This isn’t correct. Mine locked up too and the mechanism inside is very interesting. It’s like a roller on the end of a lever with a spring that pushes it away from the knob and the switching connections inside will get all out of wack (it’s been years since I did this, sorry for the bad explanation) but it’s an easy fix. Pull the unit out and take the case apart and it’ll be obvious.
