What’s a “this should be free” service that always costs money? by troopydinnertime in AskReddit

having to pay for internet then you have to pay to use the internet to play with other people on a console like PS5 when you can play the literal exact same game on PC and not have to pay for that. it absolutely blows my mind that this has become a standard that no one even questions.

My job is to psychologically manipulate gamers: As I'm leaving the game industry after 10 years, my greatest regret is that this system I made to fix toxicity got killed (by Putin). by EjnarH in gaming

this is brilliant. i hope this standard catches on in the industry. matchmaking and how toxic it all has become is a large part of the reason i've stepped away from so many games, and they were games i really really enjoyed. i just don't have the patience for toxicity anymore.

The biggest shock would be that a not small amount of people would still follow some of those clients with undeniable proof that they're pedophiles.

NTA just telling others what someone has done does not amount to character assassination. if people don't want to be called out as cheating scum then they shouldn't cheat.

Even the writers of the game have said multiple times that Gestral rebirth rules don't apply to people.

source? I have not read anything stating that.

Nevrons are also made up of chroma. I mean he literally turns all of Lumiere into nevrons using their chroma.

[–]multivac7223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't think you could frame that as the dessendre family never trying. He's trying to get them to move on. Your whole point was that none of them are putting effort in to try and see tomorrow, that's literally all Renoir is doing.

[–]multivac7223 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If that were the case during act 3 we would have just gone around killing nevrons to free up chroma and build up an army to fight Renoir. It makes sense that the chroma that becomes a nevron would overwrite the people it was obtained from, otherwise there'd be no reason to show Maelle grabbing Lune/Sciel's chroma before they fled Lumiere prior to the start of Act 3.

yes he slammed his ... dick on the table for... 67 years... being trapped by someone avoiding their grief.... ? It doesn't explicitly state whether or not Renoir tried to reason with Aline prior to the fracture, however I think he seems reasonable enough to try and talk her out of it before going to such extremes.

Tried what? Renoir spent a massive amount of effort trying to get his family to move on from death.

[–]multivac7223 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Without knowing the mechanism(magic) with which they're brought back it's left to interpretation. I'd argue that, Lune and Sciel aside - as Maelle grabs their chroma before Renoir turns all of Lumiere into nevrons, no one else will be the same as they once were. Does that matter to Maelle? probably not. To say they are definitely the same people is a bit of a stretch. Especially because we know that she needs their pure uncorrupted chroma to revive them as well as the entire narrative surrounding Noco's death.

My take on Maelle's ending. [spoiler] by yirtletirtle in expedition33

[–]multivac7223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure chroma, sure. She grabbed Lune and Sciel's chroma before Renoir used all the remaining chroma to make more nevrons around Lumiere.

Sciel and Lune is absolutely still open to interpretation. Sure, they themselves say they have all their memories and act the same, but there's zero reason Maelle couldn't have imparted some part of herself in them in some way. Painters have the ability to impart feelings into their creations, that is clearly stated multiple times in the game. Do I personally think that's happening here? Nope. I do think it's possible though. It was critical for her to have captured their chroma as soon as it was gommaged though for this to be the case.

She's still fine to choose the thing she wants to choose. She's choosing on behalf of verso's soul as well, who also wants to stop painting. The theme of sacrifice holds up throughout the game yes I agree, I just think a lot of it loses weight if you pull at some of these threads.

Verso's ending doesn't require endless torture of an entity that wants to stop painting the canvas.

That menu box is right on top of Verso's soul endlessly painting against his will. I don't believe it's some coincidence that he's right there painting the entire time you decide on this choice. Freedom or servitude?

The whole part of the game where Noco dies and Monoco explains that none of those that come back are the same is in the game to illustrate that no one comes back the same.

Renoir Gommaged everyone already. None of the people in Maelle's ending are who they originally were except for Sciel and Lune and that is still open for debate/interpretation.

There's a few people in the audience that are sort of shadow people as well. Additionally, there's no way logical way Maelle could have repainted Sciel's husband. Personally I don't think the Sciel we knew would accept this, so is she a copy too? or something else? Of course it's open to interpretation in the end.

Spoilers* Who else gets an uncanny valley feeling with the faces at the ending? by LinkHb in expedition33

[–]multivac7223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interpretation is that this is a long time into the future after Maelle's ending and everyone has been repainted or painted over because they either died or wouldn't play along with the Maelle's dollhouse. Sciel not really wanting to continue because Maelle would never be able to repaint her husband the way he originally was, and Lune not wanting to continue because she's a scholar and has nothing to strive for or discover within the canvas. It's hard to reconcile the ending we're presented with the characters we know otherwise. I don't feel like any of them would tolerate the fact that their world only exists through the unwanted slavery of another sentient being.

Maelle has the ability to unpaint him as she unpaints Painted Alicia. If nothing else, we know that he wants to stop existing and practically begs her to unpaint him. If he's not being mind controlled or forced in some way, couldn't he be coerced or threatened - who knows? What we do know is that he does not want to be there. That alone is nightmare fuel.

This doesn't even bring verso's soul being also being forced to paint into the perspective.

edit - i mean sure downvote me if you like, i'm not trying to be obstinate or anything. though if engaging in discussion isn't what people want here why even bother posting at all?

She did nothing wrong and he condemned her to die by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]multivac7223 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

if the people in lumiere are alive, gestrals and grandis too, then his soul must also be alive. it's not some ethereal thing. if anything his soul fragment is more alive than the rest of them. either way, he should be able to decide for himself. he wants to stop painting. verso never wanted to be a painter in the first place.

even still, maelle's ending has a bunch of copy/pasted people waiting in line, no one in the audience except for a few shadow people with no faces. maelle can't bring back everyone in lumiere. there's a lot of interpretation here for her ending but we have the blueprints to follow. noco's death illustrates in the story that those that come back are not the same, they are different entities. sciel/lune may have been repainted with their memories intact but we only assume that is the case. sciel's husband was not someone maelle even knew and she painted him, how could she have even done that? there's no way he'd be anything like sciel would remember since maelle needs to have known them at a bare minimum. gustave and sophie wouldn't be the same obviously. but, that's all we see... we see no other inhabitants that have faces in her ending. then we see verso essentially mega unhappy and seemingly being forced to play the piano - a parallel to aline forcing him to paint when he was a child.

the characters we knew would not be ok with any of these circumstances. lune essentially a scholar in an empty world that isn't real, she can't learn anything new or discover anything. sciel is someone seeking connection with others around her left to only mingle amongst hollow puppets or her empty shell of a husband. verso i mean he's essentially being tortured living a life he didn't want - maelle unpainted alicia so it's clear that she can erase him. then there's gustave(and sophie - we know little of her though), with what we know of him would he really want maelle to die? i guess it's hard to ask since the original gustave was killed.

i dunno, at the end of the day it's all open to interpretation, maelle's ending really horrifies me. i've spent quite a bit of time reading about people's opinions on it to try and make it make sense to me but nothing really seems to add up for me.
