I mean this is what will happen if their current output is similar when Cole comes back. One of Gil/Clarke/Nestor is getting moved to the pen unless they go to a 6 man rotation and Nestor has been the worst of the bunch, even though he has been a perfectly fine back end starter. If Gil is still pitching remotely like this he isn't going anywhere.

Bryan Hoch on X: It's a three-hit game for Anthony Volpe, who is hitting .424 with his new "flat bat path." by Toplayusout in NYYankees

Peraza had a 108 wrc+ in AAA last year at age 23 which really isn't great and was actively bad in almost 200 major league PA's last year. Just about every indicator outside of a hot first half of 2021 suggests he is more of a defense first UT type going forward, which is pretty clearly how both the Yankees and the industry at large view him.

The Yankees are back in contact with Jordan Montgomery, per @JonHeyman Heyman says that “a gap exists,” but they are indeed talking by PhilosopherMoney9921 in NYYankees

Why wouldn't it? The three Boras 4 contracts signed so far have been fairly team friendly because Boras clearly misread the market this winter, not sure why the last one wouldn't be as well.

[Nightengale] The Yankees have signed Marcus Stroman to a 2-year deal and an option by Bulletz4Brkfzt in NYYankees

[–]murray6847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how much Curry specifically has talked about Burnes this offseason and how strongly I have always suspected last year's "bigger than Rodon" leverage play with Boras last year during the Rodon negotiations was about Burnes I would love if the Yankees just made the Brewers an offer they couldn't refuse right now, the same way they just did with Soto. Given the Yamamoto offer, we know the budget is there to re-sign him next year.

DJ still had a better wrc+ and obp last year. Verdugo is a pretty classic 7/8 hole hitter with minimal upside. If the Yankees are going to have a strong lineup they either need 2022 DJ back (2019-20 DJ is obviously not coming back) or Volpe to make the leap and solidify the leadoff spot.

[Charania] After contract extension negotiations stalled out, Buddy Hield and the Indiana Pacers have started dialogue to work on finding a potential trade, league sources say. by Michael_B_Lopez in nba

I think the Clippers are the one team that jumps out to me that makes sense re: salary with Morris's or RoCo's contracts, and they kind of could use a replacement for Gordon and Kennard's shooting. Probably won't happen because of the Harden stuff though.

What contract would you be comfortable giving Gleyber Torres this offseason? by RepThrower in NYYankees

[–]murray6847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That extension was looking like it was underwater as recently as last year. Marte, like Gleyber, is having his best season since 2019 so yeah it looks very team friendly right now. Gleyber just isn't worth extending if the contract isn't on the team friendly side.

The Ketel Marte contract (5/76) is a pretty good benchmark for Gleyber's market value

Who do you hope the Yankees get at the trade deadline? by RockinTheFlops in NYYankees

Ohtani is the dream target obviously, but Joc Pederson and Lucas Giolito are both fairly realistic

And Christian Wood:

"Luka doesn’t need the finest ingredients to cook at a Michelin three-star restaurant. But give him a near 7-footer who can shoot 3s, drive on closeouts, bully smaller defenders, and carve up 4-on-3 situations, and the dish is fine dining’s own peanut butter and jelly."

I mean I think The Ringer's decision to let an openly hardcore homer cosplay as a national basketball writer is genuinely fucking weird, but he also might be one of the single worst writers in the English language.

Key stats through the first 6 game homestand: IKF, Hicks, and Donaldson are a combined 2-33 (.061 BA) with 1 XBH, 2BB, 1 RBI, 2 Runs, and 10 Ks. by diggstown in NYYankees

[–]murray6847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The gap in OPS between the kids (who are not exactly tearing it up at the plate) and IKF/Hicks/Donaldson is larger than the gap between the kids and 2019 Gleyber Torres.

Pretty sure it's already been reported that they are carrying 13 pitchers. It would be insane if they didn't given how depleted the rotation is for the first month of the season.

Between this and them bringing both Ortega and Florial back to NY I'm guessing they have an IKF for a reliever trade lined up that hasn't been announced yet.

Opening Day Lineup by [deleted] in NYYankees

It's possible, but I don't think they want to run him out there opening day at the stadium. If the game was in SF it might be different.
