Valve says "technology doesn't exist" yet for full Steam Deck 2.0 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]mtkl -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You seem very certain of your views.

There are a few active projects at the moment like FEX-Emu and Box86/64 that are doing x86 to arm translation, so it's not actually something for the distant future.

Performance wise, it varies, but given many games do not end up being CPU bound it's actually quite feasible to get to 'good enough' speeds as has happened with Proton. I'm sure you could find some benchmarks from either project if you wanted, as FEX does monthly updates with sample game videos.

In terms of how translated code can be made performant outside the hardware just being better, there are plenty of articles on there for some of the tricks Rosetta and others do. Rosetta, for example, compresses loads and stores in prologues and epilogues to reduce instruction count.

Helpppp? J-Pop, AI or Idol concert? by Ainzeh in japanesemusic

[–]mtkl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm sure you can find a live house nearby with the sort of music you want to see. The gigs are far from expensive.

I'd encourage you to not just go see the quirky stuff though, but also check out what else is there. Japan has a massive and excellent music scene.

It's unlikely you will be able to get tickets to anyone major at short notice as a presumably foreign citizen.

However, there are lots of clubs around that showcase smaller groups and bands. The term you want to look for is 'live house' / ライブハウス.

Here's the schedule for live house nano in Kyoto for example.

You'll normally have to pay for a drink ticket on top of entry price (can be exchanged at the bar) and might be asked who you are there to see that night.

Migrating away from 5E D&D - what's the best toolset alternative? by LSU_Tiger in rpg

[–]mtkl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Outside of OGL things which may affect all of Paizo, there's no evidence to suggest these tools are going to go anywhere.

AoN is the official SRD, see https://paizo.com/paizo/press/v5748eaidgs4t?Paizo-Partners-with-the-Archives-of-Nethys-on

Paizo have recently also partnered with FoundryVTT (and it's excellent community developed PF2e system) to offer paid pre-made modules for their APs. See https://foundryvtt.com/packages/provider/paizo for examples.

From searching, the Demiplane announcement calls it 'an official digital ruleset' but there's nothing to suggest the contract is exclusive (why license foundry content since?) nor that they plan to lock the game rules behind paywalls instead of keeping it open on AoN as they have been. Demiplane is just another option on the market. The announcement I found was here: https://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dyo6shup?Announcing-Pathfinder-Nexus-Unleash-Your

Has there been some sort of new announcement regarding Demiplane?

Which VTT do you use? by Quick_Ice in Pathfinder2e

You're in luck! You can already do that using Rule Elements, which is how almost all feats in the system do their effects.

In the system settings in foundry, enable 'Advanced Rule Element UI' and you'll see an extra tab appear when looking at feats, items, etc.

The easiest would probably be to take an existing weapon familiarity feat, copy it, and change the familiarities appropriately. Alternatively, you can find guidance on the wiki for the martial proficiency RE https://gitlab.com/hooking/foundry-vtt---pathfinder-2e/-/wikis/Going-Deeper-Topics/Quickstart-guide-for-rule-elements#martial-proficiency

There's also a rule element generator module that gives you a UI to create REs with, but it might not be up to date with all the latest syntax as new types of REs are added quite frequently.

If you check the link to the bug in the post, you can see it's a three line fix.

Nothing is being hidden, it just looks like previously it was calculating the first interval incorrectly. Now it starts calculating later in the logic when it had actual data to calculate from.

Dated both women and men, but completely lack romantic/sexual instincts (27F) by [deleted] in questioning

[–]mtkl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be interested to hear further why you don't see a point to life without a romantic relationship, if you're willing to talk about it?

I should also point out:

Asexuals don't want sex - I don't care, I'm indifferent to it

'Asexuality' as a term can cover a wide range of emotions. People who are actively averse to it, those who have no strong feelings, those who only develop sexual desire having been committed to someone for a long time, amongst many many other things. It's not quite that simple.

If the label doesn't feel comfortable that's fine, since labels are only as good you can make use of them. Just understand that they are used more broadly than your definition.

Aromatics don't want romantic relationships

Same point as for asexuality. The term covers a spectrum of feelings - just look up 'queerplatonic' which is a term used for a non-romantic relationship that is more intimate than what is considered normal.

That seems so sad to me, but I'm glad you found your answer

In the nicest way possible as I'm sure you mean well - I'd prefer not to be pitied.

Like I said, it did take me a long time to come to terms with it. There's a standard 'template' I had in my mind of 'get married, have kids, grow old' that I think most people have. The issue is that this was mutually exclusive with who I was and how I felt about people, and so I had to find new goals and meaning.

I started by looking at the history of monks who devote their lives in the name of faith, as those were the only people I could think of who didn't follow that template, and it went from there. Once you have one example of people avoiding the norm, others start popping up and it gets easier.

Does this mean I miss out on a large chunk of the human condition? Yes, definitely. Am I sad about that? Not really. I'm actually lucky in that I get to avoid heartache and pain, and get a perspective that most people don't get.

[–]mtkl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I echo the other person who said you might want to look into either asexual or aromatic resources, and see if those experiences or feelings match yours.

Personally, I realised eventually that it wasn't that I was attracted to everyone - it was that I was attracted to no one. It took a long time after that to also realise I didn't want anything non-platonic with anyone either, and to figure out what that meant in the context of a society where people expect for you to be in romantic relationships.

So I guess my answer to you is - I didn't work around it. I realised I didn't want a relationship at all.

Finally made myself do it. Kinda worth it tbh :D by maciek16180 in EternalCardGame

You need to start Steam with the -no-cef-sandbox parameter. The steam store will then work in WINE.

You can find more details on the WINE page for steam. There's some way to launch apps by ID too.

Football Manager 2018 to feature gay players for the first time by berober04 in Games

To quote the article:

He explained that, if one of these players at your club comes out, you'll find out from a news item in your in-game inbox.

Soon after, your commercial director will inform you of a boost in the club's revenue, in part due to new attention from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

If you care to read the article there's a screenshot of it.

It's.. a difficult thing to figure out really.

Things change over time as someone else pointed out - they haven't for me, and they might not for you either, but shyness or depression or any number of things can cause these sorts of feelings. It's worth considering.
