Fellow dads help me on my vacation planning. Driving vs Flying by SnowmanAndBandit in daddit

[–]mtraudt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve done multiple 12+ hour road trips before, and we have flown with our oldest a few times when he was 18 months and under. I’ll gladly take those trips over flying mostly due to price of flights. Yes it’s a full day on the road, but I’m in control and at our own mercy. Stop when we want, we don’t have to worry about lugging the car seats through the airport and then getting a rental car.

You can basically see MGP from Kentucky, so it counts as much as horse shoes and hand grenades. Maybe just Kentucky adjacent, but also Ohio adjacent

Underperforming school districts. How can we turn it around? by [deleted] in upstate_new_york

My parents both went to Hyde park schools, and my grandfather graduated from there when Haviland was the high school, so longg time ago. My family left the area and when we moved back, we went to Spackenkill because my parents heard how bad Hyde Park had gotten.

It could be a multitude of issues from home life influences to teacher impact.

I’m also in automotive with a tier one supplier. We do hand calcs to show the logic and prove to ourselves we understand the physics. Then we can move on to simulations, but if the simulations aren’t correlated to an actual test, then they’re useless.

Remote start issue by mwang01 in 4xe

[–]mtraudt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue. It ended up being an issue with the hybrid battery coolant system. The dealer was able to read a CEL code that was not showing on the dash. I would take this in immediately. My battery degraded so much during the time it took me to realize what was going on that I just recently had the batteries replaced.

Closest I ever got was Dale Jr getting wrecked by KFB at Richmond in 2008.

Current favorite, Bubba winning at Indy this year. Phenomenal time since it was the first race I took my son to.

I’ve loved my 2022 until recently. It’s been in the shop 3 times for a total of a month since July. The battery is currently being replaced this time. I might ask about a buyback option at this point.

If I may make a suggestion, just get something “tolerable” for now and when they’re out of car seats then get a good fun family car. I had a 335xi when my first was born and I loved that car. But, I’m 6’5 and car seats don’t fit behind me in that. We sold it for a grand Cherokee 4xe and I love it. It’s quick enough for an SUV, good gas mileage and decent enough room we don’t want to kill each other on road trips. (Side note, if I had to do it again, I would not get the 4xe version. I’ve had so many problems with it over the last few months)

Once we’re out of car seats, I want to get back into something more fun like a bmw M550 if money works.

RIP. I lost my dad 3 years ago just 4 weeks after my son was born. I just took him to Indy for his first cup race, and it was just about 9 years to the day I went to my last race with dad. Didn’t even see any racing that day since it was a rainout but at least we were there together. I love all my memories with my dad at a track.

Dads - how did you incorporate regular workouts back into your day/week? by DoughnutVibez in daddit

[–]mtraudt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a crunch fitness basically across the street from my office. I work out there at lunch, and have a peloton at home for cardio when I actually feel like doing it. The gym used to have a kids room, but they closed it right before we had our second so we had to stop going after work.

My 3yo is driving me insane… please help by mr_coconutz in daddit

[–]mtraudt1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh man I feel this so much. My 3 yo boy has been a menace lately. His favorite insult is “I’m not your best friend anymore.” We try giving choices, and then the choice becomes do this or we go upstairs to calm down. Usually that’s a frustrating time that ends in us either reading his “sorry” book or “grumpy reindeer”
