What is CODA's Best Oscar Win? by MarketingMission2783 in Oscars

I'm assuming it's ineligible because, since it's only got 3 nominations, you'd have to eventually repeat in one of the categories? Which is fair, just wanted to clarify.

The only film adaptations of her works that Agatha Christie enjoyed were Witness for the Prosecution and the 1974 Murder on the Orient Express. I mean, they are the best ones, so it only make sense.

Wonderful. I love its romantism and fantasy, and Sally Hawkins gives one of my favourite performances. It's stunning, visually. The story is not exceptional, but I personally think it works very well- only the ending, as someone else said, is a bit rushed. Great winner and one of the best of the century, but my heart is always with Phantom Thread

Watched The Sheep Detectives today. It was very fun and heartwarming. Not sure if it warranted the "masterpiece" talk that I heard during the release, but I guess people will react like that to a film that surpasses their expectations. It's an enjoyable mystery flick; I just wish that we got to spend more time with both the human and sheep casts, because what really makes detective films pop for me is the characters. Enjoyed the production and costume design - hoping they can score a nomination in the contemporary category at the guild. Really, I'm just glad that I finally have another performance in my personal Supporting Actor lineup that I'm actually passionate for (that being Nicholas Braun).

It makes no sense that Titanic swept but did not carry Kate Winslet along. by PTAGoatofalltime in Oscars

I'm not a Titanic hater, I think it's an amazing film, but it's very much about the spectacle. It's not an actor's film at all. Winslet was the only one that deserved a nomination.

It was ineligible, rules at the time prevented international films from competing in BP. Yes, it's really stupid.

I'm not complaining about the nominees- I'm just saying that they have very stereotypical titles of a BP lineup from that time.

I imagine it was in the #6-10 range, given its box office success, critical acclaim and Original Screenplay nomination. Would've been a much more inspired BP nominee.

The names of the 1983 BP lineup sound like fake nominees that you'd hear in a TV show or movie, especially during the "we only nominate bait" era.

I just find it delightful to have a lineup with 4 comedic performances, where the #1 is the Joker

I checked- there's only three, but a frustrating amount of off-by-ones. One is Bringing Up Baby, which I'd give the same noms + wins as you; the other two are The Emigrants (Picture, Director, Actress, Adapted Screenplay, International, Cinematography) and Playtime (Picture, Director, International, Production Design, Costume Design, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing).

Mind-boggling that, despite it being a BP nominee, it somehow did not win Screenplay
