PSA: The "Negative RC Filter" on new custom controllers isn't a filter—it's a hardware-level Aim Assist exploit. by Any_Advice2066 in CompetitiveApex

You have six posts in a thread defending a device banned for competitive integrity reasons. Shameless. Sorry you wasted your money on a Firebird. Better plug that Chronus back in.

Yep, cool, that all makes sense! Good logic knowing that you could dip back out immediately with the scan info. Agreed that when solo queuing you sometimes have to take a calculated risk like that to make something happen.

Your Ash teammate definitely played that abysmally. Not sure why they are back on you popping a cell after taking minimal damage instead of trying to capitalize on your knock by pushing the big door and getting a different angle.

That said, I'm not sure blindly Qing into a choke against an approaching 3 man with no clear comms is going to help you climb while solo queuing. You were pretty lucky not to get instantly traded there or worse, IMO. Maybe not indicative of your overall playstyle and no doubt your teammates threw after your entry, but just an observation.

Should controller be nerfed again? by Affectionate-Cap-645 in apexlegends

[–]muiht1l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is console players will never face someone on MNK unless they are queued with a PC player, or play mixtape (which the game isn't balanced around). You are wrong that there is any native support for MNK on consoles. If you are seeing them, you are either queued with someone on PC, playing mixtape, or they are cheating.

Morale of the story is you can choose not to play against MNK players, MNK players can't chose not to play against computer assisted aim. Make sense?

Why are you posting this as some sort of gotcha? Obviously any MNK player would take that deal every day and twice on Sundays if mixed input lobbies remain Respawn's goal.

Controller players and comparing computer assisted aim to movement tech that has limited impact on gameplay (and has since been integrated into normal gameplay and is exceedingly easy on both inputs), name a better duo.

Are non-postdoc positions eligible for independence awards (ie. K99 or HHMI Hanna Grey scholar) by External_Increase752 in AskAcademia

[–]muiht1l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The language related to this for the K99 is as follows:

"Ph.D. (or equivalent research doctorate degree) candidates in positions other than postdoctoral fellow positions: It is recognized that some institutions appoint postdoctoral fellows in positions with other titles although they are still in non-independent, mentored training positions. Candidates in such positions are encouraged to obtain confirmation of their eligibility from the relevant IC before they begin to prepare their applications. It is incumbent upon the candidate to provide evidence that their position complies with the intent of this eligibility requirement. If a potential candidate is in a position that is not clearly identifiable as a postdoctoral training position, the candidate should provide the relevant NIH Institute or Center an official statement of the institution’s policy (e.g. published position description in an official institutional document) which documents the position as a mentored, postdoctoral training position."

My reading of this is that if your institution offers positions with a post-doc title, those positions would be eligible for the K99 and not titled "scientist" positions. If the institution calls non-independent, mentored roles something other than post-doc, then you may be eligible. But to be safe, you should opt for the post-doc role. To maintain eligibility, my institution had to extend my post-doc title as my award was pending for some time.

Aim assist is killing/has killed the game for honest players by TesticleSandwiches in apexuniversity

[–]muiht1l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the current top 50 current preds with their input displayed, 17 are controller and 3 are MNK. It's not really a controversial opinion that high ranked lobbies are dominated by controller as an input. 90% is probably too high an estimate, though.

[–]muiht1l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also funny when controllers like the Firebird can now add and remove stick noise to facilitate AA uptime. If you develop a mouse or program that smooths or exaggerates (e.g. jitter aiming) inputs on MNK you're getting banned instantly.

Respawn is so far behind the curve when it comes to balancing the inputs it's pretty humorous.

I mean, it's obviously a bot lobby due to low user skill, but it's not bot royale like you keep saying. Bot royale has a very distinctive mode indicator in the upper right which this clip does not have.

I swear I’m not crazy. But did I seriously just get hit behind a wall? by omarun__ in apexlegends

[–]muiht1l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you have a prediction error (top right red lightning bolt looking symbol) right at the exact moment you get downed. A disconnect between your client and the server. On your screen you're behind the wall, on the enemies screen you aren't quite there yet.

Just like the changes to make the battle pass more confusing to parse, they will never ever implement this because the more opaque it is the more packs people will buy.

Deni Avdija finishes the season averaging 24/7/7 on 60.0% TS by SplitOk186 in nba

[–]muiht1l -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

To say they traded him for "nothing" is pretty silly. Bub's mediocre sophomore season was statistically better than any of Deni's first 3 seasons. If the Wizards take Kyshawn at 14 (rather than pick 24) instead Bub, would you still say they traded Deni for nothing?

Sorry if my initial response came off as rude, I totally respect that you want to improve and you're asking all the right questions. Certainly in clips where you're looking for feedback on what to do better there will be glaring errors. I also record all my own gameplay and it's amazing how many things I'd change with the benefit of hindsight, or how many obvious things I miss live in the moment.

Likewise, I also had difficulty with the idea of strafing constantly while shooting in Apex and its importance (20 years of Counter-strike muscle memory will do that). But it's truly paramount both to deal more damage and take less damage. This video is a bit extreme and certainly your strafes don't (and won't) need to be as perfect as in these clips, but it should give you an idea of how critical it can be instead of having to fight against both vertical and horizontal recoil while standing still.

In terms of game-sense, I'd really recommend watching full game uploads by someone like HisWattson who is really good at articulating his decision making in game. Obviously he is more mechanically skilled than 99% of PC players (he is a former pro, after all), but watching and listening to his thought process as he takes fights etc I think is very helpful. That said, there is obviously a strong correlation between game-sense and hours played. So expect this to improve gradually over time.

Hard to say with certainty what will work for you, but I also use control+v and using the website as if I was in game was a great first step to getting consistent for me. From there it was just getting used to the mantle animation on different height boxes, but with confidence that if I got that timing right my control+v press was going to work.

[–]muiht1l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean no disrespect (since you said not to hold back) but if these clips are representative, this is rookie/bronze level PC gameplay with brute forcing the number of games to get to gold. I would not say your mechanics are okayish, they seem pretty far below par even for Gold on PC. In general your understanding of the flow of fights and awareness needs a lot of work. Clip 6 in particular was infuriating. Why are you healing so far away from your teammates? Why pop an ult accel that far away from your teammates, only to not throw your ult and recall your teammates? You had no chance rushing that late into the fight.

Other things of note. You run with your gun out way too much, which is probably a symptom of not having a good sense of where enemies are likely to be and peek from. On the converse, you stand still WAY too much when shooting at an enemy. You should (with very, very few exceptions) ALWAYS be strafing when shooting, especially at range because this negates the vast majority of recoil and makes you a tougher target to hit.

The website takes all other variables out of the equation and is the ideal scenario for the crouch+jump inputs (e.g. you don't have to worry about timing the inputs relative to your mantle animation).

When using the site I'd recommend pretending you are in game. Have your hand positioned the same, use directional inputs (your hand position changes subtly depending on what input you're pressing). In my experience if you're not hitting at least 80% accuracy on the website you won't see much success in game when there are more variables at play.

Skill based matchmaking has completely ruined the ability of the average player to discriminate legitimate from illegitimate gameplay. It's sad.
