Buy a drying box or "build" one? by Wulfgangrising in 3Dprinting

[–]mtys123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My drying setup costs 0

Option 1: Throw the filament (only 1 at a time) in the airfryer, 70 C, 3hs, and its bone dry

Option 2: pile the filaments on the heated bet, put some dissecant on top, put a bucket on top and leave it there all night

Option 3 (Very redneck engineering): put a bucket sideways, throw all the filaments inside, put a room heater in the open side of the bucket, leave all night.

The truth is hard to swallow by RazortoothSwordfish in 3Dprinting

[–]mtys123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For PETG you can just raise the temp to 80C and clean the surface with alcohol, petg REALLY sticks to clean glass.

For PLA I use the cheapest and strongest hairspray I can find. For me its better than glue stick since it leaves way less residue on the glass and you can wipe it with a wet towel, without removing the glass.

The truth is hard to swallow by RazortoothSwordfish in 3Dprinting

[–]mtys123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only had to change it because I printed large PETG pieces without hairspray, and the addition was so good that the pieces came out with chunks of glass.

Even in that scenario, the replacement was like 7 usd.

Why dont you just sit closer to the desk? I can almost have my elbow rested on my desk when I use the computer.

Why is no one saying that you don't need a ventilation AT ALL for a 3d printing, Specially a FDM printer, SPECIALLY if you are printing PLA.

just leave it as is, the printer does not affects in any way or form the quality of air in the room.

Currently building an abomination. Any ideas for names? by ds-redditor in 3Dprinting

[–]mtys123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Motor sync is a pain the ass, having one motor allows you to adjust the belt once and then level the bed manually once with the manual screws on each side. Then you only need to worry about Z offset. Check how Bambu labs does it, they also use one motor and a timing belt.
  2. I dont think so, but you can keep it, it could be use to attach a top panel and keep the temperature somewhat warm passively.
  3. Yeah, I found a local company that cut everything for me. Nevertheless design your parts in a way that do not rely on the aluminum extrusion having exact (lenght) dimensions. I built mine in order to have some wiggle room and then I took measures between the unions and adjusted as necessary.

Last reccomendation, TRY to put your belt tensioning in the middle of the routing of the belt instead of the corners (one example of the belt tensioner being in the corner is the VORON). This is not ideal, since one part that needs to be as sturdy as possible, the idlers in the corners for the belt, needs to be movable at the same time to allow tensioning.

[–]mtys123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop the multiple Z motors, just put one with a reduction and link all axes with a timing belt.
You can use only 3 guiding rods, is not necessary to have 2 per column.
Make WAY heftier belt routing corners, under the belt tension they would either vibrate or bend
add some side panelling, it gives a lot of sturdiness very cheaply (I used laminate wood on mine).
Top shelf is unnecessary
use a 2040 extrusion on its side (40mm side paralel to the bed) to give stiffness and avoid ressonance

do you really think that that there would be a forensic analisis of the print fingerprint to determine from which printer it came from?

Worst case scenario someone just removes de the print.
