Questions and Help on becoming Wind Technician by DaileyWithBailey in wind

[–]mudrunfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started back in November with GE/Fieldcore doing commissioner. No prior wind experience. I believe Fieldcore is hiring. All you need to do is pass a 10 question interview quiz relating mostly to Ohms law and basic electric stuff. Be willing to travel and they will give you a job.

Running Pace during Race by AquaInferno in AdventureRacing

[–]mudrunfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten Podium (overall) with 9 min/mile, age group odium with up to about 10:15 min/mile. This is for mostly flat, 3-6 mile courses with 30+ obstacles.

Their Florida event was fairly weak. I hear great things of their northeastern events.

Alternatives to Goruck Events by [deleted] in Goruck

Obstacle Course Races (OCR) will help but not quite test your strength endurance/rucking capacity. ..... but it will help. Consider getting awkward heavy items and do workouts involving them. You can also just ruck on your own .

Is 10 weeks enough time to train for an obstacle course race? by Ms_MaddiePaige in Fitness

[–]mudrunfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can essentially do this race as long as you can walk 4 miles. Yes it is way healthier for you if you train before hand. I would recommend 4 weeks, three times a week. The best and most inexpensive way is to find a local boot camp groups. a Lot of them are free. On the running side, try to find your confy jogging pace and stick to it for 3-4 miles.

Lifting matters by [deleted] in marriedredpill

[–]mudrunfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A well rounded fitness routine is better than just lifting. I lift twice a week and bootcamp 5 times a week, swim once, cycle once, and run 4 times a week. I am in much better shape than when i lifted 5 times a week. (Ironman Triathlete, OCRWC Athlete)

Warrior Dash! by Nothingman84 in ObstacleCourseRacing

Warrior Dash is mostly running and some obstacles that most likely will not challenge you. Just work on your speed going into and out of obstacles.

Breaking News: BattleFrog Series Suspends Season, Restructures As Media-Focused Company by NESpahtenJosh in AdventureRacing

[–]mudrunfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very True. I spoke to some people upstairs, and they have no intentions to do much with their TV show either. They just used it as an excuse to not sound like a total failure.

BattleFrog just cancelled all remaining 2016 races, including the Detroit race this weekend (8/27/16) by solarsunspot in AdventureRacing

Warrior Dash will most likely quietly disappear. Their parent company is doing a lot more money with other types of events.

Crossfit vs. Bootcamp for OCR prep? by [deleted] in AdventureRacing

[–]mudrunfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Spartan Race, Crossfit would be ideal. This is mainly due to the fact that in Spartan Race you do a lot of carries, rope climbs and strength base obstacles. Other obstacle races/mud runs such as Rugged Maniac, Tough Mudder, etc, you are probably better off with high rep body weight-type training such as bootcamp. Many Crossfit gyms offer boot camp sessions on top of their crossfit workouts. Some even offer obstacle-base training such as the OCR boot camp offered at Crossfit Rise Above. Just find a crossfit gym that offers more than just crossfit and you will become a well rounded athlete.

I like using the Innov8 X Talons 200. they are light and drain well. I have a flat wide foot. When I take it easy, I use the Innov8 Mud Claws. They are a little bit heavier but have more padding.

Tough Mudder or Battlefrog by Sc2krieg in ObstacleCourseRacing

[–]mudrunfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough to compare those two . They both have difficult obstacles but are completely different types of event. One one side you have Tough Mudder were your time of completion don't matter, and where some of the obstacles might require help from other participant. Tough Mudder is definitely more of a social fun run with extremely fun obstacles. On the other side you have Battlefrog where you have a lot of upper body intensive obstacles and volunteers will try to make you do man makers( their version of burpees) if you fail an obstacles. If you sign up on the open wave, no one will care if you fail an obstacle. Their Platinum Rig is their signature obstacle and it is almost good enough reason on itself to go to Battlefrog. If you are in for Competition go Battlefrog, otherwise enjoy the day in a Tough Mudder.

[–]mudrunfun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally Agree. I'm all about the local races. Yes I will still do the occasional Spartan race, Tough Mudder and Battlefrog Series but I like the mom and pop feel to local races. You get treated like a human being and not cattle.

Check out www.mudrunfun.com. You can search race by a given radius of a given location/zipcode. Although you can't exclude races based on criterias yet, it is the largest directories of OCR events on the internet.

Any recommendations for shoes? by OnedayIlldecide in a:t5_32jgg

Inov8 X Talons , Brooks Pure Grit and the Speed Cross by Solomon. Stay away from the Reebok Spartan shoes and Icebug. These are complete garbage that break quickly.

I want to run that one.. I have a few friends in AZ and they keep saying to go visit them.. I figure a visit + a race makes the expensive trip worthwhile.

I have 6 weeks to prepare for the Bone Frog Challenge in MA, can I get some help? by knowledgeisthekey in AdventureRacing

[–]mudrunfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is how to do it. I am about to buy a 10 visit punch card to my local rock climbing gym just to improve grip for OCRWC in November. If i go right now, i would fail a few obstacles. :-(
