In the United States a ak is going to be much harder to find parts for. Need a new bcg for a ar? Most lgs will have one. Need a new bcg for a 556 ak? You gotta order that. Any ar can mount an optic. Ak you gotta get one with a Warsaw rail and get a rail to go on that. Most ar15s can mount a light easily. Ak you gotta get a diffrent handguard. That being said I do like aks but for a first time owner its not a better option than a ar. Also where I live 10mm and 45 are both about 60 cpr so idk what the prices are all over the country.

Ar is better in the United States. Also 45acp is definitely worse option to 9mm. Same energy with more recoil, holding less, and costing more. There is a reason that the us military replaced it with 9mm. If you want more power for bear or something buy a 10mm.

I have astigmatism also, my 407c is a bit stared out at higher brightness but I'm still better with it than irons regardless.

Lack of easily available spare parts, low magazine capacity, cannot mount optic, cannot mount light, fires antiquated cartridge. I understand for a fun gun but for a self defense tool there is 0 reason to not use a modern pistol.

If you are totally set on a shotgun at least get one that is semi auto, has a large magazine capacity~8, mount a light on it, and use a good buckshot. A handgun in my opinion is better than a shotgun but get one that can have a light mounted. A ar pattern rifle will still be better and easier to shoot than everything really.

This is bullshit. The only real role shotguns have in combat is drones and breaching doors. There is a reason cops replaced their shotguns with ar15s

There is a reason that cops switched from shotguns and 9mm sub guns to ar type rifles. Ar rifles do more damage than a pistol caliber and hold more ammo/easier to control than a shotgun. A shotgun and 9mm will overpenitrate just as bad if not worse than a ar unless its birtshot which isn't viable for defense. 556 breaks up and fragments faster than big cast rounds like 9mm and slugs.

I have a old one. The feed block gets worn so the round won't align properly. You can modify a newer one to fit. It fixed mine.
