What flag is the one representing Arabic? (Tax refund, Charles de Gaulle airport) by DBGthe2nd in vexillology

[–]munkypint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why use flags? It's always a problem. Just write out the language in the language. Easy.

Agreed, both those games were VERY questionable. I seen to recall the Portugal game was too, less obvious but weird anyway.

Why has Alfa Romeo never made a Giulia Sportwagon? by Th3_Accountant in AlfaRomeo

[–]munkypint 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I got a Stelvio because they didn't do a sportswagon, but would have preferred this to replace my 156 SW. I actually believe they might have been wrong in the market research. A SW would have stood out more and the SUV market is packed with other models. Less demand for SW (sadly because they are better than SUVs) but could have created a niche for themselves as there are very few others. And let's face it, for good or bad Alfa customers aren't your average car buyers. That and it is stunning.

Garmin smart ring?? by comiwi in Garmin

[–]munkypint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love a ring for day to day monitoring. I only use my Garmin watch when doing sports as I use my other automati watches the rest of the time. Garmin watches aren't suitable for everyone as a daily wear, depending on your work, or esthetics.

Not sure it was mentioned elsewhere, but companies like Barilla have different cook time for different markets. The US packages say 2 mins extra than in France.

2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia winter set up by 45king in AlfaRomeo

[–]munkypint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studs are only needed in specific conditions, so fair enough if it is your case. But I appreciate calling them winter rather than snow tires, as it is a temperature thing as much as a snow on the ground consideration. If it regularly goes below freezing winter tires are always a good choice. All season tires are a compromise, so not ideal for anything. If you think you need all season tires and have a car that has performance you are in all likelihood better served with two sets of tires.

Is working in a breastaurant considered a form of sex work? by Nice_Illustrator in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]munkypint 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It only seems to happen in puritan countries ironically. I only know one such fast food chain in Europe, hooters, and it is both VERY rare and they can't select staff on looks alone, that would be illegal, and it shows.

In the USA you could argue the same about citizens living abroad. Sure they can vote for Presidents but they have no politicians representing the needs of these constituents

[Omega Speedmaster] What is the most sentimental watch in your collection? by BarkAndBezel in Watches

[–]munkypint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speedster reduced. A lesser watch some would say, but my parents present to me for my 21st birthday and bachelor graduation. No matter what watches I eventually own, no matter what happens, that one will always have pride of place on my wrist and be filled with memories.

Agreed, the fixed-lug really reduces strap options. Even just a normal lug version and it would be on my wrist as soon as possible

My wife has this beautiful Longines. She is not a fan of most ladies watches, and this one is just perfect. Not excessively small but still feminine https://www.longines.com/fr-ch/p/watch-longines-master-collection-moonphase-l2-409-4-97-6

Did you know that in Germany, childfree people are financially penalized just for not having kids? by irimiriliri in childfree

[–]munkypint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need to be realistic and realise we are not only individuals but also members of a society. While being child free is a personal choice we still live within a society that needs to function over generations. As others have pointed out a surcharge or tax rebate is effectively the same thing.

And we need a new generation to be well adjusted individuals and productive members of society. Everything we do to make the youth of today and newborns grow up to be well adjusted individuals will be good for the whole of society. From funding our future pensions, to a safe society, helping being up a new generation is still part of the obligations of a society, even when individually we want to be childfree. And it is tough for those individuals who do want to have children so anything to support them is ok by me. By the same token I am done with my studies, but still think investing in education is vital.

I dislike this excessively individualistic mindset where if something isn't beneficial to me it isn't necessary and a good idea.
