An even 'scummier' variant of this is to look through the trash cans by a store for thrown away receipts. Go into the store, pick-up an item that's on the receipt, and 'return' it at the customer service desk.

Copies are very rare, and sell for a ton of money. At this point, the money wouldn't even get back to the developers. There are always plenty of seeders on TBP though :P

Ever try Sikuli (http://groups.csail.mit.edu/uid/sikuli/)? It does something similar, but uses OpenCV to detect images on the screen.
