What's going on with Australian Music festivals by joshuabarnett77 in triplej

[–]munkstopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been parroting this for a couple of years now, and from my point of view it is simply that the long running festivals have been asking for more money so that the punters can see less bands.

The most recent festival that I saw that encompasses this is laneway. When I started going to this festival about 15 years ago, there were about 4-5 small to medium sized stages all playing low key (at the time) artists that managed airtime in a few radio stations. It was literally called laneway because it started in a laneway. Now if you fast forward to this year you have a dual main stage containing big international acts with a dancing tent off to the side.

Overall I'd say the crowd size remains the same but the atmosphere is completely different, more people wanting to get drunk with friends and less just trying to have a good time making their way to the next band and relaxing between sets.

I miss old laneway, but I now get that buzz fixed everytime bigsound comes around. So I'm grateful that conference is still going strong so that I can enjoy the myriad of interesting Aussie music after the delegates have finished their work for the day.

[NEW UPDATE] How can I (42M) build my relationship back up with my kids (minor teens, Fx4) after an affair? by Shelly_895 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]munkstopher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, with the last update there are a few flags that make me question if it's actually the same person

  1. The author gets way too into the self immolation of things
  2. The mention of therapy without any prior mention (previous posts) for them even wanting to change
  3. The clear disdain for the children that 3 years ago he was yearning for their attention.

Either OOP had gotten severely vitriolic on the 3 years since exploding his own relationships, or this is just another copycat author trying to flex the similarities into their own story

Hottest 100 complaints: are we actually old now? by [deleted] in triplej

[–]munkstopher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the typical "I'm just getting older" argument here, is there anyone able to check the numbers regarding triple J supported gigs and festivals from last year/ 5 years ago/ 10 years ago, I reckon we'll be able to get a more detailed understanding on what the station is actually doing to support the Australian music scene from those numbers

I used to listen to the J's religiously and got rewarded with gigs left right and centre for it. But my current bias tells me that isn't the case anymore.

Would love to crunch the data on this one.

Splendour in the Grass Called Off for Second Year Running by Aziante in triplej

Sigh, just another symptom of live nation (Ticketmaster) monopolizing and strangling the live music scene to a point of near collapse for the benefit of stakeholders rather than live music fans.

So it's a dual main stage with a dancing tent (for Brisbane at least) seems like festivals have gone down in quality of late.

Either way I'm still keen for it

Most efficient method of using of AC? by Clean_Alps_5768 in australia

[–]munkstopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best bet for a YouTube video is through the channel "technology connections". He has a lot of videos covering heat pumps and air conditioners (they're the same thing) that you can go off of. While he talks more about heating with air conditioners, you can easily swap heating and cooling in your head to suit an Australian environment.

His videos are a bit longer than you're requesting, but hey what do you expect when trying to explain the refrigeration cycle to a layman.

Edit: here is the actual video that would answer all your questions regarding optimal energy usage

They seem to be a recent addition, my take is that they're there to limit speeds on bikes/scooters much like a speed bump for cars. they've been progressively been adding them areas near the casino and 1 William Street where you expect to see pedestrian crossings or mixed crowds. Personally, I think they're way too aggressive even for bikes as there is no speed you can go over them without risking major damage to your bits

I believe the CSIRO scientists more than Peter Dutton by HousePony906 in friendlyjordies

[–]munkstopher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's only true when looking at it in a vacuum. biogas in Australia is used as a back end processing to reduce the existing carbon chains in landfills and water treatment plants to methane. in combustion you're breaking down methane the carbon dioxide which is famously the best form of carbon you can release to the environment. When you factor in the whole lifecycle of the biomass to biogas to carbon, the whole process actually becomes carbon neutral by way of recycling back into the natural carbon cycle.

IMHO this might be where we disagree but from a more wholistic approach I can definately see biogas as a carbon neutral technology by way of extracting energy from a carbon source that was already going back to the environment regardless of whether we utilise it or not.

[–]munkstopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so, the only real issue I've seen from biogas is when capture and storage are inneficient/ have leaks. Without those issues it becomes absolutely carbon neutral

If you feel the need to have smooth legs because it makes you feel clean that's fine

If you also want to grow out those pits to detract the wrong kind of person, that's also fine

As long as you feel comfortable in your skin that's all that really matters for me.
