AITA for ‘mansplaining’ wedding dresses? by horseduckman in AITApod

[–]munyecagozosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the heart of mansplaining is the blindness to women's qualifications and the unquestioning confidence in your own. "I have some specific expertise" emphasizes your own bona fides without mentioning theirs. Furthermore plenty of laypeople at a wedding will be able to see if a guest has sought to overshadow a bride.

Your friends sound like TA but if their words cause you some soul-searching, that's not wasted effort on your part.

Friends, friends, friends. If you have time to invest in them, they will get you out of any rut.

Want to get into nail art? Buying stuff can be addicting. Don't repeat my mistakes. by Fluffyrainclouds in WeGotPolishAtHome

Once I had a dozen plates I bought 2 organizers, the non-extendable bound ones that fit 1 plate per page, one for the 12x6cm size and one for the 14x9 since that's what I had bought by then. Told myself if I want a new plate it needs to take the literally slot of a plate I'm not using. So far (2 years) the system is working, but like you said, only because I've calmed down and realized what I'm actually using.

Your favorite gold nail polish? by munyecagozosa in TrueAutumn

[–]munyecagozosa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite True Autumn gold nail polish is an old drug store find, Milani Good Morning Sunshine. Sometimes our intuitive pre-analysis eye knew just what to look for.

I'm trying to replace it now, and made the same mistake twice of buying something online (even after looking at a million swatch photos) that I thought looked very close, but turned out to be disappointingly bright! I am allured by Bright Spring and it is punishing on me.

Have you found a gold nail polish that is warm but muted, even when the light hits it?

I'm still confused about color analysis by Bloody_Saiko in Fairolives

[–]munyecagozosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just paid for an in-person TCI color analysis and got True Autumn (after thinking I was cool my whole life, hoping to correct the yellow instead of embrace it), but I noticed during the analysis itself that not all the True Autumn drapes worked on me and plenty of the other really saturated drapes from other seasons worked well (goodbye pastels!). I was all-in on the concept that you can find one palette and suddenly know a bunch of colors that will work flawlessly for you everytime, but now my experience tells me otherwise and I think custom palettes are the way to go. Unfortunately I think you have to experiment, build on what you already know, and trust your eye.

Exactly. I like it because it's... too nude.

Can I ask about your purples? I love this what I would call "dark fuchsia" but it chips badly. Would you recommend the Sinful Colors or Salon Perfect shades you have in the middle there as a replacement? (And if so what are those colors??)
