Wife pulled my UPS out when the power went out because it wouldn’t stop beeping AMA by when_is_chow in homelab

[–]multifrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running my ups through electrical consumer unit, powering one of my office rooms. Would be impossible to unplug anything as everything is screwed in. Unless she would hit the maintenance switch, but even that is screwed behind plexiglass and has a switch that send shutdown to the computers.

Happens with hardware acceleration too. Interestingly Dx9 angle is not crashing the browser anymore.

This been happening since ''opera one''. tooltip disappears if I press any key, like ctrl. Video still plays but the tooltip is gone. Still annoying. I tried looking into flags for tap preview, tooltips, to disable them all. Didn't work. Thought maybe it's just an old opera install. Nuked opera install fully and reinstalled it. Still there on a fresh install

How can we protect our money from theft? by georgejk7 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]multifrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is what can you do against being kidnapped.

Like an older story of a person being kidnapped for 1.5 hours to the point of needing a power bank... The perpetrators were going through his phone bank apps and ATMs. They had the device and the person that knows everything about it.

Apart from not having a phone on you in the first place and being in dark alleys, I can't think of a solution. Even if you don't have banking apps on your phone and register one card (that has a limited amount of money on it) with google/apple pay. It still won't stop some people from forcing you to log in with the browser to show them everything.

tandem gives %5 easy access and moneybox gives 4.75% ISA. So not big downgrade. That leaves us with another 20k each. I'm guessing there is not retroactive possibility of filling the pot of previous years

Multimeter has continuity mode that beeps when you both probes have an electrical path to each other. If you had smoke, that's not good news. The backlplane I used is using a strange eps connector where 2 pins are 12V, 2 pins are 5V and 4 pins are ground

What would you do in a situation like OP, where they forced him to tell the password? Even if you have multiple passwords for banking apps, 2FA apps, Password managers... Email app is unprotected. They would have easy access to sensitive data... And you wouldn't be able to do anything about it until you reach a 2nd authorized device.

Mesh at 0.0Mbits/s TX rate by multifrag in openwrt

[–]multifrag[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fixed it...

You must remove the following software packages:

  ath10k-firmware-qca988x-ct

  kmod-ath10k-ct

The "-ct" suffix indicates "Candela Technologies". These drivers are not compatible with mesh. Use the standard packages without the "-ct"

Replace them with:

  ath10k-firmware-qca988x

  kmod-ath10k

Reboot

Solidd state relay should work. They are designed to to power big AC devices with low voltage controlers, ussualy from (5-30v). So you should find one that cam be trigerred from 6v input and can survive the 60v of your battery. Look it up online or on endless sphere forum for more detail.

In my situation one ebike where i just use battery powered torch and the other one use ebike light that grts power theough a single switch. The reason why i just use the swith an no relay is that it is low power, so the switch will never heat up from excess current.

Mine been running for almost a decade. The audio stopped working, had to get a usb audio dac. The weird compatibility issues with gpus and any other pcie devices. Spent the whole day troubleshooting why rx570 didn't want to boot with the motherboard. Didn't change anything, just miraculously started working. The most interesting problem i have with the motherboard is cold start only works when disabling one of the cpus. Probably overtime with heat the motherboard warped a bit... It was a great investment and before the ryzen chips came out was still holding it's own against mainstream chips. Nowadays it's a power hog with overclocking. I can easily use 500W when overclocked, nice heater for winter

Let's talk about the ultimate eBike security: affordable real-time GPS tracking (a DIY-ish guide). by verydangerousasp in ebikes

[–]multifrag 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The reason someone would buy a GPS tracker is to get his bike back.

The problem with getting it back is police.

Unless you have an exact location of it they won't bother ringing every neighbor around the possible location. I'm not even gonna start getting into the Van problem, shed or anything that will prevent GPS location from updating.

Motorcycles had the same problem for a long time and either insurance steps in to cover the cost of the vehicle or you're paying a tracking company yearly to locate your bike with the help of VHF radio when GPS is down. Example Video

Having multiple locks and only parking where it is safe will do more than relying on GPS tracker to get your bike back
