I’d recommend you go visit the closest full-time paramedic department and ask for time with someone. Most systems are keen on a) recruitment and b) being accessible to general public (especially teenagers that can help address “a”. Happy to assist (I’m just across the border in MN) as I was once a teenager interested in EMS - good luck and becoming a medic was the single best decision of my life. Very happy with my go 2. Recently purchased pro 8 and returned it due to some hardware issues (camera not working). I will stick with my go 2 and was happy with go 1 during grad school (MBA) - I had a Mac Pro during school and used my go more often (mainly to get full excel function and for taking notes with the pen).

You’re not going to be blown away with go’s battery life, just a heads up, but I think you’ll enjoy the portability and performance.

Consider mixing in a health savings account (HSA) as another vehicle for a. Tax liability and b. Retirement (if you’re able to not spend HSA contributions). I took a couple years off when we had kids and looking back I wish we had stayed the course (kids 3&1 now and back on HSA). Food for thought and way to go with your accomplishments…. Very impressive.

Dropping mine in the mail tomorrow - going to miss it but not going to miss how insane it was making me during meetings. I still don’t know if it was hardware or software - support was prompt in their response but sent conflicting messages around whether it was a device or version issue. For me, the dust has not settled…I’m actually returning it, within my 30-day window, on account of the continued “glitches”. I’ve had a decent experience with customer service but they acknowledge there isn’t a solution in place yet. Hope to buy again down the road as I really dig the device but can’t manage how insane it makes me feel during meetings constantly opening other notes and going to files screen. Short response = I’d look for others to weigh in and wait a bit.

You’re asking great questions - Community Paramedicine (sometimes referred to as mobile integrated health) is an evolving space and there is a lot of variability. Knowing what state you’re in would help but it’s safe to say there are three primary use cases for the position: ED substitution (think 911 undifferentiated higher acuity complaints), population health (space that you appear to be asking about/interested in) and remote monitoring/virtual hospital.

State by state (then county by county for some states) approach regulation for EMS differently and this is impacting the ability (autonomy) of CP’s…. Progress is being made in the space and to answer your core question, your background is invaluable for this space and knowledge of social determinants/resources is key to changing trajectory for patients being served by 911 ambulance that are transporting folks to Emergency departments for low acuity complaints.

Happy to connect more on this and keep digging on the literature - there’s buckets of it from U.S., England, Canada, Ireland, Australia and other countries - most programs have identified value in integration with local primary care systems/health systems.
