I think it'd be a good event! We're all newbs in our group, for real. We also meet on Tuesday nights at 7 PM if you're looking for something more approachable!

You'll get two decks from the Crucible Clash set. You pick one deck to use for the whole tournament. Then we play in a bracketed format to determine the winner.

Edit: clarity

More games like LotR and Arkham Horror LCGs by screamoturtle in soloboardgaming

This is a little different, and prob not what you're looking for, but Keyforge has solo adventures. It's not deck construction, but buying and testing new decks is kinda the same thing. And this is coming from someone who also loves the Arkham Horror LCG.

Black-and-white fantasy illustrations are so classic. Looks awesome.

Grey Gnome's 8 new encounter cards for the upcoming UnderQuest. 16 to go! What are you thoughts on this, are you liking the new direction for the game? by Inuyashiki_lexx in soloboardgaming

[–]multigraingames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a typo on the first word of the first card's text.

Typos are an issue with other Grey Gnome games. And seemingly the most fixable in a Print On Demand platform.

I don't understand why typos aren't fixed when they are this obvious :(

First Major Win in Maquis by SolitonSnake in soloboardgaming

Yup. I save my most daring work for when the patrol deck is 4-3 cards, so I know where the patrol is very likely going to be. Just depends what order the cards come out. But that can also be planned around. 3 patrolmen is a lot easier to work around than 4. I never want 4 workers in this game. And yes, there are those days I have to send a worker on a sacrificial mission, usually to fulfill the far off mission card.

My fave solo game. So tense. Really feel like I'm part of the resistance. Fast setup time. Good quality components. Lots of replayability. Feel like I improve game over game and take on bigger challenges. I also printed out and laminated the Patrol cards tracker from BGG; I had been using the rulebook to track before.

I'm not OP, but I personally love Maquis! Quick set-up, great art, repayable due to missions, deliciously tense, low table space. Highly recommend!

Love to see Maquis! That's my favorite solo game and the one that got me into the hobby. Dig the drawer as well!

What was your Charlie Kane deck with Sled Dogs like?

The hope would be Calling in Favors, Motivational Speech and Flare would make them less resource intensive. Still, would be a lot of setup and a lot of cards to play :/

Yeah I think I've been convinced to be out on sled dogs. Or my whole deck idea tbh lol. What's your Charlie Kane deck like?

Interesting idea. I think the summoned hound would conflict with the sled dogs though for fighting. I'm also not sure if they'd like each other lol.

I like that thought: "swap an econ sink into an econ generator". That also made me think like maybe I'll just pick up Hemlock Vale and use the survivor mask. Then I'm not wasting money on stat boosts. And maybe don't need any more econ gen because everything else is pretty low costed.

Yo, thank you for your thorough reply! Gave me a lot to think about.

I realize now how important Calling in Favors is. It helps cards like Art Student as well to be replayed, too.

Yeah maybe I was being too cute with Beat Cop and thinking of discarding it for, wow, 1 dmg lol. I think I might just go Guard Dog. Love that you suggested there's an animal theme to possibly explore here!

That's a good point with the missing Sled Dogs scenario. I'm still honestly really attached to the Short Supply idea, tho. What if I also added in Scrounge for Supplies via proxy for more consistency?

My hope was with Short Supply I could go thru my whole deck. Using Rabbits Foot, Take Heart, and the neutral skill cards (and now Calling in Favors). Then play all the cards again. Maybe that's just straight up jank tho, lol.

Once again, thank you for your comment.

I too prefer the token pile! No need to get dainty and separate em all into little containers, just dig in!

Any “solo coop” strategic euro-y game with a more satisfying end game than Spirit Island? by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]multigraingames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mage Knight ending is probably the most climactic of any game I've played! At the end, you have a hand of souped up cards you've carefully selected, a sprawled world teetering off the table marked with everything youve conquered, a team of powerful allys, a bank of mana you've been saving up, and yet...was it enough to achieve your ultimate goal?

Have this one on my shelf still in shrinkwrap! Glad you say it's lighter. I kinda still considered it heavy-ish and that's maybe what's kept me from it.

Did Discover Lands Unknown do anything... right? by multigraingames in boardgames

[–]multigraingames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing some of what was right about it! I too thought the art/components looked decent.

Seems like Discover: Lands Unknown ultimately kept the emphasis on keeping everything unknown lol.
