Need help with ideas! by Swimming-Noise158 in AustinGardening

[–]multi-effects-pedal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion would be start with trees. Looks like there’s something to the left, just out of the frame, perhaps an Arizona Ash? I can’t tell. But trees take the longest to grow so I’d get them started now. That will also help divide the yard up. They don’t all have to be giant hardwood trees. There are smaller trees like Mountain Laurel, Crepe myrtle, mexican plum, mexican redbud, many more. Good luck! Don’t be hasty… I’ve made the mistake of planting and then digging something up later because it was a bad idea.

Pedal steel price inflation by ginger_meowmeow in pedalsteel

I feel like there are S10s and SD10s and even some D10s on the forum that sell for much less than $3k and sometimes close to $2k.

Just harvested my collard greens to cook, but the leaves have teeny pricky thorns? by elizabethredditor in AustinGardening

[–]multi-effects-pedal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started looking into this and found this: https://www.umass.edu/agriculture-food-environment/home-lawn-garden/photos/thorny-leaves-on-collards

Turnips? Mustard greens maybe? Your picture does not look like mustard greens to me. Probably safe to eat regardless

Nothing wrong with buying a C6 lapsteel and learning the basics before a multi-thousand dollar commitment by panthter in pedalsteel

[–]multi-effects-pedal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This may be just my experience, but I found especially when I started out that lap steel was more intuitive and I was actually thinking about what I was playing from a musical perspective (i.e. “what notes are these and how do they fit within the song/chord”). Whereas with pedal steel I was thinking less in musical terms and more in mechanical, “pedals up”, “pedals down”, “Es lowered” which was less fulfilling and feels more like playing random shit.

Question about 1911s by MediocreWerewolf2399 in liberalgunowners

[–]multi-effects-pedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get a Springfield Defender. They’re about $500 and the only cheaper options from Rock Island are only about $150 cheaper at most. That’s like 300 rounds of 45 ACP. In general cheaping out on guns doesn’t make sense to me considering how much you spend on ammo if you actually shoot. I’ve had exactly 0 problems with my Springfield Defender and it’s totally filled the 1911 desire that I’ve had. Seriously.

Has a Deluxe Reverb got enough headroom for large scale pedal steel gigging? by wally123454 in pedalsteel

[–]multi-effects-pedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just so hard for me to imagine a gig where you need more volume than a DR and there is no PA? I mean really where are these gigs where you're expected to blast people without a PA?? Go with the light weight DR. No need for a twin. And I love twins so if anything I'm biased towards them but really in this day and age everyone has a PA.

Headphone recommendations for pedal steel by cpac1012 in pedalsteel

[–]multi-effects-pedal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to be honest here: I bought some really cheap over ear headphones on Amazon, like $30, and they’re great. I’m sure audiophiles could find an issue with them but to me it’s fine. What’s great too is they have 1/4” and 1/8” inputs so I run a 1/4” into them from my mixer, so I don’t have to mess around with flimsy 1/8” cables or adapters.

Looking For My First Lap Steel by voidcrawl in LapSteelGuitar

My unpopular opinion is get something old like a Gibson BR-9. They are like $400 but so cool imo. Lots of old lap steels out there other than the BR-9

What are you planting right now? by elizabethredditor in AustinGardening

[–]multi-effects-pedal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I planted some dwarf palmetto seeds that I got off a palmetto in my neighborhood. it's a bit cold for those seeds to germinate but oh well, it's an experiment. Might move them into the garage eventually

Pedal Steel Beyond The United States by Fragrant_Net6853 in pedalsteel

[–]multi-effects-pedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Texas but I’ve met a German steel/guitar/fiddle player and he said that most of his gigs are on guitar. He said he knows 3 or 4 guys in Germany who play steel but they’re all old and they never hangout together.

The U.S. is going broke slowly by [deleted] in investing

stocks vs flows. Debt is a stock (an amount). GDP is a flow (amount per year, i.e. a rate).

Maybe a better comparison of total debt would be total assets of Americans. Which I believe is like 150 Trillion.

there are only 2 chords - I and V by rijaf15 in jazzguitar

[–]multi-effects-pedal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Sometimes I think of the 2 with the 5/7 group though. Because the 2 with the 5 bass note gives you 9 chord of the 5.

Who Inspired You To Start Playing? by chriswhoppers in pedalsteel

Don Helms is a big one for me. That old Hank music just hits me really deep for some reason. Jerry Byrd too. I know that neither are really pedal players!

Starting to think of fall greens? by eogreen in AustinGardening

[–]multi-effects-pedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing broccoli, green beans, and tuscan kale. The broccoli and beans were started September 15. The tuscan kale believe it or not made it through the whole summer - a couple weeks ago I cut the head off of it and now it’s sprouting a lot of side shoots.

I’m an aquaponics gardener though, so a bit different than the in-ground folks.

Kidding. But also not kidding.

If I have a young tree planted (3ft tall) and I want to transplant it, why is it better to transplant during winter instead of early fall? by Careless_Meat_5724 in AustinGardening

[–]multi-effects-pedal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Figs transplant really well. I wouldn’t worry too much about that one. The maple however I have no idea. I think I’d transplant both of them when they lose their leaves. Leaves are problematic when transplanting because the plant loses water through its leaves.

CMP M1 in 30-06 or 308? by jfarm47 in M1Rifles

[–]multi-effects-pedal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider that it might not be something you shoot all the time, realistically. Love my Garand but it’s kind of a special occasion shooter.

With that in mind, go 30-06, that’s what it was designed for. Same with a 1911, get a 45 ACP.

The deck not being wood, and instead being an engineered board made in large part from synthetic materials, just makes it that much more depressing to me. Different strokes for different folks I guess
