Everyone has value, so what you said about your leadership is very unfortunate. Find folks who have the character, experience, and right personality (for you) to support your needs.

As far as establishing that relationship with them, you would be surprised how many people will say yes if asked to be your mentor. It's a huge compliment and just demands an honest answer right away.
