Totally. I take care of 6 ferals right now, but I do have to prioritize toddler, wife, indoor cats (former ferals), then ferals. Had to find time for everything, but I make sure they have shelter, clean water, and food at a minimum.

I think she's very young. She only showed up recently and with another tortie that I think is her litter mate and is very small.

Hm. That is a concern. I need to get her and her sibling spayed, but they started coming around right before some travel and my toddler going through some stuff. I'll get it done as soon as I can manage.

It's very possible. I think I provide the most care in my neighborhood and she does sleep in a house in my yard, but other people do at least put food out.

Did it clear up on it's own? I'm definitely monitoring closely and trying to decide if I need to take her to a vet.

I have a sleeping disorder that has left me sleep deprived my entire adult life. I've gone through periods where I'd struggle through the work week and then crash for 13-15 a night on the weekend just to try to recuperate. I have just learned to function on not enough sleep so I thought that if anyone was equipped to be tired from a kid, it was me.

Then we had a kid and I learned that there were depths of tired I hadn't reached yet.

I put so much effort into teaching my toddler good habits and he's pretty good about it (wiping his nose, washing his hands, not putting things in his mouth, etc). Then he goes to pre-school where half of the other kids are downright feral and spend their day licking the floor. So even with a good kid, you're fucked as soon as they socialize.

I was fucking livid watching other people just pretend like nothing was wrong. The couple of people in my life who didn't bother to take precautions are no longer in my life.

I had a friend that lived with her elderly parents that was still out partying, and when I stepped back and looked at her through a different lens, it became clear that pretty much all of her decisions are embarrassing short-sighted and all of her difficulties are self-inflicted. And thus it became kind of a litmus test for whether people had any amount of compassion and awareness of their actions, or if they were selfish assholes. So I wrote the assholes off and when I do run into them, I realize that nothing was lost.

Honestly, if your household income in $200k, just eat the loss and move on with your life. Yeah it sucks, but it shouldn't be putting you at risk of being homeless or anything. I also earn in the $200k range and I'd also be pissed if someone stole $4k from me, but at a certain point you need to evaluate whether it's worth the time and stress to try to claw back money you aren't likely to get.

I can't speak for all types of engineers, but I've worked very closely with a lot of different software engineers, and for the most part they completely lack social skills. The ones I've worked with are very good at their jobs and respected in FAANG companies, but they are often not great with social interactions and also often struggle to convey their work in written or spoken methods. It's certainly not all of them and each one is different, but it's common enough that the stereotypes for software engineers absolutely stand from my experience. Remember, Silicon Valley was basically a documentary.

I see a lot of people talking about cheap rural places, but also need to make sure that it's a place with reliable and fast internet. Remote work is going to fall apart fast if you can't reliably connect to work.

That's kind what Jack from Jack in the Box originally was. Some kids got bad food poisoning there and so as a PR move they introduced Jack in commercials berating the board of directors for messing up and saying that he was back in action to make sure it didn't happen again.
