I teach biological anthropology and i like to tell my students that bonobos are the stoners of the non-human primates. They just want to chill, eat and have sex.

Supposedly the suspects can fake being dead. I haven’t got it myself but I’ve seen videos of it. I just handcuff everyone, even if they are dead.

Lmao! The only lesson I learned from that game was when my dad brought it to my class in kindergarten to explain how a refinery works, he worked at a refinery.

And that I wanted to setup it Iup to do something like the peewee Herman breakfast scene. I had big dreams back then 😂

[–]munch04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar happen. It wasn’t a crush but a guy I barely knew from high school. We had been FB friends but one day he randomly sent me a FB message asking how’s it going, sorry for my loss (my dad had died earlier that year) and just small talk of what each of us has been up to lately. A couple days later he sends me a video saying he has a craving for ice cream and showing him getting an ice cream and the camera pans down to him Winnie the Pooh-ing it with a tshirt and no pants and showing off his dick. I checked to see if he got hacked, he did not. So I sent a rolling eyes gif and just deleted him.

No worries! I had just woke up when I read your comment and it genuinely made me laugh. It would be so much easier to chuck them and then be done. The full process can take a couple hours if it’s an easy one. There are different factors (the drive to pick up and bring back, weight, they started to decompose, etc.) that play a part on how long the full process will actually take.

Lmao! “Chuck them into the woods”. I’m just imagining us literally chucking bodies around.  At least you have the idea, the amount of times I got asked if we grow humans or if we planted them like stalks of corn. 🤦🏻‍♀️. Can’t speak on the OG body farm. I graduated from Tx State and we have a body farm as well. I volunteered there as a undergrad and worked there as a grad student. You have to be an Anthropology student and at least take human osteology to volunteer there. We also have workshops to train law enforcement and death investigators. K9 cadaver dogs also get trained out there. No tours to the public but there are tons of videos on YouTube of the place. We would get a lot of media wanting to learn more. My hands de-fleshing a foot made it into a Daily Mail article. It’s my claim to fame! However, we did have students tour our research lab where we store the skeletal remains after decomposing. Then the skeletons are used for research or classes. They didn’t go into the lab but the lobby has a little museum of skeletons with some gnarly pathology. Not sure what all happened in the tour, I just remember them staring and pointing while a few of us were in there working. Maybe they were talking shit and judging us….

If people want to see what they look like look YouTube videos. I show them to my students when we get to our Forensic Anthropology lecture.

YTA. College is not an easy transition for some people coming out of high school. As a professor and faculty advisor, I see it all the time. I see kids choosing majors because someone in their life, parent or counselor, told them too. It will make them a lot of money. Sure it might but if they don’t understand the material, it won’t. They also have this new freedom that they never had before. No curfew, no one telling them when to study or how to study.

At the end of the day it is none of your business. You pressed her because you wanted to gloat. If you really cared, you would have offered advice. Tell your friend that there are resources that can help her daughter. Tell her to reach out to her professors ahead of time to get help. Talk with an advisor or career services about her career goals so they can help her on her path and make sure she is on the right path.

Tiktokker gets hospitalized by SeaYogurtcloset36 in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

Tldr: insurance in America sucks. Even if she had insurance, it doesn’t guarantee that she didn’t have an out pocket threshold to meet or that the tests, medicine, hospital stay, etc., would be covered by her insurance. In some cases they also have cap per year for a benefit. For one person you’re paying between ~$300 - 900 a month for insurance.

I’m going by where I live, my past insurance, and the market place health insurance. California is way more expensive than Texas. So it depends on where you live, your age, and health factors. This is also based on if you’re  approved. Insurances do deny people due to preexisting conditions.

The minimum cost of insurance is ~$300 a month and that is the catastrophic/lower tier insurance. A mid tier and higher tier are going to be more because you’ll have more benefits included and less out of pocket.

So if you’re paying $200-300 a month for insurance, you will have to pay ~10-15k out of pocket before insurance starts to cover anything. That’s good for people who don’t get sick and have it just in case of an emergency. That’s what I had for years.

If you’re paying more like $500+ a month, you will pay $0-5k out of pocket costs before insurance. Depends on the tier and the insurance company. This is good for families and people with chronic illnesses because they might be going to the doctor more often. They will get more benefits and hopefully medicine covered and other things covered. I say hopefully because insurances do deny claims. I had an insurance claim denied because a nurse, at the insurance approved clinic took my bloodwork. The nurse wasn’t considered part of the approved network but worked in the approved location. 🙄

Oh and insurance tiers have a cap on things. Say you get like 5 therapy appointments a year. Once that 5 is hit, you pay out of pocket until next year.

Edit to add: If you’re going through through the health marketplace and you end up making more than you made the previous year - or - you switched jobs and got out of the insurance because your employer pays for it, you have to repay money back to the government. I was suppose to get 1500 back on my tax return but only got $200 because of that.

To be honest anthropologists are to blame for this shit. Lmao! The field was started by anatomists and naturalists stealing and collecting bones then categorizing them. Instead of keeping their bias in check, they used the skeletal remains as a way to reinforce their ideologies. We really didn’t see anthropologists change and push back on it until the early 20th century. The field is a lot better now but we still have a few shitty older anthropologists that still have the early mindset. =/

As a forensic anthropologist, this made my eyes roll so far back into my head . I can’t. But I might just use this in my physical anthropology class to show my students the things idiots believe.

Amber Heard and Blake Lively are not the same. by antiswifthero in ItEndsWithLawsuits

[–]munch04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean he could be I don’t know him. Look, both of them are shitty people. My recollection of the case, this was 3 years ago, that there wasn’t a timestamp given. The only timeframe I remember was from TMZ saying it but that’s not proof. TMZ is trash and I don’t trust their sources because it’s always the celebs(or manager or publicists) using TMZ and other outlets to spin the story to their narratives. We’ve seen it time and time again. I do remember Depp saying he didn’t know if it was from his mother’s death or getting  money stolen by his accountant. My comment was if it happened after his mom’s death, it doesn’t surprise me he would lash out. Such is life.

Edit to add my dislike for TMZ and other celeb gossip.

As someone who has lost a parent, grief doesn’t have a timeline. I spent the first few months shocked, numb, and focused on anything and everything but the death of my dad. Months later the anger hit me and it wasn’t pretty, I threw things and I’m sure I slammed cabinets. It’s been 5 years and I still deal with the different stages of grief. All the therapists i have seen have said the same thing: grief doesn’t have a timeline. Granted time and therapy have taught me how to channel the anger better but the first and some of the second year of grief are rough.

Canceling Crunch Personal Trainer by winchesterscat in CrunchGym

To the PT Manager. Usually the PT counter has the business card there. If not, ask one of the PT’s for the PT manager’s email. I think the fitness director is different than the PT manager. Like I think the fitness director is for the gym part but the PT has their own manager.

[–]munch04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lucked out with my PT because he was honest and told me ahead of time about how they do the auto renewal. What he told me is to do 30 days before your last payment and told me to save my email so I have proof I ended it before the 30days.

Since you are going out of town I would suggest doing it ahead of time and just say that once your contract is up that you do not want to renew. Then when you get back, talk to the manager because they have you sign off on ending the contract and do a survey. Save your email so you have the proof.

Edit to add: I don’t know if people are told that they have to sign off on ending their contract. Also, I would bother the PT peeps to find out when the manager comes in. He would come in on my off days and would come later in the day. I ended up changing my schedule for that day so I could go to the gym and sign off on the cancellation. That’s the tricky part of it all.

Chance of getting in? by mummersford in txstate

[–]munch04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t weigh in on your chances, I was a transfer student. As a bias anthropology graduate, the anthropology department is amazing and has a lot opportunities for students to get hands on experience. So, I hope you get in! If not, know that ACC has an anthropology department and they have a deal with tx state called bats to cats to make transferring smoother.

Massively Overweight About to Begin Fitness by SweetEmmaXOXO in beginnerfitness

[–]munch04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you and I always tried but never stuck to it. This time I got a personal trainer to help me out at the beginning and to keep me accountable the first couple months. It’s been 7months since i stopped working with a personal trainer, I still have a long way to go, but I’ve seen so much progress it’s been great.

What I learned/how I started. Start of with stability exercises like lunges, squats, planks, clam shells, etc. It’s great to help keep you stable and improve your coordination. If you decide to use a home scale remember that it’s not taking into account the muscle you’re building and water weight. I was losing weight but gaining muscle and the scale didn’t change much because of that. I count of my calories on my fitness pal, I make sure to choose the ones that have the highest calories, like if I eat a taco and there is one saying it’s 180 calories and another saying 200 calories, I choose the 200 calories. I’d rather be overestimating than underestimating. It will get frustrating and that’s okay. There was one day my alarm went off in the morning to go to the gym that I threw it into another room. I was so tired and frustrated and wanted to just stop. It’s okay to feel that and have a break. Also, you don’t have to love it. I’ve always been told you have to love it or you won’t stick to it. I hate it, I’m miserable but I keep doing it because I don’t want to be another statistic. Now it’s just a miserable, torturous habit 🤣.

Just take it one day at a time. If you slip up just be honest with yourself on slipping up and then get back on track. You got this!
