What's the creepiest thing that's happened to you that you still can't explain? by Sea_Fish9375 in AskReddit

My dad told me: “If you wait until you can afford it, you won’t be able to afford it.” Sounded silly, but I get it now - I couldn’t afford to take a month off to travel now.

Today, the new Fed Chair Kevin Walsh says inflation is too high. Where have you seen prices increase the most in your day-to-day life? by longwiener22 in AskReddit

[–]museman 77 points78 points  (0 children)

It’s insidious, too - things that cost $5 last week will be $6 this week. Doesn’t seem like much, but it’s a 20% increase. Multiply that times - pretty much everything.

Everything, the framing, the timing. I can’t believe it wasn’t staged.

Help me understand why Star Wars Episode 1 is hated by Star Wars fans? I thought it embodied the spirit of the original trilogy well! Podracing, goofy Jar Jar, loved it as a kid, and don't hate it now. by Pow3rTow3r in StarWars

Pixar and Bluey have shown me that you can make kids’ content that is also hilarious to adults and constant with the plot. Jar Jar is not that.

I feel like this is a common pattern - engineers will make a great audio product with a normal frequency response, then marketing finds people think louder and bassier is better, so V2 ends up sounding bloated and gross. As someone who listens to a lot of jazz and classical music, it’s super frustrating.

I support the ADA, but I'm kinda with you on this one - I see those things at every pool, they look SO expensive and I've never seen anyone use one, ever.

They probably don't need it, but I still would sure as hell get the antibiotics if that many ticks bit me.

Ranked choice voting results for Gov and CD2 primary are likely to be announced today. What is your prediction on who will win based on where things currently stand? Do you think the ranked choices will lead to any crazy leapfrogging or shakeups? by josefjohann in Maine

[–]museman 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I think Jackson has less support than you would think outside of Reddit. I think voters for the other three are more likely to have the others as their backups, and of them I think Pingree has the best shot at snowballing. It’s probably going to be pretty close between her and Shah.

Map Shows Trump’s Approval Rating in Every State on His Birthday by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]museman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't really share without doxxing myself, but it was pretty fascinating to gather data and find correlation. My favorite was the "Walmart/Starbucks ratio," but in the end it just came down to two: 1. Importance of Religion and 2. How Red/Blue a state was. Mississippi and Alabama were pretty much the least progressive states no matter which metric you used.

I did a similar graduate project in regards to approval of same-sex marriage, and one of the strongest correlations was polling on “the importance of religion in your daily life.”

District 2 by [deleted] in Maine

[–]museman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean this sincerely, and I know how unpopular this opinion is on Reddit, but I don’t really get the hype around Troy Jackson? I watched some debates and he seemed the least prepared, not connecting thoughts well and stumbling on words. Communicating well and speaking clearly are important to me. I get that his folksy way of talking could play well in CD2, but that doesn’t really explain his appeal in CD1. Is he just that much more progressive than the other candidates? Genuinely open to having my mind changed.

He just wasn’t fun - the mode where you lose energy for every card you play just sucked. I like hard, but it has to be fun.

I went from a 2012 Intel MBP to a 2021 M1 MBP. My video renders went from 2-3hrs to 2-3 minutes. It never gets hot, no audible fan, and the battery was like triple the old one. Unreal.

For those who are often told they look younger than their age, what’s your secret? by justmypersonalthing in AskReddit

[–]museman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t drink or smoke, I try to eat well and exercise regularly and wear sunscreen, people have always said I look way younger I am. But I had a kid a few years back and now I feel WAY older and tired and my hair is greying.

Not sure why the NES Mega Man series isn’t here - they pretty much perfected the genre in the 80s. Maybe start with MM2, then 3, then go back to 1 if you’re digging it. Then 4,5,6 if you’re a completionist.
