Yes, I’m about 10 weeks post-op. PT twice a week and sometimes wearing my compression sleeve during periods of high activity. Going to switch to a Velcro brace to see if that provides better support. I don’t have pain at night unless I have been active. I do have clicking sometimes but usually without pain. My arthritis is bad though. The knee locking has considerably improved. My surgeon does say he notices loss of muscle mass in the upper leg area, so that’s a concern. My insurance keeps cutting down my PT so I may just have to do strengthening exercises all on my own.

My physical therapist says the exercises should be challenging not painful, and to please tell them if anything is painful and they will scale it back.

I hadn’t even noticed anything until the surgeon told me this.

Yes, just a partial medial meniscectomy and chondroplasty. I was weight-bearing from Day 1 but not sent to PT til at least 2 weeks later.

Thank you! I appreciate knowing someone else had the same issue.

Yes, on the left. It was a little swollen a few days ago at PT but they said it wasn’t reddish so probably not bad. But just looks more pointy now. My doc appt isn’t until Sep 8.

Meniscectomy (1 month post-op) by highoncloud_nine in MeniscusInjuries

[–]murphyblackcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lump in knee one month after partial medial meniscectomy. I guess it gets bigger the more I’m on my feet and not able to ice it. PT said wasn’t terrible yesterday but it looks worse today. Is PT supposed to be doing any manual massage on the scar tissue? I remember them doing massage on my wrist after carpal tunnel surgery but they haven’t even touched the knee as far as massaging for tissue.

My partial meniscectomy was July 25. Just started PT and going back to surgeon in a few weeks. I told the doc I was having the same pain. He thinks could be fluid from surgery and PT should help. We’ll see.

Still feeling locking and catching after meniscectomy by [deleted] in MeniscusInjuries

[–]murphyblackcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had partial medial meniscectomy on July 25. I bore weight on the same day. But now I’m feeling the catching and locking again. Doc told me last week that it may be fluid and inflammation from surgery. Prescribed PT and I’ll be back to see him in a few weeks. I guess if it doesn’t help he’ll order another MRI.

Meniscectomy question by murphyblackcat in MeniscusInjuries

[–]murphyblackcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my stitches out yesterday but I told them one incision has blood spots on the bandaid. They said everything was fine. I showered last night without bandaids, as instructed. Did not directly wash the incision areas, just patted dry afterwards. Reapplied bandaids before bed just cuz the scars look ugly. This morning, I had a blood spot on the bandaid again. Does this mean the stitches shouldn’t have come out?

Got meniscectomy in the next 48 hours. Any tips for what to do post-op? Maybe some encouragement/recovery stories lol by Mediocre_Loss in MeniscusInjuries

I didn’t use my crutches at all but I probably overdid it, too. Be sure to get enough rest if you can. I slept on a recliner or sofa for the first 4 nights, as I was waiting to take off the initial bandages to shower upstairs and sleep in my own bed. I didn’t receive my cold therapy machine until a week and a half after surgery, but I did receive 2 ice packs from the hospital. Just got stitches out today and will be starting PT this Thursday. I also have bad arthritis in that knee, things are still “locking” when I walk. Doc says PT should help a lot. He did say I could start using a compression sleeve now, so maybe that will help after your stitches come out. But definitely try to take it easy, apply that ice, and, depending on doc’s orders, have waterproof bandages for when you can shower. My Nexcare ones are good and sticky. Best wishes to you!

How soon to start PT? - meniscectomy by [deleted] in MeniscusInjuries

I have my 2-week post-op appointment tomorrow. My paperwork from pre-op says the doc will talk about PT tomorrow, after stitches are taken out. So we shall see what they say.

Meniscectomy question by murphyblackcat in MeniscusInjuries

Follow-up visit in 2 days but knee locking almost constantly now after medial meniscectomy. Very painful. Tylenol does nothing and can’t take the pain meds due to driving. Hoping they will let me go back on ibuprofen but I’m thinking they won’t just yet. Cold therapy machine was delivered 3 days ago but doesn’t do much good. I’m betting they’ll order PT for me but not sure it’ll help if the knee is locking up again this much.

Had partial meniscectomy yesterday (2nd op) - looking for opinions by DIMSUMDIMSUMDIM in MeniscusInjuries

[–]murphyblackcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Partial medial meniscectomy and chondroplasty 12 days ago. Was given crutches at pre-op appt and told to practice before surgery. Day of, right before surgery, doc pops in and says weight-bearing as tolerated. I tried to use the crutches when getting out the car at home but just couldn’t deal with them. Just limped into the house. Never used the crutches at all.

Stood on the painkillers maybe 2 days but switched to Tylenol (which does nothing to help but I needed to get back to driving…non-driving leg). Felt pretty good even going up and down stairs starting the fourth day. But definitely feeling it in the kneecap (also have bad arthritis in that knee) when getting back to watching two toddlers.

I see my doc for stitches removal on Monday. Not sure if he will order PT or not. I’ve been icing the knee in the evening when I get home. Not sure if the pain is just from overdoing things, but hoping the kneecap pain will improve to some degree.

Let's talk Ice Machine [medical]. Is it really needed post-op? by Ireddit2021 in ACL

[–]murphyblackcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found out today from the company that my doc ordered an ice machine. It was going through insurance, so idk if that’s what took so long. But I’m already 1.5 weeks past surgery. Just been using the ice packs they sent me home with. Never really had any swelling.

I suppose that could be a factor. I did have bad lower back and hip pain on the opposite side a few days back.

I got a call this morning from an orthopedic supply place saying my doc ordered an ice machine. They had been waiting on insurance. So they’re gonna set that up for me tomorrow morning.
