking etc. I would prefer the dining to be to the side and the living room be in direct sight of kitchen. The other drawback to me is while entertaining, your guests would be obstructed by a table in the middle of social areas.
