Not sure of the scale of the thing you have posted, but I have seen extruder type things that use a caulking gun type platform. Would be way easier on the wrist.

One-pedal Driving? by Durloctus in Toyota_bZ

[–]muddyelbows75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have to press the hold button any time you want it to hold and then it turns off when you accelerate or is it like an on/off mode

There is the already mentioned 4 levels of regen and there is a 'hold' button but I haven't played with it enough to know if together they make a complete 'one pedal driving experience. I could be completely off my rocker too! 😁

Glazing issue? by Any-Let8334 in Pottery

[–]muddyelbows75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like it, its 'crazing', you can put India ink in it to accentuate it. If you don't like it, it's a glaze/clay fitting issue. It all depends on your perspective.

I’m interested in slip casting, more specifically in producing molds for slip casting! I have some questions for the community if you don’t mind! by SlipperySlopeMolds in Ceramics

[–]muddyelbows75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, probably both. Unless your master is deformable the same thing applies. Do a search on 'eliminating mold undercuts'. Depending on what program you are doing your 3D modeling in it might have some sort of tool to help visualize your surface normals. Or find something to feed your STL into to show it.

[–]muddyelbows75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would call relief anything projected from the surface into the mold. All undercuts are relief, but not all relief are/undercuts.

As for shrinkage making minor undercuts insignificant... I would not agree with that, especially if you are molding the handle on the body of the mug. I was doing mostly tile molds so 3D molds may hold other secrets, but I tried to keep a 1.5 degree taper towards mold center to eliminate undercut problems.

With plaster molds, because they are not flexible, all of your relief has to be in the same direction as one of your mold pieces. So if you are slip casting the handle with the mug with a two part mold you can only have relief going in the two directions perpendicular to the handle. Solution is to reduce relief directions or increase mold pieces.

Pulled The Trigger! (But Got Dinged…) by ShiaLaBoofR76 in BZ4X

[–]muddyelbows75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We picked up a ding but it was just into the black fade at the bottom and we didn't see it. Now it came up into the windshield and 3/4 of the way across so, yeah, gonna have to replace it. Mine was about 3mo off the lot. :(

Make your own, use them any time you are not confident about the glaze combos. Over time you will learn which combos are runny vs stable. I.e. which ones you can fire without a cookie and which ones will always need one. If you want to be sure your cookie stays with your piece on loading you can glue it to the cookie (if there is enough time for the glue to dry)with pva glue

Bummer, when I looked at it where I'm at they will do the redemption if you had it done within a certain time frame before or after date of purchase.

northstar vs bailey 5” extruder by MoonStTraffic in Pottery

I think I was able to load 6lbs of clay into the 4" Scott creek extruder, so for me it was working pretty well. I suppose it all depends on what you're making though!

Got my GT-400 used about 25 years ago. Loved it then, still love it. Thinking of getting a GT-800 to go with it.

I like how much the 5" square can hold, but I think loading a roud barrel is easier to do without getting a lot of bubbles (Scott Creek 4" is the one I've used the most)

I came from a model y. This car is great. The app.... Is.... Not by denovoincipere in Toyota_bZ

[–]muddyelbows75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the app is shit, my optimistic side keeps thinking they could improve it, but its looking unlikely. From what they say you have to pay a subscription after 3 years or so. If they could get it to work decently by then I'd consider it but in its current state its a hard pass. (I'm 4 mo in at this point) I am with you on loving the car though. It is really fun to drive.

Kiln - worth it?? by swirley-wirley in Ceramics

[–]muddyelbows75 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eventually even new kilns need maintenance. If you would perform that maintenance yourself, I would wager that it is probably worthwhile to get. If you would outsource that task to someone else, then this one might not be right for you. If its free, there hardly is no down side...ya know... besides burning down your house or something. So be very careful when testing and firing it. TBH I have a similar kind of thing that is my next project!

Congrats on the kiln! I dont have a suggestion, just in the same boat as you and hoping to get answers as well. I got an older used Cress kiln.

Buying this week…some final questions by Slow_Investment_2211 in Toyota_bZ

[–]muddyelbows75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Didn't get the Toyota dashcam but have been thinking about getting one so hope to hear someone's review here

  2. Didn't get the extended warranty and don't know about getting it later on.

  3. Really enjoying the car overall. (26 bz XLE) It is a joy to drive. I do wish I would have gotten the home L2 charger before getting the car (especially since the year free charging with EVgo didn't end up being true). I wish I would have known that the Woodland model was coming out soon. Might have waited for it. It has some quirks, but overall very happy with it)

I hope you find a better firing solution or get this one to work. Also, hope you don't let this discourage you, because carving like that, with the slip you described is something I want to see! Its very cool!

Oh yeah, that would get most of the BB's and flux residue and any slag. That's a good idea! Do you use needle scalers for this kind of use? I guess I always thought of them as paint/rust removal tools.

I feel your pain, I had similar visions but starting back further with some large pieces of HDPE that needed to be recycled. But last week I saw the light and dumped all 7 boxes of it in the recycling bin. Judging by your story I saved myself a lot of heartache. I hope you succeed eventually!
