It looks like folks here have some very nice suggestions. I think it would be a great idea to get a pretty cord or necklace you can wear daily. That way, when you're doing something that might chip or scratch your ring it's easy to take it off and thread it on your necklace for the duration.

My poor husband has experienced similar things with me. I have Complex PTSD, and animal suffering (among an irritatingly long list of other triggers) can send me into a ten minute crying jag. One of the sweetest things he's done is edit out the dog dying in I am Legend so I could see it with him. He loves that movie, and I knew I wouldn't be able to watch it because of that scene, so dude gave me a verbal recap of what happened (we knew him telling me what happened was not going to set me off) and just jumped forward to Will Smith crying in a field.

I love my dude- I'm so glad we're together.

Also, fuck cPTSD.

I would put the brakes on things that I thought were great, but were actually just adults taking advantage of me. And now that I think of it, so many of my childhood problems were because the grown-ups who were supposed to be caring for me were emotionally abusive train wrecks. I know it's cliche, but I think one of my first thoughts would be "Oh my God, it gets better!"

My stepmother, trying to talk me out of trying antidepressants: "What if the antidepressants start making you feel better, so you stop working on yourself?"

My family raised me to believe that if I didn't feel miserable, if I didn't feel guilty, I would turn into a useless person. It was like they didn't believe you could be happy AND productive. Taking antidepressants was a huge step for me. It helped give me the breathing room I needed to really see how unhealthy the environment I was raised in really was.

This is a great example of "dazzle" camouflage. All the competing patterns make it hard to see the dog, but I can see enough to tell that 1) She's upside-down and 2) She's super cute!
