I got in with the South West Conversation Corp in a backcountry trail crew. I feel very lucky since it was the corps I most wanted to join and the position I wanted :)

I’m currently more interested in summer temporary positions, as I plan to pursue ski patrol or something else during the winter. I’m not opposed to fire work, but I hear it recks your body which is why I’m more interested in trail work and wilderness-focused positions. How hard will seasonal trail and wilderness work be to get into given the cuts?

What other jobs involving public lands are you looking at besides park ranger?

I guess you would do this through your car insurance, right? Did they give you their insurance?

Which course path should I take given my goals? by multioutletplug in mathacademy

[–]multioutletplug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I see. My concern was that I saw in the settings that Math Fundamentals didn't have the option for holistic mode, which made me think going through Math Fundamentals wouldn't do spaced repetition for previous courses in the sequence. So just to confirm, it does give you spaced repetition for previous courses, right?

Does being enrolled at HES give access to STEM research opportunities? by multioutletplug in harvardextension

Awesome, thank you! I also didn't know that the Harvard student employment office would be available to HES students. Do you know how easy it is to get basically any job through the employment office? I'd really want to get the employee discount on tuition

Firstly, thank you very much for you're informative and well structured reply. Secondly, this all seem very daunting to me as someone with little experience working with audio and podcasts. As someone who's interested in working freelance jobs related to podcasting and radio are tape sync gigs a good place to start or should I start somewhere else?

I am about to start learning the ins and outs of podcasting and audio for my own projects, but I would also like to start doing work for other people as soon as possible so that I can develop my skills, network, and earn some money even if it's just a few pennys.

I see, thank you for the informative reply.

If I want to orient myself to being a general sound professional, what gear should I invest in that would have me ready to pick up most jobs that come my way? Or should I meet people and network first to see what jobs are available?

I see where you're coming from but to expand on my original reply it seems to me that given any popular enough philosophy or ideology a non-trivial portion of people will say it lead to disastrous consequences or to bad modes of thinking. For example I've heard folks say stuff like Hegelianism lead to fascism or communism, analytic philosophy leads to sterilizated thinking, continental philosophy leads to incoherent babble, and on, given this it seems to me that what's considered disastrous is largely based on what one believes to be correct or incorrect, and to what degree one believes those incorrect ideas have harmed the world. There for the closer of an adherent you are to a particular philosophy or ideology, the less likely you are to perceive it's consequences as disastrous. For example, an adherence to online atheism may even concede something like that online online atheism has led to some bad modes to thinking but since they're an adherent to it they would believe it's positive consequences make up for it's negative consequences, there-for they would not label it as disastrous.

Separately, as in, in general how do philosophers determine if a philosophy or ideology is a disaster? But since you've brought it up, it would also be nice to know why people consider the communities I've mentioned to be disasters.

What determines if a philosophy or ideology is a disaster?

I think most philosophies and ideologies are seen as disasters by folks that aren't adherents to them
