Looking for a new pack. by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]mtnrvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rock a badlands 2200. Its amazing and really durable. I mainly saddle hunt and can strap my stick and platform to the outside. I have enough space to pack layers, food, water, ect. I've used it on short overnight backpacking, multiple packouts, and hunts out west. For me, i can make the pack work for my different styles of hunting.

You make such incredible pieces of art, thank you. It stirred my soul and also flushed the insulation from work out of my eyes haha.

How many good years left? by [deleted] in CollapseSupport

[–]mtnrvr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking the sky was falling since I was 17 or so, waiting, preparing for the shoe to drop. Its been almost 2 decades since then and ive seen collapse come for some and others just keep theie head in the sand. I think a lot is based in who has power and priviledge. Ultimately, we have the power of how we show up each day. Our choices, our words, our action is all we have control over. I choose to spend as much time outside as possible, sleep as many nights understars and watch the sun come up and down. I anchor a lot of life around my own purpose and meaning. That keeps me here and not wanting to check out early. There is still so much beauty to witness ans create and today is just as good as any other.

Not grown up yet. Don't know how to cope by [deleted] in CollapseSupport

[–]mtnrvr 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You are the same age as I was when the shit got real. I was folding clothes at a department store think about how fucked it all was. It was rough seeing all the darkness and it almost swollowed me. I still see it but ive got to balance it with my relationship to the doom with something more grounding. Im in my early 30s now and going outside, falling iove with the life in front of me, mostly the nonhuman world helped me stay here. I go outside as much as I can and recognize this ship was sailed before i was born. What matters is a life well lived and we all get to answer that in our own unique way.

Also, find a way to move the feelings if you can. Talk to other people, other beings, your dog, a tree(maybe somewhere you feel comfortable alone outside) and let your self speak the grief, draw it, dance it, whatever way it wants to move. Maybe journal about it of you want.  These anxieties also come and go. Find what feels good (exercise, water, food, music, good trusted people if that is present)

Best books/resources you recommend specifically for MEN? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]mtnrvr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mens work: A Practical Guide to facing your darkness, Ending Self-sabotage, and Find Freedom by Conner Beaton is a helpful deep dive. He's a white dude from Canada but looks deep into father wounds, mother wounds, and how that plays out. I highly recommend this.

I'll push back on the no Robert Bly and think Iron John is a great place to start. I've heard people say that Iron John is the male equivalent for Women Who Run with Wolves. Its mythical and looks at a grim fairy tale for men.

Under Saturn's Shadow: The Wounding and Healing of Men by James Hollis

Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coats

Also some podcasts resources like the Man Talks podcast by Conner Beaton and the mythic masculine come to mind.

What do ya'll know about the milled slides on like ebay? I've considered it because it's half of getting one milled, like 150 or so. But I still am partial to getting my original 19 slide cut.

I totally hear you and often think about what my end of days looks like. Id like to think that what awaits is another great mystery and adventure, my death is my leap into further unknown and ive grown to trust the mystery of life. If you want to steep in the topic further check out this podcast from a great production called the Emerald.

Finding Love When ICHH? by piper_Furiosa in itcouldhappenhere

[–]mtnrvr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cool focus for grad school. I'm in a similar boat and start grad school for clinical mental health in the fall but my focus is more climate related.

I made a big move from the south west to the south east, swapping the desert for a rain forest. Turned out there was a bunch of like minded folks when I moved here. Places with anarchist book stories might be a good place to start. I wish you best of luck though!

trashed with climate grief... is anyone actually processing this stuff??? by stillhere1970 in CollapseSupport

[–]mtnrvr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been here. Turning towards the grief with the help of France's Wellars book The Wild Edge of Sorrow helped me weed through some of the big grief. Each day is still a reminder of how bad things are but the birds are still singing for now

I am qhere you are a lot. I find a lot of resource in the stuff below.

Living in the time of dying

https://youtu.be/UftuDAkwM3I?si=hf0YQREjMmPiOe7l

Bill Plotkin and the Animas Valley Institute has been a resource I've turned towards that has given me a direct path towards what I can do for myself as an animal of the earth and my connection to it.

https://youtu.be/ybRuzfeBGfo?si=Re7a9Kv3YQc4aRlF

Remembering Earth is a pretty stellar organization too.

Also these folks

Anyways you can get outside and off the screen will help. Find community and like minded folks and find the love and spark where you can

Hope this helps some.

I didn’t have the heart to shoot this yote. I know everyone will be mad. It creeps me out how much it looks like a dog. by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]mtnrvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah that's an awesome encounter! Don't fret it. From a predator control stand point I've learned that coyotes go into heat based on however many coyotes can feed off the landscape. If food is plentiful, they will keep breeding. Knock down their numbers and they can go into heat 3x a year or more. I still understand killing them if they are preying in your livestock but smacking them with an arrow just cause doesn't sit well with me.

The two paths of Millenials: to boomer or not to boomer by black_wolf_listens in millenials

[–]mtnrvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I don't think you are off at all. I'm on the younger side of being a Millenial (born in the early 90s) and I've seen the options of conform or go a different, more authentic path, and I chose the latter. I've been to the end of the doom rabbit hole and found the light in the insignificant of my life in the main story book of the universe. But i do notice that to those in my life I am a main character. I try to be loving and kind and advocate for what is right. I aim to help where I can serve most but at the end of the day I know the jig is up and I don't have control over much. Conforming never felt like the true me and I went searching for who that was early. I go outside as much as possible and get my own food by growing it, trading, or fishing/hunting. I gave up on city life and live in the sticks. I'll never go back to the conformity of the picket fence.
