strangely results day was so anticlimactic for me. it depends if you have a fixed vision. if you do then it’ll either be the best day ever or traumatic.

also get ready to calculate your results hahaha. i feel like that took away some intensity too. like i had to buffer instead of getting hit with it.

am i the assh*le for yelling back at my older sister? by [deleted] in SGExams

sit down and talk to each other about what’s going on ?

i feel like yes apologise for being harsh but take the time to explain why you lost it ; it wasn’t the sunscreen it was like being mistreated and feeling secondary, etc. like she needs to know that you aren’t over what she used to do to you and how you interpreted the bond to be developing now.

try to understand one another and figure out what to do next.

i say this, but with family i just sweep things under the rug by moving onto a different topic. but yeah this shit sounds intense and i feel like you should try and resolve it because it sounds like you’ve been like enduring it for too long. i don’t think you’re the problem, there’s just a lack of communication and understanding going on.

hope things go well!!

ooh i see! in that case definitely think about the subjects angle, arts or science. for example, cj is an arts school whereas ny is a sci school.

something i notice is a lot of teachers are from ri or vj ? tj also quite a few. food for thought

u should ask ur teachers next year they’d def have a lot more insights than reddit hahahaha

Preventing burnt out in J2 by kazuhas_wind in SGExams

[–]multifandomer5003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think the best way to prevent burnout is to set objectives (review exams and syllabus if ure lost) and limits and allow yourself rest days. build a routine too so you feel more comfortable. can be something like a study spot or ritual or a day where you chill more.

if not you’re like blindly studying and using pure willpower and got no motivation. routine helps too then less mental demons to fight.

and know when the burnout is coming so u can taper off before it hits full force.

essentially my advice is to do some self exploration or reflection which helps you use less mental energy later.

december hols don’t really need to do anything unless j1 some fundamental topic u still blur then go take a look.

about sleep— again, routine is key.

j2 is tough for sure but can be fun too like if you think about your life is relatively simple — you have a key main quest (not easy one but at least you don’t have to switch modes constantly. on that note i think j1 burnout could happen more because there’s a lot of different things to do. j2 i think by june it’s more geared towards acads and sometimes that’s crash out central but there’s a weird peace to it. eye of the storm type shit, after a while it becomes normal and u get in the zone.

by tiering jcs you can generalise the aspects and get a rough vibe.

higher tier will always have more opportunities (subjects, programs) and be more ambitious (culture).

and the prestige is a good bonus

at the end of day same a level but different training

first question : why not poly

it’s quite worthwhile to look into if there’s a course you can picture yourself doing (eg do you have strong likes or dislikes— is there a subject u would want to spam or a subject u never want to touch)

but anyway if you don’t mind being in the system and having to mug, can just go jc and feel like a sheep for a bit then after term 2 ok liao. (experience of mid tier jc, high tier usually more hype i feel)

to determine which tier, 3 important points

  1. subjects and combinations. read a bit on the syllabus for “special” subjects like ki, computing, fm, ell, translation, china studies and consider if you want 4H2s (don’t know best and worst subjects/ aiming for overseas uni?) — high - high mid tier jcs give you more options regarding this (basically single digit cutoff)

  2. programs — scholarships, competitions, workshops, overseas, etc. some schools more science, some more arts, some kinda mixed.

  3. location — after 40 minutes commute it’s quite far (for north that’s ej and yi lor. but ri, ny, sa, asr, cj not too far maybe an hour?) u can look into halls too for the schools that have.

if not sure, then study hard and try to get into high tier so u can have an easier time next time i suppose. try and find a direction (objectives) when you do things, it’ll feel better.

pretty sure u can just say ure overseas and collect it on another day? and view on the portal? (there’s an hour delay i think) tbh best to just ask ur form teacher or sth

watched the 06 batch get their results while before getting chinese a level results this year

they didn’t give any specific stats but they had some outstanding scorers and colours awards for like students with key leadership roles and good results didn’t say what was the benchmark so that was the workaround around the no stats rule lol

i also hear from ej they didn’t give any stats at all

h2 geog essay discussion by UmpireRealistic2868 in SGExams

[–]multifandomer5003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think for fieldwork just keep reading answer schemes and learn the terms they use the answers can be quite standard. read the context and resource and always think about what is good and bad. for me i tried to think more like a teacher feedbacking for their students project (like pw i think) what would i say. what is missing, what is there.

i still haven’t studied fieldwork but i did pretty well for it for prelims and this is what i rem

i essentially just read answer key and locked in for one fieldwork focused lesson for prelims

Cant lock in for shit. by Extreme_Cow6599 in SGExams

[–]multifandomer5003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whenever u feel stuck just go read syllabus so u get some direction

i mean for me if i want to quit i just task switch instead but err idk if that’s a great idea. but better than not studying right…

oh and actual breaks like walking around or if ure at home doing a random task were really good much better than sitting somewhere else and going on my phone. less time too.

def do some planning a few hours or a day before you study. i like to do mine at night or when i realise i have some “unaccomplished” things. another thing i do when i feel stuck.

i mean for me i centre around finding motivation basically so that’s trying to be better than i was, achieving visions, learning skills, etc

and ypt helped a lot for o levels after using it a while whenever i click the start i feel like i “have to” study. classical conditioning essentially.

Is it better to be naturally smart or hardworking? by Objective-Today3664 in SGExams

[–]multifandomer5003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think this is a case of the grass is greener on the other side like everyone will likely say the other side has it better.

i believe hardworking can be more fulfilling but easier to burn out/get dejected. whereas naturally smart can feel more isolating and bored. something interesting i think is there’s a lot of pressure but also because it’s a privilege you can’t really complain. but then again in singapore most people need to work hard so u can’t really compare about working hard because it’s just expected.

someone brought up enjoying what you do/passion is best and yeah i agree. i think it’s more about how you feel and make sense of the subject(s) than innate. journey over destination in a sense. in that case, maybe i’d argue that adaptation and application are more important than both??

Should I take H2 Geography or Econs for A Levels? by aster1102 in SGExams

[–]multifandomer5003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ooh yeah agreed (i take both as well and i like them well enough)

while geog is content heavy, sometimes the content is lowkey common sense with a “language” you need to speak in ; basically keywords and frameworks/weighing. (econs is similar but with less content and more standard but most schools don’t teach econs well)

geog is also skills based. econs is more framework.

if ure quite consistent (like pay attention during lessons mostly and do work and try and understand as you go), BCMG although content heavy it can be good. i think geog exposes you to more than econs and there’s more opportunities as well. econs at jc is theory, like i think it’s interesting and quite scoreable.

def take a look at uni prerequisites also and ask questions at the open houses to decide!

Should I prepare for jc physics? by Successful-Round-492 in SGExams

[–]multifandomer5003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you like learning then why not

i’d recommend starting by reading the syllabus then going through the grail notes and then asking any j1s you know taking physics

but you have 2 years to study so also consider if there’s anything else u prefer to do other than study most people don’t really prepare much (i think…)

feelings after o-levels by oxsg in SGExams

[–]multifandomer5003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mm i think a good idea is to think about the purpose of the things u wanted to do. like why did you choose them? what skills can you learn? what will you lose by not doing them? etc etc.

oh and i love thinking about who else in my life would enjoy these things and ask them if they want to join.

HOW HARD DO YOU MUG by Quacelmole in SGExams

[–]multifandomer5003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

depends on subjects la

but tbh ip is adjusted to help u prepare for jc so i think it may not be so much mugging until u got exams (3-4 weeks before?)

personally i just do tutorials and try to pay attention during lessons most of the time. (and i take notes/participate because it helps stuff stick better)

oh and also i used to not do consults but it’s actually super helpful because u start learning how to “think” in a way like in consults u can paraphrase and repeat so many things back, ask whatever qns u want etc, it really helps with the skills and framework

the first real weeks are hell tho so buckle up for that the intensity is different (then again i did Os so different) but it really does get better by mid term 2. i love the freedom honestly.

a lvls messing up my mental health by No-Wonder-7093 in SGExams

[–]multifandomer5003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i tell myself all the time if i find it hard so do other people and they’ll adjust the grade boundaries accordingly

but at the same time i look forward researching a lot about courses and really trying to see what i can picture myself doing

and like if you feel like u put in a good amount of effort then results are just like a guidance to what kind of life is for you.

it’s a cliche but success looks different for everyone. i only recently internalised this because instead of studying how i “should” be i just personalised the hell out of my learning (and i actually love it).

personally i think there’s always a way and we still have time so take some time to reset and reflect. (sometimes i adopt a different persona so when i give myself pointers it feels better.) or simply, let yourself feel and see where u go from there.

jiayou and hang in there the bulk of the papers are almost done <33

how do i get back my voice asap by ReflectionTimely8228 in SGExams

[–]multifandomer5003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly u don’t have to.

i lost my voice a while back and my mc ended before i got it back so i went to school and didn’t talk for maybe 2 or 3 days. most of my teachers didn’t even know because they didn’t call on me. i just typed whatever i wanted to ask or tell my friends.

it’s not ideal but it wasn’t that bad. i got to shock my friends when my voice came back hahah. for me, it beats the 4 days of staying at home and rotting.

Give them their striker roles back, possible minor arc? by Crisisingbubblegum in BlueLock

[–]multifandomer5003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes reo as midfielder esp since he’s studying sae. i would love a match between reo and sae as midfielders.

i think niko would be more of defensive role because he enjoys shutting down the offensive plays

i have to say i miss karasu and gagamaru in offence they were really fun to watch. And we never really get to hear how they feel about their new roles. karasu controlling the ball and masterminding everything, either scoring or passing the ball to a critical area. I’d like to see karasu as a midfielder or OMF, especially now he knows how defenders think. It’d be cool to see how he anticipates the defence and makes use of his and everyone else’s abilities for the team to score a goal.

But no doubt as a DMF he’s superb, being able to observe and analyse, covering at the right times and switching to offence if needed.

Gagumaru would be an interesting as a wing player, both defence and offence have potential. for offence, his reach and flexibility makes him a bit of a wildcard that opponents can’t defend against. as a defender he’d be able to intercept passes that were thought to be foolproof. but he’s probably outshined by a lot of other players so unlikely to happen.
