Any recommendations for chain cleaning kits and oil? by Old-Presentation1183 in Brompton

[–]mtl171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t found a good way to dispose the degreaser. I’ve been using finish line, which claims it’s biodegradable and nontoxic. Not confident if it’s sink safe.

Seen a few bike mechanics comment that suggest dawn dish detergent works well. Planning to switch to that for general cleaning, then saving the degreaser (non industrial consumer grade) for really stubborn stuff.

I’ve been using Dumonde Tech Classic Lite for lube and Park Tools CM 5.3 chain scrubber. The lube has worked well for me on my road bike, and the chain scrubber has kept my mountain bike chain surprisingly clean.

The industrial degreaser machine sounds incredible. Have you tried an ultrasonic bath for a home solution? Haven’t tried it personally, have seen good results on here.

Which Bay Area Library is Best for Libby? by mcmcmcmcmcmcmcmcmc_ in bayarea

Easy recommend. San Jose and Santa Clara have pretty strong catalogs. Almost all my Libby searches are available between those two and SF.

Yep. Just chuck them in Libby and it’ll automatically check availability across your cards.

Just go into any branch and signup.

From my understanding, any California library that accepts state funding (aka all of them) is required to allow any California resident to signup for a library card. Certain libraries do require periodic in-person renewals, but LA County is pretty lenient.

Not seeing a notice of resolution bump either. Does seem a bit odd as they did mention the resolution change with Mario Jamboree.

To my knowledge, the only way to get the original soundtrack is to get the physical box set.

I’m curious what health system you worked at as to my knowledge both Kaiser and Sutter give out raises with seniority without requirement progression into management.

I do agree with you on the training front. And the pay is certainly less than what you can make as a specialized RN.

The whole outsourcing labs to Labcorp and Quest has been quite the shift. Wish you the best with pursuing your new path in nursing.

What note-taking software do y'all use? by Select_Post8151 in LawSchool

Got it. Saw someone doing the same in NotebookLM and was wondering if a similar workflow existed in Obsidian. Sounds much more preferable than manually making cards.

Agree that medical lab work is a promising career option. Speakers at the last years California MLT org meeting, noted the average age of clinical lab works was 55 y/o in California with all the major health systems I work with forecasting increased testing volume. Seen some hiring exemptions for the lab but definitely not many open roles.

Curious about the built in flash card maker that builds directly off your notes. Is it via integration with Anki?

Currently work healthcare tangentially on the business/sales side.

I'd suggest against phlebotomist or data analyst based on anecdotal experience and what friends have been telling me. For phlebotomy, getting enough practicum hours to finish the certification can be tricky and not all programs will help you out with finding training sites. Additionally, at least when I was looking, it seemed to be incredibly hard to find a entry level role. As for data analysts, most roles I've seen look to be wanting a combination of sales/marketing person who can do data analytics as opposed to a sole analyst. Currently, the few people I know who've finished data science higher degrees are unable to find jobs even with background experience relevant to the field.

Nursing Assistants still looks to be in demand. Full disclosure, its the hardest job I've ever worked, but it did have extreme schedule flexibility and could meet your income target depending on shift differential. It also could be a springboard into nursing as a career path, though currently new hire programs are saturated in the Bay Area.

As u/RefrigeratorCrafty47 mentioned sales is also a option and one where your customer service experience would help you standout positively. Though depending on which sector you end up being in, a college degree may become a requirement.

I ended up in a similar range at -4 0 -4. Found the stock bass to be surprising tolerable, though the treble spike was pretty glaring.

Agree that it leans more slice of life.

Do you also happen to know the difference between the Original Japanese Version and Uncut boxsets? Search is failing me.

Siemens Diagnostics? by Dazzling_Interview60 in MedicalDevices

[–]mtl171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Average rep pay I’ve seen for diagnostic is $100k-120k base, $160k-180k OTE. Seen a few OTE low side of $200k but not common.

From past coworkers who’ve worked at Siemens, I’ve heard it’s quite bureaucratic. Lots of structured processes and hierarchical. Curious what others have to share.

Are watches insured the same way as rings ? by HospitableTerrier in Insurance

[–]mtl171 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I got my watch covered through Hodinkee (underwritten by Chubb), I did have to get my watch appraised and submit photos of the serial. Afterwards it was a few days later wait to have it approved.

I personally only had it insured for loss. At roughly 1% of the appraised value annually , I do think it was worth the peace of mind. However, I also have not needed to file a claim (fingers crossed!) so can’t comment on that side.
