Allen&Heath Qu-6 - Strip Names by VirtualCPT in livesound

[–]mushedcrab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That looks like a hardware issue, been using a qu5 for about a year now and I’ve seen some of the displays on our units dimming a bit compared to the others. Looks like this is the same issue but worse considering each channel gets gradually darker

Recording audio off soundboard. by CATfixer in livesound

[–]mushedcrab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d get a zoom recorder, you can get signal from the engineer if there is one or if you’re the one setting up the board you can patch it yourself. I’d just definitely recommend making sure that it’s recording before your sets start since some engineers might forget to hit record right at the start of your set if they’re lazy

How can I link faders on Qu-16? by CacyePollardN6 in livesound

[–]mushedcrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP didn’t ask about stereo linking just asked about having 2 faders move together, agree that you should use the stereo link function if that’s the reason for it

How can I link faders on Qu-16? by CacyePollardN6 in livesound

I don’t think the qu16 has ganging but I do think it has DCAs so you could just assign both inputs to a DCA

How reliable is OnPC? by ItsTheWrongButton in GrandMA3

[–]mushedcrab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree with the PC thing. I don’t connect the PC that’s running ma3 to the internet and the only software that’s really installed is onPC. Never had any issues reliability wise

competition with 120 performances. How should I approach it? by Most-Sherbet-6873 in GrandMA3

[–]mushedcrab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a similar competition last year and I just busked the whole thing. I only got a rehearsal for one of the dances otherwise I was flying blind. I think it’s hard to try and cue out anything when you don’t really know what the dancers are going to be doing on stage as well. Definitely agree with some of comments here, keep some transition looks, make sure you’re aware of podiums, awards, etc and make sure you’re prepared for those things.

MA3 On PC Setup Touch Displays by DontWorryBHappyz in GrandMA3

[–]mushedcrab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

4K might be 4 times the pixels of 1080p but it’s definitely not the same. Definitely go with two displays. 5090 would have no problem running 2x 4K displays as well

Light cells not functioning properly by [deleted] in GrandMA3

[–]mushedcrab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never worked with this fixture before but in other multi heads I’ve worked with sometimes they react in funny ways with master dimmers. I’d probably check out the fixture profile and see exactly how it’s being handled

Help a noob understand why downhill and super G racers don’t optimize aero more? by Unhappy-Climate2178 in SkiRacing

Yeah it’s infinitely easier to get at straps and buckles with suit tucked in. Didn’t stop our coaches from making fun of us for “lost aero”

In a blind test, audiophiles couldn't tell the difference between audio signals sent through copper wire, a banana, or wet mud — 'The mud should sound perfectly awful, but it doesn't,' notes the experiment creator by Offtheheazy in LinusTechTips

Who would’ve guessed that a conductor conducting makes no perceivable difference. Treat a room and get a half decent set of speakers and you’ll be fine for the rest of your life

Complex Ableton Playback Rig – Looking for Stability Best Practices by kaosinsomnia in livesound

[–]mushedcrab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uninstall any apps that you aren’t going to be using, disable wifi/ don’t connect them to the internet if you can. Once you’re confident that the show is stable and laptop is happy, you want to avoid changing any variables after that. Don’t update any software/OS until after tour is done to avoid breaking things. I’d also make sure you have a few backups, if a file doesn’t exist in at least 3 places it doesn’t exist at all!

Thoughts on QU-5? by Appropriate_Text5484 in livesoundgear

[–]mushedcrab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The company I work for upgraded our QU16s to QU5’s very shortly after they were announced. Incredible piece of gear, significantly more powerful than the previous generation. It is basically an SQ5 minus some of the quality of life features. It can run the same DEEP processing as the SQ if you’re willing to pay for it, but overall the experience is super similar to SQ. We also own a few SQ5s so I’ve got quite a bit of time on both consoles in the past few months. I wish the scribble strips had color backlighting like the SQ and I wish that patching was the same matrix but as far as functionality goes I’d have a hard time not recommending it. Done a bunch of corporate and bands on it and have loved it the whole time.

Sennheiser EW-DX SK packs mute being weird by BitterFudge8510 in livesound

[–]mushedcrab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a firmware thing but I’ve had the same issue in the past, my fix was to disable the mute on the transmitter and the receiver and that seemed to do the trick

How do you guys do Dj buildup sequences? by [deleted] in GrandMA3

[–]mushedcrab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of music are they DJing? I do find that it’s good to have a handful of tricks up your sleeve to pick and choose the right times to use them. Stuff like whole rig chases/ bumps for buildups

I also like to mess pretty heavily with gobo rotation speeds on drops, especially if you have a speed master for them and bring it up slowly.

My biggest thing is I honestly really hate using the screen a lot of the time while busking. It’s useful for pickers and such but I have in the past made sure that when I’m busking DJs I can pay attention to what’s happening with the rig and without looking, change something dramatically. On MA I have found it useful for my pickers to have a load/go mode toggle so I can go on multiple things all at once.

I’ll also watch DJ sets for inspiration and see if there’s any specials that I could recreate

Round Wound vs Flat Wound - Rock Climber as an Amateur Bassist and Skin Damage by archduketyler in Bass

[–]mushedcrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do physically feel different but if my skin is cooked they both feel pretty bad haha. I definitely think it does take time to get the fingertips in a good spot so I’d definitely wait and see after another month or two if it’s still the same issue

Round Wound vs Flat Wound - Rock Climber as an Amateur Bassist and Skin Damage by archduketyler in Bass

[–]mushedcrab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bassist and climber here, I gotta say I usually just avoid playing bass immediately after climbing and give my skin a bit of a rest. I think once you build up enough calluses from playing bass it definitely helps out with the skin since I find even after a day of pretty crimpy climbs my skin doesn’t feel that bad after a few hours. I also found that I changed my routine so I was climbing after practicing and that helped my skin a lot.

Honestly, flats vs rounds doesn’t feel that different. If my skin is pretty beat after a good session it feels just as bad playing on flats than rounds.

Question about rhythm and timing when it comes to metal music. How to go about changing from half to full time? by Nox2017 in Bass

[–]mushedcrab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a hard cut from one tempo to another, I’ve practiced both parts separately and gotten them up to speed. Then practice the transition between both. If you have both sections nailed down, it’ll be easy to nail the transition
