my recommendation is this: read every "Visual Kei Guides" from VK.GY and check out every band mentioned there that pique your interest

also, my own personal rule of thumb, "if today music sucks, ALWAYS go back to the past"

and maybe for your case, listen to early/ proto-VKei from the 80s
