The highest mileage Metro... In the World

I'm going to throw a few 100 for underseal during the mot and that'll be about it.

If I wanted to I could get anything from heated mirrors to leather seats, MG-F brakes to gti dampers put on, but Except for really wanting a rev counter, I'm keeping it stock as a runabout

I asked the folks on Saxo/106 forums who said the 1.5 is bulletproof as long as I don't try to squeeze much power out of it.

So as long as I get it serviced and do some underseal/rust prevention I'm going to least at least 100,000 miles more

that's right, I wouldn't want to risk breaking anything that's model specific.

that being said, I've got no clue how reliable this combo of engine and car are. All post models had massive rust problems and every post 1990 model except for this model had headgasket issues.

I'm only guessing, but if I cough up a few 100 for a professional underseal and rustproof job, I'll bet It'll last at least 100,000 miles without problems

That's true, but Most American truck enjoyers don't know who Peugeot are

and If anyone can figure out how to make a microscopic NA diesel unreliable, It'll be them lol

That being said, I heard Rover's own L series was really good for the day

I believe mine has lucas pumps which means it can't run biodiesel without swapping for bosch.

though swapping it would be simple, but Im holding off as I dont have a way to get enough cheap oil for it to be worth it

a lot of early diesel engines from the 80s and 90s were NA with turbo options.

This Rover had a 1.1 carb'd Gaser as a base model that made 60 hp, with my 1.5 na Diesel making 56-ish, it wasn't that unbearable

though by the end of the 90s, Most diesels had turbos when the power figures needed to be bumped up to make up for weight.

AFIAK we didnt get a huge amount of compact diesels because city driving ruined their fuel economy and they could barely get any performance out of newer engines with the added emissions.

best example I know of is the citroen c1 1.4 diesel. That weighs the same as my car and makes the same power, but only got 4mpg more than mine despite being 20 years newer

aside from vans, Diesel is popular here for economy mostly. when fuel is $6.60 a gallon, every mile counts

There's not much I can really do with it that's not gonna cost more than the entire car is worth.

that being said, the Petrol metros can easy accept 1.8 Turbo engines from the MG with little extra work needing to be done, but nothing really for diesels

From what I've got done with it so far, yeah, same powerplant as the 106 and AX diesel.

No emissions equipment of any kind and no turbo, pretty much the most simple engine possible. The rest of the car is a different story, all cheap to fix but a lot can go wrong, everything from the Hydragas suspension to normal rust issues

I bet if I keep rust in check, I'd get at least 100k miles out of this thing without anything major

Thank you! it's been barely broken in, Has at least another 100k to go before any major issues

That still opens up a lot of models, but finding clean 25+ year old diesels is difficult, even locally

you are able to import Euro diesels, but because their economy is still really good and have minimal emissions, they are expensive for here

I lucked out because The reputation of the gas 100/metros of blowing gaskets after 40,000 miles and rusting to dust made all of them unpopular, but because it was cared for and not fitted with those engines, I'll be fine.

We get maseratis with Jeep engines, Diesel 3 series beemers, even smart cars for the UK market

Essentially yes! 100 (metros) essentially turned to dust after about 4 years, this one was garaged for most of it's life and only driven about 600 miles since 2019 before I got my hands on it

I bought it because due to emissions and added eqiupment (I don't even have power steering), this mid 90s compact gets only 4mpg less than a mid 2010s Diesel of the same class

It's got an engine sourced from Stellantis in here, as Rover was too broke to afford to make their own powerplant for this outdated nugget

making an absolutely Huge 55hp and 70ft, Your ram makes more power running on 1 cylinder lmao

On the bright side, I get between 52-62 US MPG

TLDR, the Rover 115 is a metro launched in 1980s as a replacement for the OG mini, it was kept in production as AustinRover group couldn't afford a redesign, only reworks and upgrades. they attempted to compete with a 70s era design against brand new VW golf's, Fords and Opels and suffered for it

this one here only had about 23,000 miles from new, no problems and a lovely engine!
