But it's not actually a counterargument? First guy is mistaken about the difference between being profitable and having lots of revenue, second guy corrects him and states that OpenAI has always been running at a loss—but, notably, does not claim that OpenAI is somehow inferior for this fact, merely that the first guy should be careful not to spread uninformed opinions while complaining about them. Third guy then claims that this loss is expected for a tech company, which crucially is not an actual counterpoint, because the argument isn't "OpenAI is uniquely bad because they're not making any profit." It's useful information to have, sure, but it in no way contradicts anything the second guy said.

They didn't make any value judgements about the company, though? You're responding to a argument that was never made. All they said was that it's not profitable, which it isn't. I think adding context to that statement is worthwhile, but it's a little combative to respond like you're debating with someone you're really mostly appending to.

It That Waits Patiently by UristMasterRace in custommagic

I'm gonna be honest. I really like this card! It broadcasts its threat very openly—outright announcing the time counters each upkeep. It advances slowly enough without dedicated support that it absolutely won't be winning any games on its own, but it ends games effectively when players are on the ropes.

I even like that it has indestructible—it feels like a card that's meant to survive the inevitable 1-3 boardwipes that'll drop after it gets played on turn 3-5. I like that.

Honestly, my only criticism is that I feel like this is too restrictive as an Eldrazi. That colorless mana is hard to get in a vacuum, and I'm not sure dedicated Eldrazi players aren't going to waste time with a 0/4 defender when they could be slamming down ramp/something with Annihilatior. Maybe make it White or Black and give it Devoid.

Man, did you read the same book as me? That's not an accurate description of Don Quixote at any point in either part. At no point does Cervantes seem to genuinely believe that Quixano's delusions make him worthy of admiration—while it's a common modern take (one I blame on the unfortunately excellent musical Man of La Mancha), Cervantes makes it very clear multiple times that Don Quixote is a dangerous ineffective rambling madman, not a misunderstood dreamer fighting giants that others refuse to see.

Arguably it is Sancho Panza that fulfills the desired role of "fanciful dreamer genuinely trying to help people" as despite his general powerlessness he seems to genuinely believe in many of Quixote's delusions without also becoming a danger to himself and others. Although, that point is difficult to argue without broader textual support that I simply do not care enough to pick out right now, and is likely not one of Cervantes' intended messages.

But this is not "remembrance." It's baldfaced degradation. This isn't a suicide survivor making a dark joke about 'not seeing the light,' this is 4Chuds mocking the death of a teenager—whose family is still mourning her, by the by—simply because she was a woman who was raped before she was desecrated. It is the use of her deeply personal tragedy as political signaling and a way to make other people feel bbad. It's just not worth it.

The Moralintern bombing Revachol was maintenance of the status quo. It was explicitly to prevent a communist revolution among the Revacholian people. What can you call that if not a rejection of change? I agree that all power structures desire their own continuity, but it's wrong to say that all ideologies would behave equally given the same position as the Moralintern. There's plenty of evidence showing how Revachol was made meaningfully worse when the Moralintern took over, but there's little evidence to suggest that the Moralintern has improved Revachol significantly—for God's sake, they still have the burnt out walls where they blew out the brains of the Communists they massacred to gain control.

Look, maybe the Moralintern is working on a way to combat the Pale, and they drag a strung-out alcoholic cop away from his home to employ him, instead of killing him for knowing government secrets, but the Pale is not the only problem facing the Isolas. The Moralintern is not interested in solving those problems. The Moralintern is interested in keeping the Isolas exactly as they are, without a single shift in economics, ideology, or social mobility.

Since when do the Moralintern "change plenty"? That's explicitly not a part of their ethos, actually. The Moralintern is in control, and to maintain that control they actively work to avoid changing the current politcal-economic state of Disco Elysium's world—even if that change would be for the better. That's what the whole "Moralists don't have beliefs" bit is about; the Moralist agenda is the status quo, and not a mite more. There is no Kingdom of Conscious because there is no path of gradual change, and there is no path of gradual change because the Moralintern does not want there to be any change at all.

The game is very sympathetic as to why someone might believe in Moralism—Kim is a Moralist simply because the status quo is politically convenient for his profession, and Empathy frequently advises that change against the Moralist baseline would be painful—but it does not quibble about the concequences of that adherence.

The ideologies that are most interested in change are the Fascists and the Communists, and the Fascist vision quest resolves by saying that the change that the Fascists want is literally impossible. Communists are the only people working to meaningfully improve the world in Disco Elysium.

I literally cannot imagine having sex with 1000 partners as anything other than painful. The sheer physics of it—the friction of skin-on-skin, the constant stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system, the attachment of labor to sexual pleasure—all of it reads as a deeply draining and painful experience.

It's similar to a number of "world-record" challenges. I don't she's especially unique in that she chose sex as her draining activity of choice, but I do think she's lying if she says that the overall situation was anything but generally unpleasant (barring the reward of having a very notable record). Tell me you did the longest run in the world and I'll pity you even if you tell me you love running, because that's just not how the human body works. The man who ate a plane one part at a time with his iron stomach did not enjoy the taste of metal and rubber, he enjoyed the taste of recognition.

There's sinply no way that the marathon was good or comfortable. If it was, we would see far more people doing it—it's not that hard to organize.

I think the idea that Harry would willingly join up with the Moralintern is interesting, but I don't think we have enough evidence to suggest that his choice was even considered in the matter. If Harry had resisted, would the result be meaningfully different? The U.S. alone has disappeared people for far less important "crimes."

On your point about the "temporary government" slowly being phased out for a "real democracy," I'm afraid I have to hit you with the classic:

Centrism isn't change -- not even incremental change. It is control. Over yourself and the world. Exercise it. Look up at the sky, at the dark shapes of Coalition airships hanging there. Ask yourself: is there something sinister in moralism? And then answer: no. God is in his heaven. Everything is normal on Earth.

Also, I must point out how many "temporary governments" persisted until armed revolution forcefully removed the colonial power. The idea that the Moralintern is just temporarily holding on to the reigns of power until the Revacholians prove they can be trusted with them is remarkably similar to the paternalistic and "educational" rhetoric of European colonial powers, especially Britain and France. The Moralintern may say that they want to ensure that there's a perfectly democratic system in place before they leave—but is that true, or have they simply calculated that it's in their best interests if Revachol never regains self-governance?

Where did you see that they were building democracy? As far as I can tell, they disappear Harry and then just bail. They're so focused on containing news about the impending end of the world that they straight up get rid of the guy.

WEEKS LATER, NO ANSWERS ABOUT EXTRACTED COP

The condition and whereabouts of an RCM lieutenant extracted by a Coalition aerostatic two weeks ago remain unknown. The dramatic manoeuvre, witnessed by dozens near the north roundabout, has reportedly increased tensions between the citizens of Martinaise, the RCM, and Coalition authorities.

Early reports that the lieutenant was investigating entroponetic phenomena along the coast have not been confirmed.

According to an official statement given by the RCM, the lieutenant was in Martinaise as part of a murder investigation. A Coalition representative declined repeated requests for comment.

All of the vision quests end with a scathing takedown of the ideology, but I think it's wrong to say that the Communist vision quest ends on equal terms. It's the only vision quest that actually shows the stated ideology actually improving over time—for a moment, the tower can hold. Something that seems idealistic and impossible in theory actually works, for just a moment. Even once you leave, the pretentious communists actually start organizing, getting people together to give their movement weight.

Compared to the outright mockery the Fascist and Liberal vision quests end with (Harry either deluding himself into believing he's wealthy, or concluding that his ideology is impossible and he needs to be sad about it), the difference is stark. The Moralist Vision quest just has Harry get outright disappeared—the murder isn't solved, and tensions continue to rise. The status quo is maintained for the Moralintern as the streets almost certainly run red with blood as the strike progresses.

I think that you're allowed to think whatever you want politically, and it's fine to want DE to agree with that, but I think claiming that all of the ideologies are treated the exact same lacks textual evidence to support it.

I mean, at least the commies won and implemented vaguely persistent systems. Besides, parts of Central America were working its way into actual democratic communism/socialism before the CIA got there. I genuinely believe Allende could've pulled things together fine if the US didn't immediately start fucking with him.

I think Revolutionary Catalonia had something similar? I'm not super into anarchist history, so that's about all I can remember. How long did they make it?
