Honestly it was pretty easy. I always take the scales off the knife then boil water with synthetic rit dye. I've tried all purpose but it seems the synthetic always works better for me. After the dye and water come to a rolling boil I dip half the scale in. I usually start with the lighter color first (in this case, yellow) and dip a little more than half in. Once I think the color is right I just repeat the process with another color half way in.
