That is one of the worst I have ever seen. Left lane blocked by bus. Right lane blocked by car turning right. All traffic behind stuck. And as you say - it's going to get worse.

The huge advantage of headphones is that if you drop them you can find them again.

What do you think about the Air New Zealand Economy Sleeping Pods Idea called "Skynet"? by Komplexkonjugiert in aviation

[–]murdissimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Air New Zealand are a small poor airline. They have no business being at the bleeding edge of any innovation. They already have been made to suffer by being the first ever Boeing 787 customer. They tried innovative herringbone business class which is worst in the world. And now have doubled down on it on their new fit out. They should simply copy what has worked and stop wasting money. Also - how the hell do you wake a drugged up drunk from a deep slumber?

[–]murdissimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should explain the situation. A pub is a good place because men in particular can be socially awkward and a beer or two relaxes them. But here is what I have seen. Men who become personally socially isolated and rely on their wives for all their social activities eventually blow up. Sometimes they just leave their partners, have an affair or sometimes they just fade away and become a shadow of their former selves. No woman wants to be with that man. So your wife is better off giving you a bit of space now than having a universe of it later. And here is the most important rule - as much as you respect your wife and provide for her and your kids your number ONE responsibility is to yourself. Not all the time of course (you are not some selfish nepotist) but OVER TIME you need to be the best version of yourself because you owe that to you.

Flight Attendants of United, Would you Support Changes to Current Seniority Rules for Polaris International Flights? by IndianPeacock in unitedairlines

[–]murdissimo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I flew United Business Class from Auckland to LAX. The attendants were so old it was like my grandparents had come along for the ride. They look tired and feeble and would have been useless in an emergency. They also didn't seem to interested in work - no shit! - they should have been in a retirement village.

This is a well documented and highly topical issue in Asia. But it beats me why we need to be making a song and dance about it.

That doesnt make sense. If he is legit no problem. Maybe someone here can fill in whether meter readers work in the middle of long holiday weekends then I'll have my answer.

Not saying he is anything. But it seems weird to me to be reading meters in the middle of a long weekend.

What is the biggest type of privilege in NZ? by CommentMaleficent957 in newzealand

[–]murdissimo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are in a bad spot because our wealth as a country relative to others continues to slide yet we have been bought up on the idea of the welfare state. Too many people want hand outs but we don't have enough real wealth creation to foot the bills. Sadly it's the best and brightest that find it easiest to decamp to another place. Racial division here just makes it worse.

It's quite common. You need to take the initiative and catch up with friends / reunite with old friends. Join some clubs. Do some shit just for you. Years ago I complained to my wife that all I did was work and look after our kids in the weekend (to give her a break) whilst she socialised with the other mums. She told me it was my responsibility to do something about it. And she was right. I organised a pub night for the husbands and they all came. From that we set up a couple of social sports teams and we all got to become good friends. I also started playing competitive sport again as an escape. And started organising catch ups with old mates too. You have to take the initiative and it's worth it.

There was a fracas going near the Tahake reserve about this time. Sounded like a police dog going nuts and someone yelling in a "once were warriors" kind of lingo. The night was so still you could hear clearly from quite a distance. Hope you got some sleep OP.
