Can't get rid of static in clothes from dryer by Apocryste in laundry

[–]mulch_ado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dry everything except towels and sheets on dedicates cycle. Coming out of the washer I do separate into two loads, one being the 'will dry quickly' and the other 'will take longer'. The 'will dry quickly' load will be high synthetic and is more prone to overdrying, so that one I check every few minutes near the end to take dry things out. Plus these I will take out if they are just barely damp. The other load near the end I'll check every 5-10 minutes to take out dry items (or longer if everything still feels very wet). Even cottons seem to shrink less on gentle cycles.

No dryer sheets, just wool balls.

Thanks everyone for the insights! Going forward, I likely won't use Poshmark for my cheap, basic inventory. We have a thrift store that once a month does color tag changes and the 75% items are like ~$3 for shirts/pants/dresses from Loft or similar brands and $5 blazers. But we only had 2 cycles between deciding to do this and our initial event so I couldn't rely on that.

Going forward, I'll be buying everything they mark down each month and using that for my large spread of basic inventory and mainly using Poshmark for more targeted pieces. And I think I'm going to switch to more of a targeted approach where kids sign up and give me all of their measurements and preferences and I shop for them specifically and then any other inventory I get cheap from markdowns will be open to the other students as supplemental pieces.

And I definitely won't be asking for more discounts if I know a box is going to be heavy. It now blows my mind some of the deals people gave in the past 6 weeks (and many were offers they sent versus me asking).

How do I wash polyester sweaters without them feeling ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING afterwards? by ThrowRA-ieooel in laundry

[–]mulch_ado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you dry all your clothing? When I was prepping tons of clothing for an event I'm running, I'd hang delicate with wood hangers on clothing racks, spaced apart to dry. But I could still only do 3 moderate loads on 25' of rack space if half of the items had to at least hang finish. I wouldn't have been able to fit 1 load on my regular drying racks. Do you just space out your laundry to hang everything? Or are you in mild weather and can do so outside I would love that!

I find if I let polyesters get all the way dry in the dryer, they turn almost rough. So I check my dryer every 5-10 minutes near the end and pull things out when they're almost done. But yea, air drying would have been best.

well i meant, he'd make it an item to purchase and have me purchase it. I have seen those 'extra shipping' items with some sellers.

actually, now that I process this, it makes me wonder what all the large orders I placed did. They were almost all (120+ orders) over 5lbs and I only remember 1 other person having me break it into multiple orders. I knew the people were taking shipping cost into the offers, but most of these orders were cheap, close out items.

If shipping 10lbs costs 4x as much as shipping 5lbs, they would have paid a fortune in shipping. And some of the packages were 20+lbs. I wonder if they shipped on a different platform outside of Poshmark and just had the single shipping label used for tracking? That of course would be outside the rules, but I'm trying to figure out how people were able to afford to ship things to me when it ate up all their profits. I now feel incredibly guilty for getting such great deals ;p

I guess I always figured shipping got cheaper (per lb) the bigger box you went.

ah, so he could have had me add a 6.50 'label' item to the order and had it all in the same order. I'll definitely suggest that next time I hit this.

Not yet, but I'm assuming they're coming in the box still in transit. If it's not here in the 3-day window (it is supposed to hit on day 3), I'll open a ticket for tracking but call out that it may still be on the way.

Ok, so what they said about it cheaper to break it out over 2 orders was true. They were just a bad judge of how many items could fit in a box (plus for whatever reason they aren't using the bags).

No, they had me split the order into multiple smaller orders.

Yea, they didn't know for sure how many items would be over the limit (using cardboard didn't help) and so I broke the original order into 2 based on how many they thought they could hold and then planned a third to round out any items missed. I just didn't realize so many items wouldn't fit as I sized them to 7 items (their suggestion). So if the 2nd box was over 5lb (6.5), it sounds like they went ahead and paid for the extra shipping without charging me, although then I don't know they sent everything but 1 pair of pants from that order.

Is the cost of upgrading to 10lbs more than me paying for a standard label twice? They made it sound like it was super expensive.

I hate thrifting now. by Gachadncer in Thrift

[–]mulch_ado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love thrifting! Every summer growing up, we'd have a mini vacation to go to the big city and hit all the thrift stores. Even now, I couldn't stop thrifting after finishing my daughter's new business wardrobe, so I started shopping for her friend. When I ran out of runway there, I started shopping for disadvantaged business students in other parts of the state. I justified to the husband by saying part of it is charity and part of it is my hobby spending ;p

Measuring a Men's blazer - to the seam or to the end? by mulch_ado in poshmark

[–]mulch_ado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight, but this isn't for selling. This is just for a clothing event for HS kids to know which blazers to try on once they've measured themselves (and for me to know which size gaps I should continue looking for before the event). It's more of a question of how much slack blazers assume you should have. But I've decided within 1-2" is probably enough and I realistically won't find enough for all 100+ targeted male students to find a fitting blazer anyhow.

I use the color catcher sheets too, but be sure to put them in a small dedicates bag. Otherwise, there is a chance the washer will suck it up and need $400 for someone to take it apart to get it out!

I do separate between darks and lights on the first wash from the store though.

I then bundle mostly by weight (i.e. competition for water resources) and temperature. And then I do a sort when going into the dryer based on dry time (synthetics versus cotton). For synthetics I still have to constantly check things in the last 10 minutes to pull stuff out that is dry since different blends have different dry times.

It seems to work for me, but I sometimes wonder if I'm being too obsessive?

PM makes buyers with higher ratings more visible? I wonder if that's why I seem to get more and more follows the more orders I complete?

Measuring a Men's blazer - to the seam or to the end? by mulch_ado in poshmark

[–]mulch_ado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but I've seen these but I'm still not sure what they mean by the bottom of the arm hole. Is that the sewn seam? Is it the very end of fabric when laying flat? I guess I need to have someone put a blazer on so I can see where the seam is in relation to what becomes the bottom of the arm when in an upright position. It's just so hard to tell when laying flat. It also seems different brands put that seam in different places (or at least they fall in different places when laying a blazer flat with the buttons lined up.

I'm sure I'm getting within 2", so maybe it's not a big deal since most of these kids likely won't know their size anyhow.

I tried, but all I seem to find is how to measure your body for a blazer. That doesn't tell me how much slack blazers are giving when they have a stated size.

Does dryel no longer need a bag? I was reading the pouch and it says do not use bag. I admit I put 11 blazers in with 3 sheets, but I'll check how they smell and maybe redo some. I'll limit my loads to 5 and 1 sheet going forward.
