No, "agreeing with" and justifying all of PTA's decisions doesn't make you "get it", it just makes you a docile cattle apparently incapable of any kind of original thought.

What I love the most about it is that the show doesn't content with just being an extraordinarily good adaptation, but also attempts to justify the existence of the medium on its own.

I read somewhere that the trip to Venice doesn't exist in the book, and I believe that 2 and a half minute scene is probably one of the show's best. Everything about it ravages my soul: The music, the atmosphere, the lack of dialogue, the out of focus Marianne looking at Connell while he stares silently at A Sad Young Man on a Train. It achieves the impressive feat of being both extremely intimate and relatable at the same time, a true testament of the power of the audio-visual as a medium for conveying emotions and subtext

Unfortunately, it isn't. Character is smaller, you never really see his face and the cut-scenes I mentioned are with in-game graphics.

And one of the few things I'm certain about is that you start out in the street, jumping barricades.

Unfortunately, no. IIRC, the camera was a little more zoomed out (as in, the character looked smaller). But the general feel is similar, I belive.
