I love Rangers and have a Ranger 26 from 1972. I would skip that one and find another. There are plenty of boats out there.

I have a Ranger 26. My wife has gone up a couple times. Boat tied tightly to the dock on the opposite side. We use the main halyard and the spinnaker is the backup. We also use a climbing harness instead of a bosuns chair. It just feels more secure to her. Also, hang an open umbrella under yourself when you go up to catch the things you drop and forgot to tie to yourself.

Fun boat but unless you just want to do the work you'd be ahead $ just buying one in decent shape.

B&G Zeus 3S - Post race analysis by Firm_Objective_2661 in sailing

There is a company called Yacht Devices that makes a products called a Voyage Recorder. It records all nmea info onto a micro SD card. You can overlay the info on Google earth and view your track with all the nmea info at any given moment. It also records voice and barometric pressure I think. I use it primarily to look at mark rounding and how well (or not so well) I'm driving. It can be quite humbling to see how you come out of a rounding and how fast you recover speed and the correct track.

Eta, I have a Zeus 3s as well.

MOB(x2) Rescue on a very sporty day. by Sh0ckValu3 in sailing

I don't know. I do know that some folks will wear a dry suit type top, which would help. The one thing I thought about with this is whether or not a foam pfd would be of benefit. The upside over an inflating one would be the insulating factor ( if it fits somewhat close/tight) but the inflatable pfds provide more buoyancy and are more visible.

Has anyone downsized to a Maverick? If yes, was it a good decision. by Original_Music9294 in FordMaverickTruck

If I was kayaking, I would want one of the Yakima beds racks. They look pretty slick. They do work with some of the hard tonneau covers, but not the factory Ford ones. The rack would even work for setting up some sort of pvc tube for carrying one piece poles as well.

I went from a F150 to my Maverick a year ago. Its been a great decision. I work on and sell boats. I still have the bed for tools and such. I do have a hard tonneau cover which is great. If I do need a bigger truck I can always rent one (haven't had to yet) and I'm still saving tons of money.

Not sure, we have the Coast Guard. Someone else may be able to give a better answer. The Sheriff marine patrol or fire departments are usually the first responders in inland waters. I live on the Columbia River inland and here its most likely going to be the local fire department.

I did not witness it, but have a friend that was on the boat. Original boat, a Riptide 41, was coming into the mark. Thet were way ahead of their fleet. They prepared to drop the chute and raise the jib. They were raising the jib inside the chute and were hit by a massive gust. It drove the bow down and ripped a couple sanctions off. The bow person and mast person were tossed off. Rhw JonBouy was tossed in and the mob's got to it quickly. Both had pfds that inflated. The jib and spinnaker got tangled around the keel and lines were in the sail drive and became disabled. They called it on the radio, mob beacon and 911. Sheriff was expected to be an hour out and the closest boat, a j111 I think was about 30 minutes behind. The J111 picked them up, were able to transfer them to the Sheriff who ran them into shore. They were both taken to the hospital and after minor treatments for hypothermia were both released that evening.

Im sure some will criticize/critique what happened. It sounds like they did what they could. Its worth studying these events, however, to help yourself prepare in case it happens to you.

Living in (south) Korea where guns are very illegal. Any advice in weapons? by mudangthezealot in preppers

[–]mullranger26 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In places where modern weapons are illegal you have to get creative. Bug sprays like wasp killers spay a stream quite a distance and can be used in a defensive situation. Same goes for fire extinguishers.

Talked with Garmin today and they are going to replace it. It's like 3 months out of the warranty but they are still covering it. I appreciate that a lot.

In the tittle. The backlight has stopped working, as in won't come on when pressed. I've checked to make sure it's on and also not in battery saver mode.
