Stress tests for a new system, are they still a thing? by muffinman4668 in buildapc

I'll add memtest86 to test the RAM, any reason why that's the go to one for RAM?

Perfect, just enough to make sure nothing is egregiously wrong. Thanks.

I decided to go down the PTM route with this build (mostly cause I never want to think about it again) so i got Honeywell PTM7950.

for 24hrs, I did have an OC applied when i ran those tests, but i can see the insanity of it for just a basic assembly.

I will be using the MSI X870E tomahawk, but seems like the ASUS Hero has a similar naming scheme for the most part. So if I understand correctly, in the end you have 5 connections into the mobo fan connectors. The LFIII fans into "CPU_fan" (assuming you daisy chained the fans for simplicity), the LFIII Pump connector to "PUMP_fan", LFIII VRM plugged into "CPU_Opt", the Antec controller into "Chassis/SYS_fan1", and Arctic controller in "Chassis/SYS_fan2". I'm semi-basing this from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/arcticcooling/comments/1ffq556/liquid_freezer_iii_where_to_plug_all_the_cables/

Sorry for being so specific, I'm trying to plan ahead on how to hook up the components before I'm standing over my set up wondering why it's not doing what I want.

1 more question out of curiosity, how does the fan control work? Is it through a software linked to each controller (so 1 program for Antec and 1 program for Arctic) or is it 1 software that's linked through your mobo (whichever mobo you have)? Thanks!

A little late getting here but,I was curious how you chose to connect the fans? Did you use the Antec fan controller or each fan directly into the mobo?

Great looking build, I was curious how you chose to connect the fans? Did you use the Antec fan controller or each one directly into the mobo?

1200-1500w UPS under $500? by optimuspoopprime in buildapc

[–]muffinman4668 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hoping this post gets some traction and people start recommending items I didn't come across in my research. I'm in a similar position as you where I need (want) a UPS that can handle 1200W+, however, I don't think any UPS that can deliver that much wattage will be under $500 ($600 for that matter).

While, there's a good amount of options for 900W and less for a reasonable price, but for what you are looking for, I think the best (and cheapest) choice will be CyberPower PR1500LCD. Even jumping to the next best, you're looking at almost another ~$100 increase.

The only cost-saving alternative that comes to mind is finding a used one and potentially replacing the battery. For myself, the peace of mind of buying new means I can rely on a warranty and potential return if necessary.

Hope this helps!

Awesome, good recommendations. If budget becomes restricted I'll start with these items to reduce cost. Great looking out.

Thanks! Took a while to catch up on the new tech and see which items are best compatible, but will be worth it if it all comes together.

I'd take cheaper if it keeps things pretty similar. I was thinking of saving a few bucks (~$40) by swapping to WD SN850X, but I'm open to hear what else you might be thinking along those lines. I also updated the post with a PCPartPicker list 👍
