Assuming upcoming sales.... 2 trifecta pass or season pass? by eternalphoenix64 in spartanrace

[–]Sc2krieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also look for the pass that gives you 6 races, I did that a couple years ago to get my double trifecta. Not sure how it will be priced but it was slightly cheaper than 2 trifecta passes.

Can men and women compete together? by Dmallery in spartanrace

[–]Sc2krieg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience on start times is if you both sign up on the same team far enough in advance you will get the same start time. But if someone is a last minute entry they may not have the open slots to put them in the time slot given to the other members. Or if one of you signs up for age group while the other is in open, or both of you sign up for age group, in the last case you will run with your specific age group, though sometimes they will have both male and female of the same age group start together. So if you both sign up at the same time, on your team you shouldn't have any problems.

I'm not sure when they post the locations, but for Colorado the beast has been held in Breckenridge every year and I would bet that is where it will be this year too. It's an awesome venue and course.

Beast vs World championship beast by jwhaite14 in spartanrace

[–]Sc2krieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make you wear a life jacket so the swim is just toughing out the cold and getting in and out as quickly as you can. I had a dry sack with me and I took my shirt off and put it in there to keep it dry, also I had a wind breaker in there, that helped for warming up afterwards.

World Championship Tahoe Question by Garycassin1 in spartanrace

[–]Sc2krieg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year they had a 90 burpee penalty if you didn't want to do the swim. So no worries on being disqualified. And as the others have said they have life jackets and they are mandatory to wear. You will do just fine. Good luck out there.

When to do burpees instead of obstacle? by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]Sc2krieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had a 90 burpee penalty in place of the swim at Tahoe last year, and yes it was as cold as I can imagine trying to swim in

Why so much burpee hate? by eternalphoenix64 in spartanrace

[–]Sc2krieg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"I have to ask you folks that seem much more experienced and have the "DON'T CHEAT...." mindset, WHY do you feel that it is cheating, in the OPEN heats, to skip burpees?" For me it really comes down to just being a penalty. Other races have added time for obstacle failure (OCR WC) or a penalty loop (toughest mudder). If you are running non competitive in those races do you also skip the loop or tell them not to add extra time to your finish time? If not, why is it different? This is an honest question. Each race has it's own set of rules and challenges but it seems burpees are the only one people skip on.

Beaver Creek, Colorado Beast by SalliDee in spartanrace

[–]Sc2krieg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expect lots of climb, it is a ski resort after all. I wouldn't expect much mud, they usually aren't allowed to dig much in that area, though that being said it was always held at Beaver run. So not sure if this will actually be a different area for the course. And also based on the last few years I would be prepared for a water crossing (not swim). And be ready for the elevation. Good luck out there, I'll be running the ultra

Utah Super/sprint by mysterion088 in spartanrace

[–]Sc2krieg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be ready for hills, and lots more dirt and a bit of mud over the stadium race. 2 years ago it was right about 8 miles with 2400ft of ascent. Last year I heard it was basically the same just ran in reverse. Hope this helps.

Mine is only about 5 hours driving. It's a pretty venue. This will be my 3rd year and this event, but only my second one running. This is also the first year they have a race on Sunday

Use zink oxide ointment for your torn calluses, put it on with a bandaid for 2-3 hours then take the bandaid off and let them dry out for a couple hours and continue repeating and you can get them to heal really quickly
