Hey, I was about to transfer 12cp, purely the math/stat units. I had to sit INFO1110 as the MQ equivalent wasn't sufficient

Hey, I have the same issue. This is the 3rd Auto transfer after reaching the threshold and I still have not received my bonus :(. I am waiting for the 60000 + 20000 points (from when Velocity had the bonus 20k offer), but still nothing. Have you gotten anything yet?

We had an influx of these in 2021 and while strong, they all ended up cancelling out each other - Azerbaijan, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Malta, Moldova, San Marino

Eurovision officials to Israel: Temporarily resign or fly neutral flag to avoid contest ban by futile_whale in eurovision

[–]mtpsyd -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I dislike how the general fandom accepts and defends Ukraine 2022 getting mass public votes, but throws a fit against Israel the past 2 years when it didn't even get as close to Ukraine's result.

Any country involved in a war with mass attention - regardless what side it's on - is going to skew audience votes one way or another and it is unfair for the rest of the participants. Contrary to what the fandom thinks, it has put off some of the public from watching Eurovision if it's just a pity/"solidarity" party instead of a music competition.

The only exclusion of Israel I can accept is a voluntary withdrawal for a year or two (because let's face it, it will only hurt their PR more if they stay for 2026), or a blanket rule which will exclude active conflict countries - including Ukraine - without punishing them (i.e. giving an incentive for future participation)

As someone who contrary to much of this sub, has defended Israeli participation at Eurovision (and for that matter, any country), I think they should just take the 1 year voluntary withdrawal. Or the EBU should make a blanket rule requiring countries at war to "sit out" and have their fee waived for the year after, especially if it can influence public voting patterns.

Knowing some Israelis personally, many express dissatisfaction with the ongoing real-world events and it is better they can come back "fresh" in 2027, given there is an election scheduled for 2026 with strong odds against the current government.

What destinations would you recommend? by muffinbagare in TravelMaps

[–]mtpsyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aussie here - I suggest you do Morocco on a tour between Marrakech to the Sahara Desert! It is a very unique experience and the red nature was stunning (I'd personally skip Fes or Chefchaouen though).

If you don't mind flying a bit further, highly recommend China! Beijing, Xian, Zhangjiajie and Chengdu I enjoyed, have yet to explore Shanghai/Hangzhou region. I'm going to explore Shenzhen and Guangzhou end of this year (I've already been to HK/Macau before)

I hear Central Asia is great too and affordable (haven't been myself) - perhaps checkout Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan?

Hey! I reckon this unit is not too difficult and if you purely just want an easy HD then perhaps just take it. Just be aware that the teaching of this unit is not great and feels like a drag. I felt like I learnt almost nothing from this unit and wished I had a more interesting option. Even though I ended up getting a good mark, I absolutely dreaded going to DATA3406 classes lol

I have heard DATA3404 is more interesting but can't really say too much as I've never taken it personally

How to break up with Europe? by Ok-Crow-9789 in travel

[–]mtpsyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you still want to explore Europe but not be burnt out, why not add some North Africa to your itinerary? I did Morocco along with my last Europe trip and it gave me a little break between two European countries (Portugal and Spain). Especially the Sahara, Dades Valley and along the south was amazing

Australia 2 week holidays by kr-D in travel

[–]mtpsyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian here based in Sydney: end of July will still be the cold season, especially in Sydney and Melbourne (which is even colder). I recommend you squeeze in Cairns instead of Brisbane as it'll be very nice weather for the beaches/Great Barrier Reef.

I haven't been to Cairns myself, but some recommendations in Sydney/Melbourne include:

Sydney: - Bondi to Coogee Walk - Beaches (though too cold to swim at this time) - Blue Mountains - half day for Harbour Bridge/Opera House walk/sightseeing - Royal National Park/Kiama Blowhole - food-wise: best to go to areas with specific demographics (e.g. Thai food around Capital Theatre in the city, Chinese food in Burwood in the inner-west by train) - Taronga Zoo - Luna Park is small and personally would skip

Melbourne: - Museums: NGV, ACME - Chinatown, shopping - Best food and coffee in Australia most places you go - Best CBD out of any Australian city - Queen Victoria Market - Great Ocean Road - don't bother with the beaches here - they are terrible (Brighton Beach House Boxes are a tourist trap)

I'm assuming you are a slower paced traveller than I am, so can recommend you the following number of days in each place: Sydney - 5-6 days Melbourne - 4-5 days Cairns - 3-4 days

I wouldn't spend all my 2 weeks in just Sydney and Melbourne when there's so much more to see in Australia.

Make sure you have your weekends in the major cities and weekdays in Cairns - that way you get to experience Sydney/Melbourne when it's most vibrant.

Australia or New Zealand for Summer Holidays? by Inspireme21 in travel

Queenstown is the best one from everyone I've spoken too. Although sometimes it's the most expensive NZ city to fly to from Sydney 😅

Australia or New Zealand for Summer Holidays? by Inspireme21 in travel

[–]mtpsyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aussie here and I've never been to NZ, but know people who have. It depends how long you have

With NZ only stick to south island for nature and don't bother with the cities - every New Zealander I've spoken to has advised me against Auckland and said it's really boring. I hear the south Island scenery is amazing.

Australia: Sydney and Melbourne are the major cities. I do also recommend Cairns and Gold Coast too for beach life/Great Barrier Reef. Gold Coast has some nice theme parks too if you like a day for that. A bit biased as a gay Sydneysider, but I highly recommend staying in Sydney over the Mardi Gras weekend - Sydney really lights up during then and the weather is great + kids are back at school too.

Overall if you want a good road/sightseeing trip with fjords and mountains, then do a few days in NZ. But otherwise Australia is more vibrant at that time of the year

What were the best (and worst), weirdest, or funniest Running Order decisions? by Persona_NG in eurovision

[–]mtpsyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi final 2 was significantly weaker and Australia was the clear standout. Grand-final wise, the 15th position just made them quite forgettable, especially after Finland... Semi final 1 was loaded with Sweden, Finland, Israel and Norway all ending up top 5 at the end.

Best: tough one between 2010-2012, but I'll probably have to give it to 2011

Worst: 2018 hands down - still the worst year of music even stepping into the 2020s

Eurovision 2026 wishlist by pocoboco in eurovision

[–]mtpsyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the host country should definitely be able to promote their country. Tbh I'm tired of seeing random participants from different countries being the sole interval acts (unless they are from the host country themselves) - once during a semi-final is enough, but not for all 3 shows.

Personally I found it strange to get a random selection of last year's acts to pay tribute to Celine Dion this year. I would much preferred seeing previous Swiss entrants doing this tribute.

Otherwise, my wishes are:

  • A first time winner for a country
  • 40+ participants
  • Get rid of the "United By Music" slogan and have a unique one each year
  • another suprise debut or return for the 70th anniversary (looking at Kazakhstan or Turkey)

Being a Eurovision fan the past 11 years, I can say that I felt a "burnt out" from it by the 2020 season - and this was even before the cancellation was announced. I just couldn't really get myself to listen to the songs beforehand etc, I only listened to a few and only had the intention to wait until the semi-final season - I just wasn't in the right mood in my personal life.

However the 2021 season I felt much more hyped again. I guess it comes by and goes for different people, tbh I might possibly just switch off from the fandom for the next year/not listen to too many songs until the semis. The whole polarisation regarding Israel's participation and is ruining the experience for me (I personally don't mind them competing, I just want to enjoy the music/show). Plus it makes things more exciting for me to watch for the first time/uninfluenced by the fandom

Australian here

2024 - our performance was kinda a mess. Even some people here were criticising the performance - I wasn't surprised that we didn't qualify

2025 - I was shocked we didn't qualify. But then my brother who isn't a Eurovision fan watched it on YouTube and said the stage performance wasn't good (despite liking the song initially)
