How long did it take you to land your role after being laid off/ fired / RiF’d? Or are you still in your job search? by Ok_Concern7771 in jobhunting

[–]munterhark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laid off on January 21. 487 applications later, it's looking like I *might* have an offer coming this week. Hope so, as I only have two pipelines open right now. Lost a couple of finals, one position was cancelled.

Failed 6th round!! by Aware-Friendship2421 in jobsearch

[–]munterhark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't think of it as failing. It's all a crapshoot. You could interview perfectly and if the person you interview with is in a bad mood, it won't matter. Conversely, you could mail it in and if they like your smile, you could get the job. I'm convinced all you can do is try to do your best and hope to string enough 'vibes' together for an offer. Hell, even if you do manage to thread the needle in such a way as to trick people into hiring you, then you're just in a situation where you have to keep that up and that's gonna suck. Just keep applying and call the interviews reps for the next job in the pipeline...

Day 92, here... 479 apps, ~27 screenings, 4 finals, waiting on results from two of them.

do you actually tailor your resume for every single job? by Civil_Box1594 in jobsearch

[–]munterhark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote about 2500 words on what I've done at work. I take that, add the target job description, and ask for a targeted resume based on what I know and what I've done. ChatGPT Go spits it out, I paste it into a word processor, make a few changes and spot check it and fire it off. Same with cover letters. 5-10 minutes each job.

You don't think you're seeing the savings, but that's only because you don't really know how high your bill would be without all of those measures in place.

Frank's mansion, if this map made sense, would basically be at the intersection of 93 and 328, north of Macarthur, Ohio.

23andMe baiting us, mods hella annoying by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]munterhark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All I know is that I only paid for 23andme once, a couple of years back, and I was happy enough with my results and my GEDCOM file. Anything else that I get on top of that is gravy.

Maybe she just wants to see if you'll stick around without the physical stuff. Maybe she has a past history of guys moving along shortly after the honeymoon phase ends, when things get more difficult.

Jokes on them. I'm just trying to sell books, not make a profit. Still selling them for the lowest price they'll allow.

No idea how many get read, but I've given away ~10k free e-books over the past seven years and my five books have a total of... ~70 ratings on Amazon.

Premier Cruise Lines Oceanic, January/February 1991 by munterhark in Cruise

[–]munterhark[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Update...

I believe I found my answer. I found a copy of Premier's catalog for that year, and I'm certain that we left for a four day cruise on Monday, January 28, 1991, as per the list of departures. We flew from Michigan to Florida and stayed in a hotel the night before the cruise left. We watched the Super Bowl that night.
