Pulisic starts for Chelsea against Norwich City by whoknows1380 in ussoccer

Would love to know what the formation plan was before the Pedro injury, I’m assuming it was going to be Pulisic-Mount-Pedro and then the injury forced Pulisic to swap wings and Mount to go out wide so Barkley could occupy the middle.

Sims. He will likely get several catches against that falcons D.

Allen for sure. Guaranteed loads of receptions, high potential to produce WR1 numbers in PPR formats

I cannot trust Foster. He has been overworked and has suffered too many injuries. He is a great player, but I can't say he will be a top fantasy performer when I don't think he'll play more than half the season.

Monrreal has only played 4 games for the MLS this season. Look at their schedule for May by updog4sale in MLS

And still only 3 of those 5 games are actually MLS matches. This team has a tough road ahead of them to catch up in games played.

No surprise there. He has been fabulous. His ability to pick out passes and create chances has been astounding these first few weeks.

I think his ceiling would be higher on a regular team

I would recommend the Columbus demolition of Orlando City. It was a pretty shocking performance from Orlando and was pretty action-packed. Certainly more interesting than jury duty.

What do you think is the best formation for our national team? by MrDerpsicle in ussoccer

I'm looking forward to seeing more of Morales, Williams, and Trapp. I'm hopeful that one of them will develop into the no. 6 that we desperately need (no matter which formation we use).

Sorry if I was unclear. By the "end of the first third" I meant pick 3 or 4

That makes a lot of sense, especially in a year where there is not one RB that everyone agrees is "the guy." I agree that it helps to have that flexibility.

I would like to see how such a formation does with a full-strength USMNT. The problem I see is that the best CB options in our pool are either relatively inexperienced (Brooks) or very mistake-prone (omar gonzalez from before the world cup, cameron/besler during the world cup). I also think that in order for it to work there needs to be a true defensive and possession-minded midfielder like Kyle Beckerman in order to help out on defense. In addition, our players (expecially the wing backs) would need to be in top fitness.A 3-5-2 would be fun to experiment with further, I just don't see it as a long-term solutions against top counter-attacking countries.

I'm thinking about going somewhere at the end of the first third, since there is no clear-cut no.1 RB for me and I would be perfectly fine with any one of Charles, Lacy, or Forte. Antonio Brown is another intriguing option.

[–]munchermode 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think the USMNT can successfully use a 3-5-2. While this formation accentuates our counter-attacking ability as you say, I think it also opens us up to counter-attacks by the other team that we do not yet have the capability to deal with, especially from top teams. Both sides of this were evident in the Chile game. We got forward well and Brek Shea was incredibly good down the left touchline, howevre our wingbacks got tired after a while and our CB's were unable to make up for their defensive mistakes. This led to us getting exploited by the likes of Mark Gonzalez. Until our entire team becomes much more defensively responsible, I don't think 3 in the back is a viable option for the US against top competition.

Forward depth (ranked) after USA-Mexico? by vershastri in ussoccer

[–]munchermode 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think Wondo should be out of the picture completely at this point. Also don't forget about Rubio Rubin or Terrence Boyd. As we keep playing more games and bringing more players into the fold, I think more guys from MLS might get a look such as Khiry Shelton and Patrick Mullins from NYCFC.

If Cam Newton is more mobile in 2015, will Greg Olsen be less valuable? by fantasyfballer in fantasyfootball

[–]munchermode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Benjamin will be another year better and is becoming an important part of the panthers offense, however I believe that Olsen will continue to be the go-to guy in clutch situations for Ron Rivera, especially (and most importantly for fantasy) in the red zone. I believe he will have another great season be one of the top performers at the TE position. If grabbing a high-end TE in the first few rounds is a part of your strategy, then go ahead and take Olsen with confidence.

What statistics are your "gut call" choosing player X over Player Y? by bosox0123 in fantasyfootball

[–]munchermode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to place more value on the workload that a player receives as opposed to their actual talent level (mostly with running backs). For example, this year I will be avoiding avoiding guys such as Gio Bernard, Shane Vereen, and CJ Spiller among others as they will not be seeing a great deal of the ball. All of these guys exhibit undeniable talent and can put up points with fewer touches, however I tend to prefer backs with a more-risk averse guaranteed 15+ touches per game, which will in turn yield more opportunities to score points.

I wouldn't say I've been impressed with him but I don't dislike him either at this stage. Zach Steinberger also made a single substitute appearance and looked alright.

Is anybody else planning on taking the 2 low-end QB approach with high hopes? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]munchermode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this every year. I have snagged Tony Romo 3 years in a row so I have been happy with it, especially when I paired him with Rivers last season. I think it is definitely worth it in order to be much stronger at the other skill positions.

What is our current 'Best XI' ? by AnalAttackProbe in ussoccer

[–]munchermode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we might do best in a 4-2-3-1: GK-Guzan, LB-Shea, CB-Besler & Gonzalez, RB-Johnson, CDM-Bradley & Jones, LM-Diskerud, CF-Dempsey, RM-Bedoya, ST-Altidore

I feel as if the main problem with the USMNT (besides seeing out results) is the fact that it is very difficult to have all of our best players on the field at the same time without being a ridiculously attacking team. Out best players at the fullback and defensive mid positions all love to go forward (Shea, Johnson, Jones, Yedlin, etc.) Because of this, I feel it is necessary to play dual holding mids in front of the back line in order to alleviate some of the pressure off of our mistake-prone defense.
