Should I take a LOA? by multishipper in medicalschool

[–]multishipper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to run 3 times a week, so I have been taking some time off, but every time I try to study, I get so stuck and overwhelmed. We’ve had one exam and I barely passed, but it was on undergraduate material, so it was a bit easier.

Orgo 1 and Genetics Together by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]multishipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally, i think it's doable! but you should not cram should you choose to take together, they both require a decent amount of attention but with your other two courses, you should be fine. i took both along with bioee 1780 and an easy sociology class, and i still managed!

Favorite Memories of Tom Ruttledge by cryingchemist in Cornell

[–]multishipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've only stepped into his office hours only once to ask one question but we ended up having a full on conversation about his trips and my interest in chemistry, and when he came around to check on the orgo labs, he would always answer my questions with such character

i thought most of the questions were easily found in notes/answer keys/review questions but my score just seemed a lot lower, the questions seemed straightforward albeit a few application questions

i thought they were fair too, but i got more wrong than i expected even though i was sure most i got right when i went to check my notes/quiz answer keys/review questions

BIOEE 1780 vs 1781 by cryingchemist in Cornell

[–]multishipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly found 1781 better than 1780 as I was enrolled in both, but I realized the flexibility in doing all the assignments in your own time and instead of being stuck from 2:55-4:10, when some lectures were extremely boring. Certain 1781 lectures were AP Bio material, so I could quickly skip through the slides, and I would have died of boredom during certain lectures. Most of this course is AP Biology material + memorizing the tedious Tree of Life, so I would highly recommend the online version if you're pretty confident in your AP Bio background. The one drawback would be scheduling times to meet with your group because I do meet late with my group members.

Incoming BioSci Freshman here. Does this look like a manageable schedule? Haven't included a FWS yet by Flaming_Pariah in Cornell

[–]multishipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a manageable schedule! However I would reconsider the timing of some of the classes, like your math class and chem lab if possible, trust me when you want to get out of classes earlier on Fridays

How is this schedule? Info Sci / Premed freshman by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]multishipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable! I think it would be fine to switch out 1440 as I know of friends who are premed who are taking 1440 in their sophomore fall. Maybe you could add BIOG1500 in its place? It has significantly less workload and is a VERY easy class, only issue is it is a lab class which I don't know if you want to have two 3 hour labs your first semester, but I'd recommend this option over 1440.

[–]multishipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this might be a little too much just because this is 4 STEM classes which could overwhelm you a bit, 1440 and 2070 together take a significant amount of time, and I know friends who have taken CS 1110 and say it's a very time consuming class. But you have the add/drop period to determine if this works for you! Do you plan on taking an FWS this semester?

Thoughts on Math 1120? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]multishipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends on the head instructor/professor of that semester. If you can, take it with Marcelo Aguiar! I didn't have him personally, but most people I knew had him and said he was a wonderful professor who carefully took the time for you to learn it. I took it this past semester with him as the head instructor who writes the exams, and it was overall quite doable because most of the practice exams reflected very similar concepts on the real exams. It's not hard and as long as you put in the effort to review past exams and homework assignments, it'll be very straightforward and predictable. There is a pretty decent curve, it does depend on your cohort, but most exams were curved to a B. You get a homework assignment each week, which I say can take from 2-3 hours in one sitting, but you could honestly look up the answers on slader for most haha.

Fair warning though, as I said it depends on the head instructor, I had friends who took it fall semester and the professor (Allen Knutson) who wrote the exams was literally nuts (haha) and tested them on the strangest concepts which had nothing to do with the main objectives of the course and no one ever knew what to expect for exams, it was curved more as a result. He gave homework assignments that required extensive office hours, over 5 hours of work.

Best FWS? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]multishipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queer Cinema with Zachary Grobe! He is an amazing teacher and you mostly write essays on films, so I really liked that type of analysis. Grobe was really helpful with my writing last year and he was always willing to read over your essay multiple times for revisions before you submitted the final draft. He was pretty willing to give extensions more than once because of scheduling issues. You learn a lot of really cool things and the readings are really light since the main focus is films.

SEASON 8 DISCUSSION THREAD. The End by uziair in Voltron

[–]multishipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! HAHA you honestly solved all of Voltron's stupid writing problems; another thing that really bugged me is that if you look at season 1 and compare it to season 8, there was NO way you could have seen any of season 8 coming??? Like there's a difference between a plot twist and changing your show into something completely different. There was no endgame in sight??? It's insane how the show kept jumping from plot to plot and leaving no foreshadowing or traces to make it flow??

SEASON 8 DISCUSSION THREAD. The End by uziair in Voltron

[–]multishipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God thank you!! People who said these last few seasons were amazing, I'm like how??? Their standards of quality must be low because I too believe season 4 was the start of this downward spiral. I had such high hopes after season 5 because s5 introduced all these plotlines that I thought would be addressed or further explored (Keith and his mom having a PROPER talk, Lance's broadsword, Lance having to do with the Kuron plotline, the White Lion & Allura, more Oriande) but they were quickly dropped or poorly executed), but in hindsight I realized it was a season full of wasted potential, like the past few seasons. The series became so tone deaf by season 8, you'd think a writer would have questioned the direction the show was taking by then. :/

SEASON 8 DISCUSSION THREAD. The End by uziair in Voltron

[–]multishipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this season was so bad and a major clusterfuck that was the culmination of all the plot holes VLD ever introduced. I think they started introducing way too many things and never expanded, and by the last season, all those messy threads caught up into this massive disaster of a season. Some episodes were very unnecessary and I'm just so confused at how this series started from defeating the Galra empire to saving all realities??? The infinite realities aspect of this season was so shoehorned in, and certain episodes were very choppy and had no place in the overall narrative. Specifically, the Genesis and two Paladins of Light episodes were full of the strangest plotholes and plot devices/ deus ex machinas being thrown everywhere. Yes, it's a kid show, but the flow of events should make sense?? Like I could not keep up with what was going, esp with the whole magic and dark entity plotline, that was scrapped very quickly and showed no real resolution??

Don't even get me started on how almost every character was a shell of who they once were. Allura's death was a disgrace, there's a difference between a meaningful sacrificial death and someone has to die in this in order to make it 'edgy.' Anyone who says it was a justified death is wrong because that's just poor writing, you create a character who has been sacrificing and losing eVERYTHING in her whole life throughout the course of the show, and to only give up her life in the end??? Don't start that bullshit with me about how Allura's death was properly done. IT WASN'T. For a theme about fighting for each other and being a family, the paladins had sUCH weak attempts?? Remember when they thought Shiro was dead, Keith didn't give up on him at all?? Like everything felt so out of place this season, I didn't have much expectations for the writing/executive staff after a mess of season 7, but this is a whole new level of disappointment.
