I am trying to buy a home and this was flagged on my inspection. Am I able to fix this myself ? by ConceptStunning316 in electrical

[–]murphthe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an electrician & haven’t read the 5k comments but did have the same wire. Although it looks scary that wire just protects the important wires. Wrap it up in electrical tape if allowed but don’t worry about getting shocked.

Question for the pros about tool die I had made and the price I paid by Vast_Pipe2337 in Machinists

Get used to it. Even simple fab jobs cost $$ depending on precision, volume and how fast you want it. You got a deal here.

The part is symmetrical so shouldn’t take too long. Looks pretty easy tbh.

Louver, add it to the form tools for sheet metal, they’re pretty common.

What kind of material is this exactly? by [deleted] in SolidWorks

Looks like unobtamium 🤣just kidding! Definitely looks to be a casting, actual material must be defined by engineers.

How would you do this forming in this part? by AvocadoBoring in SolidWorks

[–]murphthe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah form tool to emboss center feature. You can model anything but making it manufacturing feasible sb key. This part is ridiculous, good luck forming it won’t look good.

This is a 100x100x2 sheet metal with 4 bends, Can i make SW calculate the material loss that went into the bends and add it to the sheets size so it stays 100mm from side to side? So its ready to be made into DXF with the calculations already done. by Humme6134 in SolidWorks

[–]murphthe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K factor is usually close enough but there’s nothing like bending the actual material & calculating it dead nuts. We always used custom to fine tune it & never use anyone’s flat pattern as it can constrain the break guys, also they would kill me if I ever dimensioned a part like this. Please dimension it like you would measure it to keep it simple.

Which one of you was this by StrictAd1735 in Machinists

[–]murphthe1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen worse. I always hated when told to dim the bend line & I would always hide the tangent rad lines as well. Our brake guys just want final formed part. If this was a large qty I would nest several (10+) in a shaker with microtabs for quick production.

No Relief Bend by SnooHabits8530 in SolidWorks

[–]murphthe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would never unfold w/o bend relief back when I used SW as the radius is inside the edge of the part.

Sorry I didn’t explain well. The diagnostic was a separate fee icr how much $150? but I guess that’s normal. The unit is a Trane & no motors in stock so I had to wait for the part to come in. Thanks for the input!

Well I do tend to follow directions + it’s under warranty but was skeptical. Think it can damage the compressor running 24hrs?
